Very well put, Scott. Agreed word for word.

Edit: Speaking of Ivanovic:

Looking at that it was as if Brannas backside took a bite out of mateys arm

4-4-2 eh?

Never thought I would see the day we played that again!

Captain, Leader, Legend! Always love when JT scores, he's been immense this season and it was fitting he was the one to drag us back into the lead.

Ramires continues to impress, such a hard working midfielder. Also, I know Essien had a massive brain fart for their goal and the dive was more than a little shameful but I thought he looked okay in the middle considering the lack of football and was often winning possession and spreading the play with some neat passing.

I've not been the biggest fan of Ba's since he arrived in January but his introduction at half time helped to pin Southampton back into their own half and he caused them all sorts of problems when he came on and both he and Torres deserve a lot of praise for their performances.

Such an enjoyable Sunday afternoon...I was glad they scored early, it made for an interesting game.

Did anybody else notice when they kicked off after our first goal that we chased them into the ground from the off? Made me laugh!

It's what we've failed to do so often. The ManUs and the Barcas don't give you an inch for the whole 90 minutes, well, not this ManU side maybe :-) That jumping wall of theirs made ME laugh!

Must admit I was worried at half-time. Southampton looked comfortable and also looked dangerous on the break and we just couldn't seem to make inroads. Doesn't help when none of our midfield are able to make that killer pass or in fact any pass at all!

But what an improvement second half. Well done Jose for making the changes and we just got stronger & stronger and really knocked Saints out of their stride. Did start worrying again when he put mikel on late on and it looked like were we going to try and see out a narrow 2-1 - always dangerous IMO, especially when we were all over them at that stage. But thanks to Ramires and Ba for a timely third and killing the game off.

With Arsenal and City looking good, that was a massive win today and now we just need to go on a nice little run - up to about May would suit me!
I didn't think Soton looked all that comfortable.  We had a few decent chances in the first half.  They were very competitive and made it very hard to play but they were surprisingly toothless on the break.  normally, I'm quite worried when we start pushing on,  but I didn't see anything from them to get very worried about. The switch in the second half was classic Jose.  I remember us stuffing Bayern 4-2 in the CL in just the same way.  Couldn't get a hold in midfield so we just kicked it straight over the top and Drogba killed them.  Yesterday it was Torres and Ba.  Loved that we gave them a taste of their own medicine.  All these teams that come to just harry, hassle and stop us playing - let's see how they cope when we do it to them.  Not very well apparently :)

Great win.  Have to follow it up now with two away wins.

Half time commentators comment (can't remember which stream I was watching):

"Jose has stormed off to the dressing room early - to get the hairdryer warmed up)"

Cahill (very loosely):

"The manager held a calming team talk telling us to forget what had happened in the first half and focus on the second".

Commentators and pundits - how do they get these jobs? How are they allowed to spout such twaddle?

Feel bad for Essien, specially considering its his birthday today. I actually think he's looked pretty decent every time he's played this season.

Essien didn't do too badly at all.

Where I feel he really let himself down was not getting stuck into tackles as much as he should have done. There were a few moments where he shyed away from making a forceful challenge. Maybe that's what happens after you suffered from a long injury so I don't blame him. It was also his first PL game back for a long time.

He made some nice passes and kept possession well. A few more games under his belt and I think he'll do a great job for us.

Excellent win against a quality side and very happy with the manner of the victory overall. Mourinho's response to recent criticism was emphatic and he's silenced many of his critics.

The first goal of the game to Southampton was a matter of luck as Michael Essien gifted them an easy goal inside the first 13 seconds, but I don't blame him even though the mistake was deplorable. Michael's barely had any playing time this season and it was unexpected that he even started this match to start off so it's understandable that he would be rusty with the ball and the pace of the game in general.

Apart from that early lapse of concentration we controlled the tempo of the game well and it always looked like we were going to score sooner rather than later after we conceded. It was very impressive to see us score three goals against a side that had only conceded seven goals prior to this game and some of the goals they had conceded occurred under unusual circumstances. In some ways conceding the early goal was almost like a blessing in disguise for us as it prompted us to attack more rather than sit back and hopefully wait for someone to make a mistake from Southampton.

I was very pleased to see Jose play Juan Mata for the whole game and Mata didn't disappoint one bit. He tracked back well, he was creative when he was attacking and his slick passes and corners just reminded us why he should be playing in the first team much more frequently than he has in recent times. Oscar is now out for the Sunderland match so I think Mata will be a certain starter for that mid-week match again so hopefully he can back himself up with another good performance on Wednesday night.

For over the 90 minute timeframe of the match, I thought we had control for about 80 minutes of it which was really positive considering Southampton had been excellent in controlling the tempo of the game this season in other games so far.

Playing the 4-4-2 formation really did wonders for the club and it made our strikers look really sharp up front. Torres was making good runs, chasing the ball effectively and he was taking players on which was great to watch. The only thing he needs to work on is his conversion in front of goal. It was also a really positive performance by Demba Ba against Southampton and a nice goal to finish off the game in the end. The 4-4-2 formation suited Ba very well and he looked sharp alongside Fernando Torres. I wouldn't mind Jose opting to play the 4-4-2 formation again against Sunderland with Torres and Ba up front.

Overall this is a great result for the club and we're only four points behind Arsenal. There's still plenty of time to win the title this season so don't ever lose faith in Jose! Looking forward to the Sunderland game now

By the way congratulations to John Terry on reaching 400 EPL appearances for Chelsea and capping off this game with a trademark header!!

I must have had the same commentary team, it was a joke.

Commentators know about as much as the Southampton fans who were singing "you're not special anymore" to Jose after 2 minutes.

GIven the noise from Mourinho, i'd like to see this now:

Cech

Bertrand

Terry

Cahill

Azpilcueta

Mikel

De Bruyne

Shurrle

Mata

Willian

Torres

Subs: Schwarzer, Ivanovic, Ramires, Lampard, Ba, Hazard, Kalas
