Expect Trev to be sold, and Disasi, Badiashile, Tosin aren’t really good enough. Doubts over Colwill also, and Fofana can’t stay fit. Time to retool the CBs

Because I am almost certain that Acheampong would have similar stats if given the same mins.

It's nothing personal against him, in another world where we are full of experienced CB's I would take him but right now there's no need for him.

Huijsen is on another level talent wise; he is the future of the Spanish national team along with Cubarsi. Spain don’t do bad CBs, and I can’t remember the last average Spanish CB to play in the PL. He already has 2 Spanish caps which is nothing to be sniffed at when you consider their depth of CBs.

He isn’t your average CB talent and was getting regular games on loan at 18yrs old at Roma

I am not doubting his talent but it's clear he still needs guidance from an experienced CB as he still makes mistakes. It's not like a Cubarsi that's a freak and perfect. If it was that level of talent I wouldn't say anything.

In another world that Acheampong moves to Madrid instead of signing a new deal, he would be starting for them now at 18 and we would be lamenting the fact that we let him go.

Huijsen plays left hand side, Acheampong right hand side. It's Colwill he's in direct competition with and not only is he better than Colwill, but Colwill has pure profit saleability

 
We need competition for Colwill and Huijsen looks more than capable. There needs to be a much smaller drop off from our first and second choice CB’s. It would allow us to take a player out for a couple of games for form.

Colwill has generally played in most of the big games because we don’t have real competition for his place. There’s no reason why they couldn’t play together either. Loads of great CB pairings have one of them playing on the wrong side as it were.

To be fair we were after him but couldn’t guarantee him game time which he was after which Bournemouth could.

What I find puzzling is we tried getting ahead of the market in Jan by trying to activate his release clause, but Bournemouth said that was only active in June 2025. Why didn’t we either allow Bournemouth to sign Kepa at a discounted fee in Jan, or pay an extra couple of £millions to get it done then. We then doubled down on the craziness by signing Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg in Jan who we intend to loan back to Strasbourg next season.

 
He's just turned 20 this month... I was afraid we'd go this route of prioritising signing young players for yet another transfer window w/o adding any balance to the squad... The board probably think of an NBA kind of rebuild where they expect the whole squad to peak at the same time, 5-6 years after being assembled. The thing is that you can easily do that in a country where fans are not that passionate and view sports more as a recreational activity, rather than a big and important part of life, as many do in Europe.

Not sure that is the goal.If you sign a 20 years old and give him 7 years contract, in 5 years you can still can get a good value for him. If you sign a 26 year old, in 5 years, his value will be very low.

 
If we can get this over the line it’s a no brainer.

Already a Top 5 PL CB and strengthens the weakest part of our current defence.

It’s one of those transfers where instead of moaning about his age we should be praising it.

Colwill is our weakest starter in that defence (GK aside), physically and mentally he’s too weak. Huijsen is an upgrade in every aspect.

 
I'm too excited about this signing to post in this thread. There's no way we get it over the line, it makes too much sense.

Yes please, an improvement on what we have, we have demonstrated the ability to outbid our rivals for lesser prospects than this. Hope we get it done- even at a relatively high price, if need be.
