Not often you say this but I think the FA have just about got it right

(appeals pending for Mikel and Adebayor)

[BLUENUT]

Adebayor has no chance really, he is seen hitting someone on the replays I've seen, although his faliure to leave the field is another matter.

Mikel didn't do anything, if the challenge resulted in a yellow card then fair enough, but what are you supposed to do when someone grabs you around the throat? In a fair wolrd he'd have the redcard recinded but this is the FA, we're Chelsea and this was a showpiece final, so I doubt they'll reduce the red card although the video evidence shows they should!

'Dicipline' and 'Arsenal' have never been used in the same sentence since Wengers reign, well not without 'lack of' sandwiched in somewhere!

Both appeals rejected by FA -

Apparently Adebayor is allowed a personal hearing with the Disciplinary Commission.

Is that cos he only threw 4 punches, however, it wasn't him that hit Bridge

Bit of a joke that. Mikel did not a lot as we have all been saying. Am i right in thinking he will get an extended ban because its his 2nd red of the season ?

Jesus, why couldnt Ballack have got involved!

I agree, he charged in dishing out a couple of elbow blow to Carvalho before pretending he was breaking up the brawl.

I was surprised to see the game on last night on GolTV, and it was an ArsenalTV production.

I was shocked to hear the two Arsenal announcers (don't recall their names) virtually tear their players to shreds at the end of the game, calling them quitters and poor losers, and wishing that they would grow up. Basically, the entire fracas was blamed on the Arsenal 'poor sports'.

I was shocked to hear this talk from two Gooners, and I am appreciative of their honestly in laying blame exactly where it should have been placed.

Kudos to ArsenalTv, at least for that instance.

I would say that he tried to land a punch but missed, tried to kick someone but they rolled under his foot and when Lamps tried to hit Fabregas he got in the way

But like most games it just went on around him

Well, here's the full story on the official Chelsea site:

CHELSEA AND ARSENAL CHARGED OVER CARLING FINAL INCIDENTBoth finalists in Sunday's Carling Cup Final have been charged with misconduct by the FA this afternoon. There are no individual charges for Chelsea personnel but Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue and Emmanuel Adebayor face separate charges.

The appeal over Mikel John Obi's red card for violent conduct during the game has been rejected by the FA. He will now serve a four-match suspension covering the games against Portsmouth away, Spurs in the Cup, Man City away and Sheffield United at home. Adebayor also had an appeal over his red card rejected.

The FA statement on today's charges reads:

Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC have been charged with misconduct for an incident involving players and officials from both clubs towards the end of the Carling Cup Final on Sunday, 25 February. The charge alleges that the clubs failed to ensure that their "players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative and/or violent behaviour."

The clubs have until 14 March to respond. There are no individual charges against officials from either Arsenal or Chelsea.

Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue has been charged with violent conduct for striking Chelsea's Wayne Bridge. He has until 6pm tomorrow to respond, and the case will be heard by a Disciplinary Commission on Thursday on the basis of documents and video evidence.

His team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor has been charged with reacting aggressively and failing to leave the field of play immediately after being sent off. He has until 6pm tomorrow to respond to the charge and his case will be heard by a Disciplinary Commission on Tuesday 6 March. As this charge is outside the jurisdiction of the match officials (he had already been sent off), he has the right to a personal hearing.

Four match ban for Mikel.

And now, for something completely diferent:

Chelsea's title hopes threatened as Drogba and Essien face bans

Frame by frame: who did what in the m?l?e at the Millennium

I think he did try and get involved but by the time he got there it had all finished!

If all of the "frame by frame" is true then it seems almost everybody did something wrong

One comment that I really agree with is the description of Wenger:

"Comes on to the pitch, hesitates, wanders around, then becomes engaged in a vociferous argument with Steve Clarke, Chelsea's assistant manager."

That really was all he did.

He reacted because JM did and while JM went in to stop the fight Wenger simply held back and didn't dare to take any action.

Typical french attitude

i am yet to understand why fabregas and lampard didn't get sent off. is is because they are white? because they are better known players? is it because they are midfielders?

None of those things.

I think Mikel and Toure were sent off because the ref knew

a) someone was going to have to walk

he probably had to send off a player from each side

c) Mikel and Toure had been the two that the whole fracas started with

Adebayor was then only sent off on the basis of what the linesman said.

fair enough. it's also difficult to follow everything that's going on in such a crowded fight like this was. but the ref saw what frank and fabregas were doing, because he did give them yellow cards. i actually think, that of all the players, fabregas deserved the red card the most (possibly along with Toure) and i can't understand why he wasn't sent off.

[The Brit]

basically today's judgement by the fa on Mikel was the same as webb's on the day...someone had to pay for this melee and regardless of his lack of action in the bust-up, the fa couldn't be seen to be letting him off, particularly after going after arsenal players more heavily

[loz]

I think it is prtty much what Brit said plus the fact that the ref wouldn't want to send too many players off.

Someone had to walk and so the obvious candidates were the two that started it. However having sent them off, to then send off Lamps and Fabregas would have meant 4 players sent off in one go - very rare in football and something I suspect Webb was loathed to do because of the headlines and also because some quarters would have accused him of over reacting.

I can understand why Webb did what he did on the day. What I don;'t understand is how the FA have handled it.

So what does it means?? Will he be suspended??
