Emiliano Martinez

John Terry on Emiliano MartĂnez:

đź—Ł "We signed him for Aston Villa from Arsenal and he was unbelievable. The confidence he shows, the way he trains, the influence he had over the group of players, the mindset is incredible.

Someone who wants to win day in, day out, hates conceding goals in training, loves keeping clean sheets. Everything about this guy, trust me, is top, top, top.

So so excited to have him in the building. He's great with his feet, great shot stopper. What I love about him, probably the most, other than his penalty saves, has to be the way he commands the box, takes the ball at the highest point, constantly takes pressure off the defenders.

He is a really, really good signing for me and a great lad. What a keeper! What a player! And I am absolutely delighted to have this man in the building."

Bet he drops a couple of absolute clangers in the first couple of games. 🤣

I've forgotten what a world Class keeper looks like, looking forward to seeing his sh*thousery between the sticks. Hope he builds a good understanding with the back line.

Welcome to the madhouse Martinez.

Possibly only have to suffer Sanchez one last time today. Result!

Reckon he remembers that he should have been sent off for handling outside of the box in the 2020 FA Cup Final? (Anthony Taylor II: Refuge in Audacity). Obviously we true fans remember this and will never be able to accept him whole-heartedly as a result. I definitely didn't say the exact same thing about Fábregas.

Advantages over Sánchez:

  • Impenetrable self-belief even after having done something bone-headed
  • History of winning major trophies and then pretending they're his cock (never saw Leboeuf do this)
  • Massive bellend (hopefully in a Dennis Wise way and not in a 'singing on the coach' Fernández way... come to think of it, he was presumably on the same coach)
  • JT seems to rate him (but he also seems to rate the Restore Party, possibly connected to the previous point)
  • His actual Christian name appears to be 'Damian', which presumably means he's connected to the devil somehow, the private equity bods will very much enjoy that
  • Much more popular with the matchgoing fans despite probably offering a similar level of performance (also known as Burnham syndrome)
  • Supposed to be good at saving penalties or something? Hopefully better than our last 'penalty specialist', I get the shivers just thinking about him.

No need to suffer Sanchez anymore.

1 - Martinez was registered in time to play

2 - I'd rather have Penders

3 - Sanchez has apparently been told he can either leave or accept being 3rd choice

Basically worse or at best equal to Sánchez, but with a Shay Given twist to keep the fans happy. This truly is the Andy Burnham era.

Sorry, but this just twaddle

Great saves. The 2 goals he could barely do anything about it.

The last one could have been saved

It’s a strange to say considering that he conceded 3 goals but I was pleased with him overall.
I know what you mean, he couldn't do much about any of the goals and made some good saves.

Good at coming for crosses as well.

The defence will get better I feel, new system, some new players and the midfield protection will get better.

He is an upgrade on Sanchez and at ÂŁ7.5m it's a no brainer.

Can't really blame him for the first two goals. He probably hasn't trained with the team yet and has hardly trained since the world cup.

He'll get up to speed.

He didn’t sh*t his pants every time there was a back pass .. was decisive too..
