I don't want to tempt fate, but when was the last time a team won the (Senior) FA Cup and the FA Youth Cup in the same year?

Also well done to the youngsters, I've been touting our academy's quality to my friends but they never seem to agree.

Proof of the pudding and all that!

Does anyone have any news on Kaby? I read on another forum that the announcer had said something along the lines of:

"Can the parents of Kaby go immediately to the... <wherever they take injured players>, can the parents of Kaby go immediately to the...<wherever they take injured players> ".

That doesn't sound too good, let's hope it's not anything serious, the lad surely deserves better.

Marko Mitrovic 1-1

Connor Clifford 2-1

Got the goals from CFC chat and uploaded them on Youtube, quality is poor, but that's all I could find.

hahahah, either the quality is super poor or that is one of the weirdest tackles Ive seen! Regarding the one that lead to Cliffords screamer goal./

Ha no I remember that, thinking that it just must be some secret tackle they'd been working at on the training grounds.

great result for the club and what a goal to win it. Cant be too many clubs that have ever done the youth and senior fa cup double! Here's hoping the seniors do their part now.

What a goal from Conor Clifford. What a screamer.McEachran was out of this world aswell, absolutely sensational.
McEachran's close control and dribbling skills were astounding !!! Think Gascoigne vs Holland combined with Pat Nevin in his heyday, what an awesome prospect.

Well done to the kids. Great entertainment and I finally believe that Chelsea just might have a future that is partly created by our own Academy.

Well done lads. Congratulations! Hoping for more of the same in future.

He didn't look too good, did he, I thought he was seriously injured - hope to God I'm wrong. Drummy said afterwards that Kaby had gone to hospital with a back injury. Really hope he's OK, he's an excellent young player.

So pleased for the youngsters. They fully deserved the success with the great football they have played during the season.

This could be the best season in our clubs history and right now, the future looks very bright indeed.

As for Josh McEachran, well the lad was different gravy last night. Can't remember the last time I saw one player dominate a match to such an extent, let alone a 17 year old.

Exceptional.

I can't wait to see more of McEachran

I still haven't seen him in an actual game, but would love to see him play some first team next season based on the rave reviews he's got.

I know...I thought it was just a good tackle from him when I watched it on a stream, but I didn't notice anything weird about until I saw the youtube clip. I had to play that part over and over again to see what it is that he's doing and I'm still not sure if what I think I see is right. I even tried to press play and pause very quickly to see it frame by frame(well, as close to it as possible). To me it looks like he jumps in the air and as he lands on the ball, he flicks it away from the Villa player. Weird stuff. I'd love to see a better quality clip of that goal.

What a cracking cup run from the kids, although the final was tight they were so much better than any other team they faced it was untrue. Special mentions from last night go to, McEachran - I've not been one of his biggest fans this season but if he keeps playing like he did last night he really could be something special. Rohan Ince - he stepped in at the last minute and I thought he was immense last night.

That said all of the lads played their part all season.

Just a word of caution though, they're very young and people are calling for them to be played int he first team but it's important to remember that at this stage in their development most are not ready to play first team football - regardless of talent. It's right to involve them and maybe even have them on the bench when it's possible, but two weeks ago we were all asking for Gokhan to be involved in the first team he's now having a serious dip in form, so it's Josh we want in the first team. There's some excellent prospects in our youth set-up at the moment but be patient with them.

Well done lads, and well done to all the fans that turned up last night.

Don’t put such a dampener on things!!!

Of course you are right and I’m probably one of the worst culprits. But after this seasons Cup run, culminating with last night’s victory, it is hard not to get a bit carried away and very excited about the future. But you’re right, I keep imagining our first team a few seasons down the line and I go from seeing Stoch, Borini & Kakuta one week to Bruma, McEachran, Tore and Sala the next. But being realistic, probably only one or two will stay long term and have a future with us. Right now, we have some incredibly talented young players but of course with youth comes inconsistency. So Tore and Kakuta can go from looking world class in one match to like a fish out of water in another.

I guess there is a thin line which separates the truly world class players, who break into senior football at such a young age and then stay there – Rooney, Messi and Fabregas spring to mind. I hope we have one of those in our current crop and my fear is that if we continue to buy “big name†players, he might not get the chance.

Victory, confirmed by Conor Clifford's long-range shot, was harsh on Villa but will have prompted relief of sorts for Arnesen.
Harsh on Villa? HARSH? If Chelsea had not won that match, THAT would have been harsh. Did this guy even watch the match?

As for Arnesen...maybe he's not as useless as some people here on the forum make him out to be.

What’s next on the menu for Chelsea this season - more just desserts? That’s the starter over and done with and delicious it was too! Lots of young talent served up by Frank Arnesen, admittedly after a few years delay, but nevertheless well worth the wait. That said, for those sceptical scribes like the Indie’s Sam Wallace, who has always taunted us for our slow service, the FA Youth Cup will remain an irrelevance in any youth versus spending power argument, unless and until at least one Academy member comes through the ranks and establishes himself next season.

Taking this stark realism a stage further, if we are to be placatory towards the Press corps (as with Fifield, it‘s never been reciprocal, so why do we bother?) Jeffery Bruma had better be given a regular first team place sooner rather than later, being the one player to span both this year’s crop and the previous outfit that included the likes of Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Fabio Borini. The one name missing from Carlo’s [soon to be] Famous Five goes by the name of Matic, a youngster always treated as first team material, yet without so much as a taste of youth football whilst with us, and therefore his status in that particular group will always have more to do with his age and build rather than any long term development through the system.

Be that as it may, looking at last night’s performance before a big crowd and under pressure, Josh McEachran appears the next best bet to follow Bruma along the fast track and into first team contention. A quick look back at previous posts will reveal that I’ve not been overly impressed in the past and all credit to Nibs and Wicksy for seeing the potential that was so obvious to all last night. Coombsie got it right too when he likened McEachran to Gazza, an astute comparison in terms of their similarity in economy of effort when ghosting past players and I’d even go so far as to say that young Josh is the more languid of the pair.

Indeed, trying desperately to make up for my own lost ground praise-wise, let me add that, if this kid was emerging in the chess world, he’d be the regarded as the most spacially aware positional player of his generation. Unfortunately, the obvious problem he will have over the next few years is that, unlike on the chess board, you can have this type a ‘special talent’ knocked out of you on a football field and we can only hope, thinking back to Gazza’s rollercoaster stick-taking career, that McEachran turns out to be more Zidane-esque than daft as a brush. At the moment he is a spindly lad and I suppose what I’m really attempting to point out here is an important difference between the talents of, say, McEachran and Matic - Josh appears to have the potential to be the bigger star, but Nemanja is bigger by far.

I went to the final last night. I was very impressed with Bruma- he won every header (but should have scored that clear header in the first half!!!!!!!), and has a fantastic attitude which was clear from the off-set (he needs to be playing high level footie). Conor Clifford was also at the heart of the midfield, and was fantastic, and obviously scored that cracker to win it. I was getting a bit annoyed in the first half when he kept shooting; but now i kinda of see why lol (i was aware he scores alot of long distance goals before too)

However the guy that really impressed me was that Josh McEachran. I didn't know anything about this lad really before the game. Everyone of my mates go on about Gokhan Tore; but to me he is average and way over rated. He runs with the ball pretty well but is predictable(also he hasnt got the best figure has he?). Josh on the other hand is different class. This guy is clearly under-rated, as i never hear of him ever. He did some stuff by the corner flag that not many world class players could do imo.

The thing is, he goes un-noticed compared to Gokhan Tore because he flows with the game(how i used to play, so i KNOW it goes un-noticed most of the time) Gokhan on the other hand is not talented enough to do that; he has to change things to make things happen.( i.e use his pace/brute force or a million step overs, and get lucky ultimately)

More players like Josh need to be spotted at early ages, and with the right guidance(good academy upbringing) will certainly yield decent crop  I dont get why you barely ever see these types of players but certainly lots of the Gokhan tore's, who are often good at youth but will ultimately wither when they are up against the best, and never have consistent form. There are a million Gokhan Tore's out there.

I have real high hopes for this Josh. He is only 17 i think, and quite frankly he is superb for that

age.He is almost scarily good imo, and perhaps will be one day, and turn into a 'GREAT' player.

I'd really love if someone (Gilvorak?) could put together a video of this, especially Josh's performance! I only caught some of the game but he looked outstanding, effortlessly taking the ball past players and some really nice passes too. Great vision, fantastic technique and impressive confidence from someone of that age.
