If they had kept the European Cup Winners Cup around they wouldn't have needed the Europa Conference League. I think there were just too many teams to accommodate in the Europa League.Good for Jose and Tammy to win a cup, although I still dont get the point of that cup, for those who aren't good enough to make it the knockout rounds of the Europa league?
I'm usually one for saying a trophy is a trophy, but I don't feel anything for the Conference League. All I see is a competition that rewards mediocrity. If Roma haven't won anything for 10 years, it's because they haven't been good enough. This season, they haven't been good enough again, but they (and many other clubs) have been given an opportunity to win a trophy for being failures at the highest level. It devalues what it means to win a competition in my opinion.Yes but also it's just another cup for lower level teams to strive to win. In England we have all kinds of trophies and vases below the FA Cup, it's good that there is more than the paltry 2 cups for the whole of Europe to compete for.
Roma haven't won a trophy for well over 10 years and they are full of joy tonight, it's a good thing for football.
great signingDiego Carlos has signed for Aston Villa, interesting signing.
It's a chance for the midtable teams or clubs that haven't won in years to compete for something on their level, in theory it sounds great but of course there are problems with it.I'm usually one for saying a trophy is a trophy, but I don't feel anything for the Conference League. I also see people are now praising Mourinho for being the first to win the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, but all this proves to me is how far he has fallen as a coach. A coach that was once mocking teams for playing in the Europa League is now kissing a trophy that rewards teams for being a bit sh*t.
I may have been able to accept a competition like this in the 90's to late 2000's, back when there was high quality players spread out all over Europe, but not today, not when the gap is so big.
Were I can broadly understand your point, football has changed rapidly in the last 20 years in favour of the richer clubs. Presently we’re in the close season but even now before any additions to squads are made, we all can name the clubs who will finish in the European qualifying places bar the very odd aberration(Leicester). The gap between the wealthy and the rest has increased dramatically. A group of clubs in the middle, far from being mediocre simply can’t improve unless they have a Saudi prince investment. Hence trophies like the European Conference League develop in a similar way that League Cup, Anglo Scottish, Anglo Italian and Full Members Cup did in seasons gone by. It gives these clubs something to aim for after February.I'm usually one for saying a trophy is a trophy, but I don't feel anything for the Conference League. Saw that on Twitter. Ferdinand shot himself in the foot by slating JT for producing all his career stats, as just trying inflate his own ego, but put himself top of his own list.Anyone see Rio Ferdinand put himself 1st in his top 5 defenders of all time? He then got into a row with JT over it.

Look how much it pained Rio to put Terry in his top 5.
He knew he would get absolute sh*t if he didn’t yet still managed to make himself look like a mug by picking himself as #1. The pair of them are having a twitter battle and the comments on the video have Terry clear.
Is pretty funny Rio believes he is number 1, when in fact he is not even top 5, and VVD sucking up to him too lol.Is this all because Terry retweeted a stat from another account? That is pathetic from Ferdinand, and you can just tell with that Tweet how much it annoyed him putting Terry in his top 5. He was probably seething about it and looking around on Twitter to pick his moment and call Terry out on something. The bloke needs to get a hobby.
