It seems that the Guarin situation is clearing up slightly. After a few weeks of speculation and a lot of articles written about Manchester United's and Chelsea's interest in the Colombian midfielder, GuarÃn's agent, Marcelo Ferreyra, took time out of his schedule to give an interview for Colombian radio station Caracol and clarify the situation surrounding his client:
“At this moment in time, I am in Milan. What we can confirm is Chelsea's interest who want to meet with Fredy. They've already spoken with Inter. There is yet to be an agreement and they haven't given them leave to speak with Fredy privately. I went with Inter representatives to London to meet with Chelsea's representatives in order to officialise their interest, which is part of the negotiation process. There needs to be agreements from all parties in order to complete a transfer. If not, Fredy is very happy and comfortable here (in Milan). We also need to know about Chelsea's football project surrounding Fredy. We are not kamikazes. We don't just negotiate with the first club that comes along and expresses an interest. For him to leave, it would need to be a major project because of the World Cup in the summer. This isn't an easy situation, and we want to approach it safely.â€
When asked of the reported interest of both Manchester clubs: “These are clubs that we are analysing as an alternative. I've heard of an alleged demand by Inter that cannot be made official. We hope that we can meet with Thohir (the new president) in the next few days in order to get an idea of what football project they have in mind for Fredy at Interâ€
It's clear that Fredy Guarin and his agent are in no rush to complete a move before the window is opened. Ferreyra is aware that they have up until and the whole of January to complete any transfer but was keen to point out that the priority is to find out Inter's stance on the matter before seriously talking to other clubs.
Ferreyra was also reluctant to talk about the price at which his client would be available: “It is a private matter between two clubs and I will not say anything. We have agreed with Fredy that we would not talk with any club from Friday onwards to focus on the derby. We will listen to any proposals until Friday, then nothing until the 3rd, 4th or 5th of January.â€
With Chelsea's interest being the more advanced, it seems very likely that GuarÃn, if he finds himself left out of Inter's plans in the near future, could move to London during the January transfer window. It's also important to point out that the player would not be cup-tied for the Champions League (Inter finished 9th in Serie A last year).
As for now, unless there are huge developments over the next few days (doubtful, considering Chelsea's need to prepare for Monday's fixture against Arsenal), there shouldn't be too much on this story until the beginning of January, as stated by Marcelo Ferreyra.
Players are also allowed a bit of a break over Christmas and New Year's. They're only human, after all.
