And Bakayoko wasn’t wrapped up quickly, the deal wasn’t announced until a good few weeks after he had a medical I seem to remember.
Tottenham do the same with transfer deals, we are not alone.I think they definitely leave things late as a negotiating tactic.
They've shown they're capable of getting deals wrapped up quickly (Costa, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Jorginho) but a lot of recent transfers (Alonso, Emerson, Giroud, Zappacosta, Luiz) have been left until the final day(s) of the window.
When you look at how quickly other clubs complete their transfer business, not just in England but throughout Europe, I can't help but think it's a conscious decision by the club for it to be such a regular occurrence.
I don't think it is purposely done, it's a bit like buying a house in a chain, nobody wants to sell until a replacement has been found.I think they definitely leave things late as a negotiating tactic.
Of course every deal is different but we've definitely seen a trend at Chelsea with leaving it late to sign players. It's become a regular theme of our transfer windows now, probably more so than any other top 6 club.Every deal is different. When they see a good value in getting it done quickly and all is in place (selling club's happy with the offer and so is the player in question), they're probably able to wrap it up relatively fast. But there are many factors involved in every potential transfer, you have to deal with a player, his agents, his club and a competition from other suitors. It's easy to say, let's get it done quickly, but if the player is in high demand and doesn't necessarily view CFC as a preferred destination, then you find yourself in the midst of an auction that may take time and energy away from other possible targets and there are no guarantees you'll win it in the end and how much it'll ultimately cost you, if you do.
As for other top clubs, both Manc clubs only had one major signing each so far (Mahrez, Fred), right?
Spurs leave it super late for their transfers and their fans are frustrated by it. I think their bubble might burst soon, they've relied heavily on one or two players coming up with the goods for a couple of seasons now without bringing in any real quality to try and improve the overall squad, just seems like they keep signing squad players.Tottenham do the same with transfer deals, we are not alone.
I think there's reluctance to pay the sort of money that pushes through the big transfers quickly.I don't think it is purposely done, it's a bit like buying a house in a chain, nobody wants to sell until a replacement has been found.
If the rumours are true about a second bid for the club, then it would become clear why we have put the brakes on the spending in this window. But then whilst those around us have been paying £40/50/60m regularly we've tended to be a lot more restrained, not really going above £30m for the most part. Morata and Bakayoko were recent exceptions so maybe the club had a point!
If there was genuine interest from Roman to sell the club, sacking Conte and hiring Sarri just seems strange to me.If the r?umours are true about a second bid for the club, then it would become clear why we have put the brakes on the spending in this window.
You wouldn't hear any 'credible' rumours even if it was true. When Roman bought Chelsea we didn't hear anything until it happened, completely out of the Blue.If there was genuine interest from Roman to sell the club, sacking Conte and hiring Sarri just seems strange to me.
Why go through all that hassle and deal with compensation pay outs when you're only going to hand over the club to someone else?
I've not seen anyone credible speculate about a possible sale of the club, last one I saw was from The Secret Footballer (Dave Kitson) who isn't creditable at all.
I can't see it myself right now.
I viewed the stadium rebuilding being put on hold as a reaction to Roman not getting his visa renewed. You wouldn't hear any 'credible' rumours even if it was true. When Roman bought Chelsea we didn't hear anything until it happened, completely out of the Blue.
If you want some maybe 'credible' evidence, then look no further than the new stadium plans being shelved.
Then you would possibly be tempted to sell ?I know I wouldn't want to invest £1bn into something if I was being told I couldn't actually enjoy it.
As you say there isn't much to do in terms of buying unless a first team player leaves I.e. swap Willian for Martial, Morata for Higuain, Courtois for ... maybe Pickford Or Reina.Manchester City dont need to spend much this window since their squad is already stacked with quality and have depth, which is not the case for us. So comparing our transfer activity to theirs this summer is deceiving. We need another winger/attacking player maybe two. Maybe a cover/backup for Kante. That's it really but we haven't addressed the deadwood in the team yet with 10 days left.
Actually, it appears to be exactly that the case for us. the quality is in there, this group became champions twice in 3 years. So it's all about the depth and let's catch a glimpse on the bench:Manchester City dont need to spend much this window since their squad is already stacked with quality and have depth, which is not the case for us.
The highlighted are a big no to me. The others in the list I agree with though I think a RW and a ST are important to upgrade (CHO plays on the left so Pedro has no back up) and all of our strikers are far from convincing. I think Bats could do well. We also saw Zappacosta play RB last two games he can rotate with AzpiActually, it appears to be exactly that the case for us. the quality is in there, this group became champions twice in 3 years. Caballero, Moses(to Dave), Alonso(to Emerson), Christensen, Cahill(assuming Luiz and Rudiger starters), Fabregas(to Jorginho), RLC(to Barkley or the opposite), Pedro, CHO, Bats or Morata(to Giroud or any variation). I don't count Drinkwater, Bakayoko + 1 or 2 possible new players.
Looks pretty good depth.
I would prefer Moses over Zappacosta. Zappacosta has done nothing in his time with us that suggests he is anything other than mid table player at best. Moses at least has his moments and is actually quite decent defensively. Also, if we are chasing a win, Moses would be a good weapon to bring off the bench. He may not have great end product, but his attacking instincts are much better than Zappacosta's and he could be an extra player to add to the attack if needed. I think Azpilicueta and Moses are good enough, even Rudiger can play there so i think we are covered in that area. I would rather we sold Zappacosta and put the money towards a RW.The highlighted are a big no to me. 100% agree with this. I noticed that Sarri brought Moses on at RW last game, which worries me and makes me believe Zappacosta will be kept as backup to Azpi ffs.I would prefer Moses over Zappacosta.
