Dixon got injured day before away to southampton!

my dad managed to get us tickets next to the royal box at the top of the wembley steps, can remember Mick McCarthy & Paul Power crying like little girls as they went up to get their losers medals.

At one point during the first half it was kicking off on all 4 sides of the ground - proper Chelsea support that day!!!

 
Remember being drunk..running round outside wembley singing songs bout willys hanging out..remember chelsea in the city end n getting over excited..Dont remember any of the goals or anything else really.....(but) great day out

 
Funny enough my abiding memory of that day is how drunk I was, started in the Swan at Stockwell at opening time and made regular stops on the way to Wembley.

 
Talking of getting pissed at Members Cup Finals, anyone remember the pub up by Hanger Lane or Park Royal (memory fading badly) that was open at 9am on the morning of the match. Rammed full, and many of our top chaps in there for that lengthy session before the game :-)

 
I wish the club would start releasing DVD's of stuff like this, maybe both this final and the Full Members final against Boro on

a 2 disc set?

Not to mention the 98 Cup Winners Cup final and Super Cup.

And still no Zola dvd from the club, surely it'd sell enough to make it feasible, Lampards 1st 100 goals, I'd buy both of 'em.

 
Paying 5 quid for my ticket, going mental when goal after goal after goal went in, Nevin superb, Speedie hattrick, singing 'When Pates, goes up, to lift the Members Cup.....' great day!!

 
Remember it kicking off in the concourse - was completely hammered before kick off and to back everyone up the support in those days was a million times better than today. Dare I say it we were the best in the country away from home.

But me and some mates instead went up to Glasgow to see the old firm game at Ibrox. We'd been up there some weeks earlier for the return Bradford Fire fundraiser game and got invited back. Rangers v Celtic was incrredible on and off the pitch and in the pishing rain it finished 4-4. Staggered from the pub later to get the nightrider train back to London and another amazing match. 17 goals in two days. Phew.

Yes your right I went to the Rangers 4 Celtic 4 and came back overnight with a coach full of Rangers fans (Tudor Loyal) from Paisley, chelsea fans where banned from Southampton that day won 1-0 Pates scored

 
Heard about quite a few Chelsea going to the Rangers/Celtic game but I went down to Soton the day before. We were banned after the trouble the previous year. Didn't get in, not many did as far as I know.  One problem was they'd given away loads of tickets to local schoolkids. They were pretty much the only ones willing to sell their tickets and most of us were too old to masquerade as that age so got spotted easily. One of my group got did get in with a Soton scarf, hat and a ticket he'd bought. The rest of us got rounded up by the Old Bill and told to report to our local nick in the next three hours or we'd be done for something or the other. bo**ocks obviously but, as we weren't getting in, we left anyway.

The day of the final, on the tube early on in the day, the driver came over the intercom singing "when Pates goes up to life the Members' Cup". Great moment, got the whole train singing along with him. Had a few drinks in Charing Cross and got on a tube that stopped at every stop along the way. Bounced up and down singing "we're all pissed up and we're going to Wem-ber-ley" all the way there, mostly because my best mate was desperate for a piss. He hated every moment of that journey.

It was my first visit to Wembley and my only time seeing Chelsea there standing on a terrace. Took various mates who supported other London clubs. All agreed it was a great day out. Got there just before kick off, didn't think we'd get in before it started when lo and behold the gates went in and we all rushed in. Brilliant match of course.

Gate was 68,000 which made sense to me. I'd read somewhere that City had sold 18,000 tickets. We seemed to have exactly half the ground which would be as close to 50,000 as could be so 68,000 works as an attendance. Don't remember any trouble inside at all strangely.

Best thing was I worked in a hotel in Cobham at the time and some of the Chefs were Citeh fans (all good lads I have to say). They went to the game too and one of them left when they were 5-1 down and didn't find out the right result until he got back home.

Great day out all in all, really enjoyed my first Chelsea trophy win.

My mrs was due to give birth and rings me a couple of hours before the game to tell me her  waters have broke and to get back home.No chance,first final chelsea had got to for years.Saw the game rushed home half pissed just in time to see the birth of my first boy,cause for a double celebration that night

 
Happy days these, I was 16 at the time and hadn"t seen chelsea play at wembley before. Went up with a mate. I can remember the que and crush outside the stadium. When inside our end was rammed, while the city end was only about half full. Can remember a fantastic rendition of mo meadow and the chelsea end singing "we are proud of you chelsea when it all kicked off in the city end and then loads of chelsea were escorted along the dog track into our end. Relaxing and enjoying the afternoon at 5-1, until the final crazy last 10 mins!! "dougies scored at wembley". My parents went as well but apparently only saw first 15mins as our end was so full they climbed out via a ladder!!! Got back to school the following day and gave it the biggun to all the armchair manc and scouser fans! yes it was only the full members cup, but I had been there at wembley more that can be said for my tv supporting mates! We weren"t the best in those days, but deep down my mates were secretly jealous that I would go to chelsea (family thing)  and they couldn"t as they had chosen a team from up north that won things but were to far away to go and watch! Twenty six years on I don"t see those school mates anymore, drifted apart and all that, but I bet they still don"t go to football. A year or so ago though I did bump into one of them while watching my eldest son playing football, from a distance he roared "chelsea" we had a quick chat and went our seperate ways. Funny how he remembered a quarter of century later I was Chelsea, because I haven"t a clue who he supported?...now was it liverpool, everton, united..... who cares he probabley doesn"t remember either!!!!

 
Our day began from a pub in Epsom that had opened its back doors around 8 am.  The pub was rammed and had Chelsea flags all over the walls, the whole pub then jumped on an open top double decker bus up to Wembley. Drunken carnage all the way, the lower deck was awash in p*ss pouring down from the top level, blokes hanging/falling off the sides.  Surprisingly the bus wasn't there to take us home.  What a day, what a game, what a p*ss up !  Pure Vintage Chels
