Yeah Ali did it but he was a proper comedian.. Plus he actually backed up his trash talking.

Haye got spanked and didn't even have the stones to admit he was well beaten and blamed his toe. What a ball bag. His whole team should be ashamed of themselves with the after fight interviews

I wouldn't really say he got spanked? Vlad's puches were not doing too much, Haye was well up to them! The whole fight, both fighters, were poor all round.

 
No surprises with the result, a spanking on points. Just what he deserved. Poor fight with Haye not winning himself any fans by going to ground all the time. I just wish that Pacman vs Mayweather would happen to get some excitement back into boxing.

I seem to remember Vitali being the better one in that game, but Lewis won on TKO because Vitalis eyebrow was damaged. So really the better boxer lost that time.

 
Just quietly it's utterly ridiculous to suggest that Vitali even comes near Lennox as a fighter. Lennox apart from beating Vitali also has victories over Tyson (given Tyson phoned it in) as well as Holyfield. I'm not at all a Lennox fan, but lets give him his due here.

BTW Mod I didn't see you post about it not being a spanking before I posted mine. Just to clarify, 117-109, 118-108 and 116-110 says it was a spanking, or as the Ring Magazine summary put it 'a world class drubbing.' Those are similar scores to Pacquaio v Mosleyy and that was most certainly a spanking.

The truth is Haye's gloves couldn't keep up with his mouth, Klitschko might be boring but his size is going to make him a very difficult man to beat for the smaller Western European and American fighters.

Thats Vlads modus operandi Mod, jab the opposition away from him scoring points but not seemingly doing a lot of damage. But those jabs take it out of a boxer, especially the one hitting the upper arms. Dozens of those make your arms feel like lead, and couple that with having to punch upwards all night Hayes arms will have been heavy as hell after about 5 rounds. Getting past those jabs was Hayes only chance but he just couldnt get inside at all, Vlad is that good at what he does. Its not good to watch but its effective.

I didn't mean a points spanking, I meant physically. Haye was holding up to Vlad's boring robotic punches very easily. After 12 rounds, there was more damage to Haye's toe than to anywhere else. I think it definitely made a difference to the fight, so why carry on going through with it. Was Haye just looking for a last big pay day, the same thing Harrison was crucified for a little while back!

Either way, that was a huge fight, and both didn't live up to the hype of it all.

Someone on sky was saying Haye shouldn't be in the heavyweight class as he just isn't a real heavyweight and isn't good enough.

I don't watch much boxing and even I could see he was pretty outclassed by what looked like an average heavyweight compared to some of the previous champions I've seen. The toe thing is rubbish too imo, people have won those important fights with broken hands. Cagey and and pretty boring affair really - loss by jabs isn't going to be exciting in any case.

 
The toe isn't entirely inconsequential, but would it have made that much difference? I don't think it gives Haye a win. Make no mistake there will probably be a rematch and I'd expect Klitschko to win that as well. I'm actually surprised Haye lasted the difference.

Keeping the boxing theme, but moving away a little from the fight. On BBC Knowledge this afternoon here in Australia there was a fantastic doco on the 'Thriller in Manilla.' It featured footage as well as interviews with Frazier and others from around the fight. Really interesting. It is still in my mind the greatest feat of endurance ever shown in professional sport. Two absolute greats going at it in 40 degree heat with close to 100% humidity for 14 rounds until both were on the brink of collapse. Ali Frazier 1 may have been a better technical fight, but that fight in Manilla was something else, something I don't think will ever be repeated. The doco is simply called 'The Thriller in Manilla' if you can get a hold of it, it's absolutely worth watching.

 
Castiel, the old adage of a good big un will always beat a good little un was bang on last night. Haye is an excellent boxer, but is nothing more than a Cruiserweight fighting well beyond his weight unfortunately. Heavyweights are at least 17 stone nowadays, Haye fought last night at about 15 1/2 and klitchko had about 4 inches on reach and 45-50 lbs in weight. The difference was astronomical in terms of prize fighting.

 
So David Haye has blamed the defeat on a broken toe.

Probably dropped a hardcopy of "Arsene Wenger's book of excuses" on it :laugh2:

obviously has his motives, but at least he's fronting up today and taking the flak in lots of media interviews today (bbc, sky sports etc)

 
Another hyped up fight which ended in preditcale and disappointing manner. Vitali was never in danger of losing, that's why he never need to take risks and go for the KO. Haye was happy to last 12 rounds and blame the defeat on injury. A rematch would be ridiculous, as this one was not even close. Every fighter carries some kind of niggling injury after an intense training camp, to blame the defeat on a toe is just laughable.
