It's a shame he was never quite good enough to be given a good chance with us. I really had high hopes that he could've been one to break through.CORK TRANSFER AGREED

Chelsea Football Club can confirm we have reached agreement with Southampton for the permanent transfer of Jack Cork.
A product of the club's Academy, Jack was with Chelsea since the age of nine, but never made a competitive senior appearance and now joins a club he spent time on loan with in 2008.
A regular loanee, Jack represented no fewer than six clubs on temporary deals away from Stamford Bridge, and has won 13 England Under 21 caps, forming part of their European Championship squad this summer.
The 22-year-old spent the entirety of last season at Burnley, where he scored three times in 46 appearances, despite suffering from a heart complaint late in the season.
He also represented Coventry City, Watford, Sc**thorpe United and Bournemouth, and has clocked up more than 150 senior appearances, 25 of them for Southampton.
Jack was a part of Chelsea's pre-season tour to America in 2007, making his debut in a friendly against Mexican side Club America.

I agree that 3million is not a bad price at all and considering we got a similar amount for Mancienne we should be satisfied to a certain degree that these lads are getting us some returns. We haven't had a single manager who dared giving youth a good enough chance and when it was looking Carlo may be prepared to do that he sends the whole lot of them on loan. Apart from Josh I don't have my hopes pinned on the others.3m not a bad price. It's always a shame to see players go without getting a gig. One questions our policy a little when we bought Matic for whatever it was, he played twice and then we sold him off, meanwhile Jack never got a game.
It does prove it is working, this is exactly how an academy should be run. Jack was a decent player but not good enough to play for Chelsea, and he has been sold. Same as pretty much every other youth player that has left of alte (other than Tore, but thats just my opinion). Or do you think every young player should make it through to the first team squad? Maybe we should have a squad of 60 or 70 for next season.Well done Jack.....proves our youth program is flourishing......can't be anyone left now can there?....oh Josh...silly me he hasn't been sold ...yet!
Thats some good negotiating, weve sold him to 2 clubs at the same time.

That fee certainly does sound more realistic.http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12875_7025371,00.htmlThe England Under 21 international, who spent last season on loan at Burnley, has signed a four-year deal for a fee thought to be around [/URL]
That fee does sound more accurate. Not sure where the 3m figure is coming from.
Doesn't sound realistic if this "official" piece from Burnley is an indicator. That fee certainly does sound more realistic.
I have flogged this issue to death in regards to this organization and it's youth program. Millions have been piled into this program and I doubt the ROI is that great. I am fed up with hearing from this club how we are going to give the youth a chance...damn right we are...but not with this club. If they stated what their real policy is, which is to develop players and flog them I would be happy..at least they wouldn't be trying to make a fool of us fans. Perhaps you can explain the statements and the policy arising from this program. Good luck to Jack and the rest of them....who has come through the youth program in the last 10 years and made it to the first team...apart from Josh?It does prove it is working, this is exactly how an academy should be run. Though I'm frustrated that we appear to not give youth a chance, it is unrealistic to expect an endless production line of talent. 1 player a year is fine by me, and if that's Josh last year and some one else (e.g. Bertrand, Chalobah, PVA) next season then we'll be doing reasonably well. Remember we hadn't won the FA Youth Cup for 50 years until recently, and so we're only just starting to see the results of investment in the Academy, the days of Joe Keenan, Danny Hollands and Joel Kitamarike (no offence to them) being our star products is long gone.I have flogged this issue to death in regards to this organization and it's youth program. As you have stated the academy has been reasonably successful at selling players....I don't mind, and maybe the odd shining star will come along once in a while...fair enough..but then the club should state that is what the Youth Program is for 'developing mediocre to fairly decent players to sell to lower level teams' and as I said..don't tell us anything else. Even the odd decent hard working player coming out of the academy should be given a fair shot and not the odd game here and there while high priced, inflated ego players who simply 'turn up' now and then or a 20mill bench warmer who whines and complains about playing time. Although not directly from the academy it will be interesting to see what happens to Sturridge, either he is going to have to play out wide or go elsewhere because he is not going to take over from Drogba or Torres...'Give youth a chance' and lets see some speed and enthusiasm rather than the sideways, backwards football we had to endure last year.Though I'm frustrated that we appear to not give youth a chance, it is unrealistic to expect an endless production line of talent. 1 player a year is fine by me, and if that's Josh last year and some one else (e.g. Bertrand, Chalobah, PVA) next season then we'll be doing reasonably well. As for your question about who has come through our youth team in the past 10 years, it's hardly amazing but we've still made decent-ish money out of the few that have come through. For example:
Huth-sold for £6 million
Carlton Cole-Undisclosed fee (£2-5 million ?)
Mikael Forssell-£3 million
Mancienne- £2 million
Stoch- £5 million
Sahar-£1 million
Cork-£750,000
So that's around £12-20 million from these players, depending on which figures you believe. And these players, apart from Stoch and Sahar, were at Chelsea for the most part before our academy was revamped-Mancienne and Cork may have been here up till now but it's arguable that they're more of a product of pre-Abramovich youth systems having been here so long. My point being, surely with our academy improved since then, it is likely that we will make more money from better players than the ones listed above. Whilst in an ideal world the core of our team would be home grown, with our managerial instability and results pressure this is unlikely to happen soon. It's frustrating I know, but I reckon our academy will pay for its self pretty soon if not already.
Oh I agree, we don't seem to have the squad players like Man Utd had with O'Shea coming through anywhere nearly enough and they aren't probably given enough games. And definitely agree about Sturridge, he has earned a chance despite some people on here still having doubts about him! The sad truth though is that whatever we say we want our academy to do, most the players aren't going to be up to the standard. It's the same at every academy around the world, even at Barca for every Pedro, Xavi and Iniesta there were probably 10 rejects.
