Jimmy Greaves suffers a stroke

Hope he pec overs quickly, heard Spurs were giving a lifetime achievement award next week. Unfortunately he probably won't be able to receive it when he was supposed to. Hope he recovers and gets his award.

Had the pleasure of meeting this legendary striker some years ago at a book signing. As a player Jimmy never received the credit that he deserved. He was a goal scoring machine, lethal in the box. Not renowned for his tracking back or tackling but could sniff out a chance in an instance. I hope he make a speedy and as full a recovery as possible, a true great of English football and arguably the greatest centre forward of his time.

Get well soon Jimmy

Sorry to hear that, hope he makes a full recovery.

Get well Jimmy ... He is the spit of my grandad who was a life long Chelsea supporter and always said Jimmy was the greatest ever and by far !

Best goal scorer the club had ever produced and absolutely prolific for club and country. Get well soon Greavsie.

Like Andy, my Dad speaks very highly of Greavsie. I hope he's as well as he can be.

Greatest goalscorer this country has produced since the second world war. Get well soon Jimmy

Good player throughout his career. Loved him on TV Saturday lunch time on saint and greavsie. Always gave a straight and honest answer. Get well soon.

Jimmy Greaves: Ex-England and Spurs striker out of intensive care

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/32594079

"Ex-England and Tottenham striker Jimmy Greaves is out of intensive care after suffering a severe stroke on Sunday.

His family say the 75-year-old is able to sit up in bed, adding that while he is "by no means out of the woods there is room for cautious optimism."

Greaves has a club-record 220 league goals for Tottenham from 1961 to 1970.

His 44 goals in 57 caps puts him fourth in the list of all-time England goalscorers behind Sir Bobby Charlton, Gary Lineker and Wayne Rooney.

A statement on Tuesday from Greaves's wife Irene read: "Jimmy is having to do what he is told and understands the seriousness of what has happened. He's in the best hands."

Greaves, who had a minor stroke in 2012, scored a then-club record 124 league goals for Chelsea between 1957 and 1961.

He also played for AC Milan and West Ham and was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad but originally missed out on a medal because he was injured during the group stage.

In the 1980s he forged a new career as a football pundit on ITV, most notably alongside former Liverpool striker Ian St John on Saint and Greavsie, which ran from 1985 to 1992."

Good news, wish him all the best in his recovery!

Doctors, with years of training and expertise?

Because they get it wrong very occasionally doesn't make their judgement poor.

Poor Jim. He was greased lightning in his day. Lost a yard when he left us but still the ultimate assassin.
