Joško Gvardiol

Then we'll surely screw around, bid 10 mill less than their price, then put a player + cash deal, agree personal terms then suddenly chase Ake, Kimpembe and other defenders around Europe. When none of it works out then we panick and come running back to him. But in the meantime, Barca would've convinced him to join them.
Is like you have seen this play before...

If we arent getting Kounde, i would break the bank for Gvardiol. If we switch to a back 4, you are effectively getting a fantastic left back and centre back for the next 10 years, (or before he gets tapped up by spain).

Seems expensive now, but he looks like a real future proof signing, in any system.

Im worried we are spending money without a sporting director, we dont want to find ourselves trying to shift players again in 12 months time.

Im very happy with Koulibaly, as i think we needed quality immediately in that defence, I can understand Sterling, although not my favourite player, he knows the league, the orice was okay, and i think he will do a job.

If we are still looking for 4 more players, tney need to young with high potential, because it is getting increasingly harder to sell players 28+, maybe its the pandemic, but players seem more willing to see their contracts out now than ever before.

So Gvardiol fits in nicely for for me, experienced enough, and with enough quality to play straight away, but young enough that if it didnt work out, there would be plenty of suitors willing to pay furthet down the line.

Either we break the bank for this bloke or Fofana.
I would be ok with either to be honest, both would be able to do a job now as well as for at least the next 5 years. The issue we now have is clubs will know we were very publicly in for Kounde for around £55m-£60m and any other club we approach will know how desperate we are for a good centre back and probably won't accept anything less than what we was willing to pay for Kounde.

In the early years of Roman it would be both. Those times are gone, we are a business now and those two are too expensive.
Worth remembering though in the early days of Roman these two would probably cost less than £50m combined. Probably much easier to sanction two signings at £50m than 2 signings at £150m+ haha!

Throw 70M at them and see what happens. Could be our next Ivanovic type rock.

With Koulibaly in we could go for a younger defender. KK and Silva leadership is plenty for the backline.

I know taht self quoting is a bit of a no no, but thsi is what i put on teh Timo Werner page:

But we're paying him £15m a year...and he runs a lot!! I'm absolutly convinced that TB has Werner in his sights to move him on and if he can't get him totally off the books I reckon he will loan him out and pay 50%.

If we went for Gvardiol and lent Werner to Leipzig, even if we paid half his salary it will still save us £7.5m a year, or in fact will probably offset all of Gvardiol's wages for the year.

Geniunely why aren't we offering him as a loannee back to them as a sweetener for buying Gvardiol, They could have a buy option if they want and we can cover half his wages whilst on loan. We would still be okay financially doing this, wouldn't we, without affecting FFP. Even if we had him back after a year perhaps he would have regained his confidence again and may be a better player second time around.

As clever as we might like to think we all are here, especially me 🙂, whatever we can think of the club can think of too. Loaning Timo to Leipzig will certainly have been considered and, for all we know, has been proposed. If it hasn't been there is a reason for that.

As for Gvardiol, I like him a lot and would be really happy to see him here.

I'm going off his presser over the weekend. He said that we need another CB and that Koulibaly could play LCB.

RCB looks to be the priority.
Ah I see. How odd that, aside from the failed Kounde and De ligt bids, we are left linked to Kilman, Kimpembe and this fella who are all left sided.

Think Mohamed Simakan will be the one that comes in.

This would be ideal, then hopefully he bangs them in and we can do a deal for Nkunku next summer!

Had not heard of him till you mentioned him. Apparently not been linked to us since January 2021. Linked before TT got the job even.
