Not harsh at all, I doubt he'll feature too much but if there's a time and place to prove yourself this is it for him.

On the contrary this move will signify that we won't be going in for a CB this summer. IMO Ivan will be moved to the centre and Kalas will be backup to Azpi.

It's just that when Jose was here before he played Essien and Ferreria at CB before turning to our youth players.

Yes he may have a new brief from the club about using the resources from the youth academy but when it comes to crunch time in the league matches will he pick Kalas at Right Back or will he play Essien? 

I would love to see the likes of Kalas, Lukaku, McEachran and Chalobah to have a big part to play in this coming season but until the season gets underway I'm taking what Jose says with a pinch of salt. 

 
When Jose was here before we didn't have any youth CBs worth playing. He certainly wasn't shy about using Varane at Madrid.

Still, 'wait and see' is a perfectly sensible attitude.

 
True, but Varane is an exceptional talent, I'm not quite sure Kalas is on the same level as Varane as of yet but there's no reason he shouldn't get playtime if he proves himself.

 
I don't think Kalas is another Varane, but if memory serves Jose's first spell saw him running out people like Steven Watt against lower-league cup opponents. With all respect to Watt, Kalas is a much better player and I'd expect Jose to be much more willing to use him.

 
I would love for players like Kalas to establish themselves in our squad because then the media would have to stop going about the lack of players we've bought through our academy.

 
There may well be a squad thing here in that Kalas is under 21 so doesn't have to named in the 25 man squad but, and here's an interesting thing, I think that next May he will turn 21 but because he has been a Chelsea player since 2010 will count as a home-grown player

 
What about Omeruo? Haven't seen him much, but he has already established himself as a starter in the Nigerian national team.

 
It seems Mourinho is satisfied with Kalas being part of our main squad this season since we made no moves for a CB.  Considering he also sees Ivan as a RB this means we've got Luiz, Kalas, Terry and Cahill as our CBs.  Ivan would surely go in there in an emergency.  The question becomes, how good is Kalas?  It's a shame he's injured because I'd love to see what he can do - but everything suggests that Mourinho is going to put some faith in him this season.

We'll have to wait for League Cup to see more from him.

 
On the bench today. Though i have a feeling that if Dave had to go off Jose would bring on Essien at RB before he'd bring on kalas.

 
Injury combined with Jose's love for Ivan means he had no chance from the get go.

 
Dave has taken a beating this game, gone off twice with injuries already.

Pray to god if he does have to come off we don't put Essien there after what we saw from him vs Sunderland, lol.

 
Looks like he's off on loan in January according to his agent,doubt he will go back to Vitesse.Be good if he could get a prem loan but not sure what teams he could go to where he would get games.
