I'd back us to keep a clean sheet here. However, if we go behind and the game plan goes out the window, it will be a very long afternoon.

We'll get beaten comfortably. Doesn't necessarily mean we won't win the league but I'm not putting money on us. We are crying out for a game changer but the days of that kind of investment are over.

said in a thread in the rumours section that I think we will get absolutely tonked in this one.

harbinger of doom I am!! just not confident at all and they looked fantastic tonight against a pulis side that humped us 3-0 at the end of the season.

fingers crossed for a draw. we are far from ready for this.

I expect Jose will deploy the same game plan as the past 2 seasons, wouldn't be surprised if Zouma play midfield , Cesc further up the field, and Oscar out. I hoe Oscar starts again, would be disappointing to see him dropped because this the game we need to play 'safe'. No doubt it will be a tough game, but I usually feel more confident about game like this, than a trip to Newcastle or Crystal Palace.

A defeat on Sunday may convince the board to spend big before the end of the transfer window.

I don't think you can make such statements after watching 45 minutes against West Brom. On top of us being down to 10 (which we deserved) We can only carry on guessing.

My guess is that we will defend and poach.

We cannot just write ourselves off so early on. If we are still struggling after 5 then we (and MR A) will assess.
They did look better than us by a margin but it was more of  comical reference to Joe hart doing head and shoulders ads, the good news is we looked 10 times better than we did against Florentina so hopefully we will take that jump up in sharpness again this week, plus we have a fully fit squad so it could be happy days ahead if we take teh three points it makes a statement, I'm not worried about Arsenal or Man U just like I wasn't last season, our only real rivals are city I feel.

I would seriously doubt it.
I agree, think we have planned this out by July. It's either  a calculated gamble, or we just ran out of money to spend (new stadium?) God forbid if we lose heavily on the weekend, there will be a front page picture of Roman's frowning face and titled Jose is facing the sack  :Connie_threaten:

It's only August for god sake.

Chelsea are appealing the Tibo Red Card.

I think it'll be a 1-1 draw (maybe I'm being hopeful here).

......................Begovic

Ivan......Zouma......Terry......Dave

.............Matic.....Fabregas

Ramires.......WIllian.......Hazard

......................Costa

We'll probably play really defensively and this will mean Ivan is well protected and unlikely to see a repeat of Saturday. Unfortunately Rami will come in meaning any hope of passing it around a bit and having at least 40% of the ball is unlikely. Game will probably be decided on how good a day Azpi, Terry, Matic, and Costa have.   Need at least 2 of them to have a 9/10 kind of performance to have any hope.

Jose's Mantra against the top teams is don't get beat first and foremost, then try to nick a winner somewhere.

Despite the results for the teams in week 1, I don't see that changing. It's a long season.

Can see this being 0-0.

jose will play for a draw, and a draw will be a very good result considering our current form

i expect the same lineup as last game, but hopefully zouma starts on the middle with matic, but i cant see jose dropping cesc out of the starting 11

to be fair, 4 points behind is nothing really with 36 games to go. however, we should want to get something from this game, especially away from home.

I don't think there is any shame in getting beat by city at the etihad, even though they ran out of arsehole last season they are still a very strong side. I'm really starting to question what our long term plan is through ? Unless we identified targets but couldn't get them over the line I find it baffling that we haven't strengthened. As neville said toward the end of last year. Add someone like bale to the side and there is a real chance of domination for the next few years?

Are we tightening the purse strings? If so why? We can clearly afford to spend £50 on a player ?

that happiness of arsenal getting beat has dropped a little after seeing city get a result last night. hopefully we can bury the c**ts this weekend, their fanbase is up there with the worst of them, then on top of that the arrogance and loud mouths of both kompany and pellegrini, how anyone could not want to see them lose is beyond me.

Think we will get beat by 2 goals.

We just don't look ready for this season yet, the pre season was awful in terms of preparation.

i agree with what one of our fans said the other day on a youtube video. i think we're struggling right now but we'll hit our peak all of a sudden and start picking our form up. we ended the season and then went to Australia, some of the lads went to the copa america, we had a shorter pre-season, coming back from USA then playing in the charity shield a few days later, then fiorentina game mid week after and then a league game, so i have no doubts it's taken it's toll, but we just need to get going again and we'll step up the gears. i am hoping we peak this weekend and put a real good show on vs city to show OUR intent.

It certainly isn't the "ran out of money" thing, we had like +- 130m£ to spend. The club/Roman just decided that he didn't want to spend i guess.
