Mancienne

I have a feeling Carvalho will start alongside Ivanovic in the centre and Mancienne will be on the bench.

I read on the official site (but now can't find it) that Bosingwa has a slight injury and might not play. So maybe our defence would line up like this?:

Ash - Riccy C - Mancienne - Ivanovic

Really excited that Manc could start (some sources say he will).

Great stuff...Chelsea actually bringing through players...who would have thunk it! :D

i`d actually expect to see ivanovic play central and mancienne right back.

Doesn't it say somewhere that Paulo should start? Hopefully he does to give Ash a much deserved rest!

Well that was all a fuss over nothing. Mancienne predictably reclaimed his place on the bench. With JT now back from suspension he'll probably not even make to the bench for the next game. I'm really struggling to see when he will get a chance and wondering why we recalled him from Wolves. Perhaps we are planning on selling Alex or Ivanovic but otherwise I do not understand why we rushed him back.

Marginally interesting stats about Mancienne's time at Wolves.

In the time he was there they played 13 games (Mancienne played in 10 of them - I must admit I was too lazy to find out which games he missed). Of those 13 games they won 9, drew 3 and only lost 1. They scored 23 goals and conceded 9 (only once conceding more than one goal in a game)

Since he returned to Chelsea they have played 5 games. Of those 5 they have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3. They have only scored 6 goals and conceded 8, coneding more than one goal in 3 of the 5.

I know this doesn't definitively put all the credit on Mancienne however I would be prepared to wager they wish they had him back!

Deary me Michael.

Long ball over the top sends Sadik in after Mancienne lets it bounce again, Sadik is in and Mancienne hauls him down, penalty and red card! Shocking defending from Mancienne, and England have been awful so far to be honest.
Sounds like he had an absolute shocker, making many silly mistakes that led to great chances, and managed to get himself sent off tonight too.

Shame, but hopefully he can bounce back from it.

Yeah a real shame for the lad.

In his defence he's not played much this season so perhaps not as sharp as when he was at Wolves getting rave reviews.

Let's hope he bounces back from this.

Hopefully he won't be affected by it. It happens to everyone, just unlucky it was him.

Just seen the incident and its fair to say its not his finest moment.

Hopefully that is the last high profile error is a long (Chelsea) career!

he was caught out in exactly the same way only minutes before and he didn't learn.

very dissapointing

It'll be a good test of his character. I remember JT getting sent off for the U21's and he came back strongly so hopefully Michael can do the same

this tournament has pretty much validated the worrys i had that he would struggle against a physical striker. the two games hes played have seen him up against big powerful lads and they have both bullied him. hes a very classy player but just doesnt have the physical stature to play as a central defender at the highest level.

Depends who he has playing alongside him. The U21's don't have anyone of JT's or Vidic's strength. Ferdinand is not the strongest defender but alongside Vidic it works. It could be the same for Michael playing alongside JT.

maybe, but ferdinand isnt that small either. mancienne is pretty small both in height and build to play central for me, and i dont think he will be getting any bigger. shame really as hes very cool on the ball and an excellent passer.

Mancienne is about the same size as Ferdinand was at the same age. In time he will fill out even more because it's natural and the training regime will put him on the relevant programme to help this growth.
