On the face of it this is as bad a move as the club have made since letting ballack go. We are replacing an exceptional defensive mid with some one we hope will provide us with an upgrade, a player who has a suspect knee and no expirence of our league, on top of this we have CL football this year and have sold clouaba and let RLC go out on loan.

If it's true his location is united it makes it even worse. Matic will be perfect for them allowing 

it would be allow pogba to move further up the pitch and really getting the best from him. 

Better buisness would be to be to keep matic and make an assessment In Jan window after having seen how the season is going

also, I am using facts. Matic will be one of our most played players if you combine both the title winning seasons which would lead one to assume that he is definitely an above average player, which is a way OTT statement.

the club did not stop lukaku/kdb/number of other players from leaving (latest would be chalobah) and that can be due to various reasons.

if he was as bad as you have been saying, then he would not have been playing. Simple.

He's a bang average footballer (I'm being generous) he had one monster season but outside of that he's not been good enough.

ideally I wouldn't want to sell him to united but if it stops them buying Fabinho then I'd give them him as Fabinho would improve them twice as much as Matic IMO.

You spoke my mind. I will sell him to any team for 35m. With that money, we will easily get an upgrade and a younger player.

Do you seriously think he will be an automatic starter at Man United? I will easily swap him for Herrera. Carrick might no longer have the strength but he is still far more intelligent than Matic.

Bro, I don't think Conte actually rate Matic that much. If Conte was able to sign Nainggolan or that Inter guy we were linked with last season, Matic will rarely start a game. Jose is the only manager that rate Matic as a top player that's why he doesn't get seriously linked with any top team. If Conte was appointed manager of Madrid or Barcelona, will he be desperate to sign Matic? No!

Are you implying that no teams have ever won the league with average players in their side? If you rate Matic that's fine you're more than welcome to, just don't get your knickers in a twist that other people think he's a poor footballer, which he is. He was never a technically gifted footballer but he was a brilliant player at breaking things up & recycling the ball for about a year and a half but that was a long time ago now.

He's slow, his passing is poor, as is his awareness, he's not even physically commanding anymore for a guy of his size, you could probably count on one hand the amount of headers he's won last season. 

You better ask the board that shouldnt you? Considering they're the ones that have let go of all the depth we have.

I'd be happy for him to stay around as a squad player but £40m for Matic verging on 29 will not come around again, thus it's a no brainer to sell and we'll need another replacement alongside Bakayoko (and before you ask me who, that's what we have a scouting network for)

 
Yea hard to turn down anything north of 30m for him as we probably will never get anything close to that in the future. Its very damning of his talent level that we have no problem having him train on his own and pushing him out while also selling Chalo

 
Been told that he and Diego can stay home and not travel with the team for pre-season.

Winning the league with average squad players is not unheard of, not a first teamed. Specially to the extent some fans would have you believe that Matic is.

but I can feel that Matic is the new scapegoat around here so it's not worth arguing.

Mate this guy likes arguing say ok and save yourself the trouble....hard I know when saying things like Costa has a sh*t first touch  :face_palm:  his first touch is one of his best attributes

He's got all the attributes Jose like, I believe he will be a major player if we sell him to United. Like I said, Chelsea should not be helping rival clubs, transfer fee is almost irrelevant.
