Our best right-back/centre half option is at QPR yet again (he should have been called back last season)
Maybe this is reason we signed belletti as a stop gap until next season. I've not seen mancienne play much. Is he that good?

At a first sight, it seems a bad move. But I wont jump into conclusions yet. Let the man play and then we'll see.
exactly.

How many thought Sheva and Ballack were going to be stars due to their reputation.

It's what they do in blue that counts, nothing else!

We have enough trust in the progress of our youngsters and see no point in spending ?25 on a right-back when a youth team player is expected to step up int he next couple of seasons.
That`s the idea I like, but have we any youth player better than Johnson, making discount for age.

I`m pretty sure - not!!

I've seen him in a few games for the Chelsea youth team (or was it the reserves?) and even though I've mainly seen him as CB I have to say that he's really good. A new JT

I think he has played as RB at QPR from time to time and as far as I know the QPR-fans think he's the best player in the team.

So I hope we'll give Mancienne a chance next season.

I think that most of us were not in favour of signing Sheva and Ballack as we feared what eventually came true. Much the same was felt when we signed Veron. I have exactly the same feeling about belletti... and for ?10m? Please God no!!! Will give the guy a chance but won't be holding my breath. What is particularly gutting is that Wenger has - once again - found a classy exciting right-back in Bacary Sagna who was signed for ?6m. Now that's the kind of signing we could have made.

I watched Mancienne play for England Under 21's this week and he did well. He didn't do anything flashy but he looked the part and his passing was decent. My QPR mates have very good things to say about him too.

As far as Belletti is concerned this reminds me of the Gallas/Cole saga last year. We sell a great player who wants to leave and replace him with a decent player but no improvement on what we already have. Seems like a transfer for the sake of it. Perhaps Belletti is more of an attacking right back then Paulo but then so is Johnson. I'm a little confused as to the point of this.

Still I'm not going to get too upset. We have a good squad and Belletti will just give us some more cover in that position. We may yet see Alves arrive in January or even next summer for a lower price.

He cant be any worse than Glenda.

Let's see him play, before writing him off entirely.

I am not writing him off at all. He is an entirely competent right back and only lost his place because Barca bought one of the finest right backs in the business. I am pretty sure he will do a perfectlt good job for us, I just don't see the point in buying a 31 year old right back who is certainly no better than our 28 year old right back.

Very strange signing. Unless, it means that Ferreira will be first choice, Belletti direct back up and Johnson will leave. Three players for one spot just doesn?t make any sense.

I am curious to see how things will develop at Seville will they keep an unhappy player or sell him to Real Madrid for half of what we offered.

I suspect we will now offload GJ. We will then be left with Belletti for more games where we want a more attacking approach or Paulo when we want to be more defensive.

As long as this was a Jose signing I think we have to respect his decision and hope it works out. We have played Barca enough times over the last few years so Jose must have been impressed enough with what he saw to want him at the Bridge.

Of course if he was not a Jose signing that is another matter....

I thought that this was just another load of ballacks made up by the press, I dont see why we need him or any other RB. I'll give him a chance but i dont think this will fix the problem that shouldnt have arisen. And unless im thinking of someone else wasnt he responsible for Eidur's and Duffer's goal at the bridge.

ha- so many people damning the guy have probably seen him play about 3 times.

what he is, is an experienced attacking fullback. given how sh*t paulo and johnson are regarded, you'd think more people would be pleased. or is everyone upset because we didn't sign a younger player for ?25m, even if you also haven't seen him play either?

I'm not thrilled with the transfer because I reckon a confident johnno given a run of games at rightback is a potentially better player, and paulo is the king of the world in any case.

We have to assume that the signing of Alves wasn't designed to strengthen us defensively in that position. Everything I have seen or read about him revolves around how good he is going forward. Belletti may be older but essentially he is the same type of player. Not great defensively but very attack minded and very quick. May not be as good as Alves but he was a hell of a lot cheaper. At 5.5m Euros you might say just loose change.

So we now have Paulo if we want to play a tight game, Belletti if we want to be expansive and Glen Johnson if we just want to take pot luck!

I think any signing of a right back is likely to result in both GJ and Diarra leaving.

True he was cheap, but that's because he's 31. Surely a younger option would have been better, or at least give Johnoson a chance to develop as he won't get better by sitting on the bench

maybe thats what Belletti was bought for.

good signing in my opinion.. short-term fix but for ?3.7m I can't argue especiallly as we got ?25m for Robben - be better defending than GJ and PF atm and that right-back area has been one of the keys to unlocking us.. also, at 31-years-old he has experience in-and-winning the Champions League (remember guys he scored the winner v Arse-anal's in the 2006 final) and has played in one of the strongest leagues in the world (La Liga).

Another point I'd like to make is that although he is Brazilian he holds an Italian passport therefore not using up a non-EU place - and there is still time to secure the signing of Alves, although it is unlikely that we will now go for him after signing Belletti..

I have the notion that this means we are going to offload Johno, play Paulo regularly, and have this new Belletti chap in at RB only when needed. Basically we have just signed a 31 yr old back up for Paulo
