I'm not remotely pushing JT to one side and I think removing him as England captain goes against the 'innocent until proven guilty' belief that our justice system works on

But JT probably has 2-3 years left at the top of his game, Lampard looks more and more likely to move on next summer if not this and drogba is even closer to the door.

At this point I don't think there are any outstanding candidates in the squad.

Am I wrong or is there anyone else outside of our squad that would be suitable, or more importantly available???

 
I think in 2-3 years time there will be an outstanding contender.

Probably not worth worrying about now, Terry will be around for some time yet.

 
If Hutch progresses to be a first team regular he'll eventually be the right person for the job. JT has said that he thinks Luiz is a future Chelsea captain, and his progress this season suggests he's a quick learner so could be a contender.

I do think though that Sunday showed we were desperately short of leaders on the pitch.

Apart from the quoteless/factless tabloid stories that consist of 3 sentences each, I've not seen much evidence? Certainly nothing that suggests "more and more likely" - have I missed something where a journo hasn't made 5 from 2+2?

Not that I believe he's great captain material, but not sure where the above story has come from apart from The Sun & The Mail.

 
I think in the future Luiz will be a great captain,but he has to prove it the next 2-3 years.

But maybe the most members here prefer an english man?

 
Luiz would certainly be a good captain in a couple years time.

Other candidates could be; essien and mata.

I agree. I commented elsewhere that the first 30 minutes against UTD were woeful and the lack of any sort of shape, guidence, discipline was evident at the beginning although we gradually got better.

JT probably does have 2-3 years left at the top but putting his body on the line so often for us is starting to take its toll and the same with Lamps. Lamps mopre than JT was hardly ever out injured but its becoming more frequent

Like I mentioned above, injuries have started to creep into his game more and more often. Your right though however that that comment was based on consistant rumours and very little more than that but I personally think he would be a strong candidate for the MLS. Can't see him anywhere else in this country other than maybe with uncle harry, but I doubt he would do that to us

 
Just focusing on the current squad, I'd wager a guess at one of our other CB's: Ivan, Luiz, or Cahill. The latter two still need to show that they are good enough to be on the pitch every game (which I think they will) and all three would have to become more commanding, but I think they are some promising candidates.

That being said, none of them will probably end up with it, because I am usually wrong. :smile:

 
Nathan Chalobah will take JT's place in the team and captaincy, and i am sure of that if he keeps progressing the way he is.

Im a big fan of Mata already but I think your right and wouldn't command the respect like JT does.

I know I'll probably take this back but my first choice for our captain would always be an Englishman, as would my choice for England manager, but much like the England manager job im not sure there's an englishman good enough, especially in our current squad

 
It's Luiz for me, from the first time i saw him play he looked like a leader. I thing its quite telling that his performances have come on so much since JT has been out

 
A lot can change between now and whenever JT hangs up his boots, but I'd agree on Luiz. He seems a likely candidate at this point. Hard worker, good attitude, etc.

Plus his Messiah like head touching ritual with Torres gives him an invincible air...

 
Agree with barak, Luiz is a leader and i cant see anyone else with it really. Mata leads with his play, I dont think he is one to be vocal, grab the team by the balls and literally drag us over the line like terry has been able to over the years.
