Pep Chavarria

Isn't there a hefty tax associated with buy out clauses with Spain?
Was changed awhile ago. In the old system the player had to pay their release clause, then recieve compensation from the buying club. That compensation was therefore treated as personal income and taxed at the top income tax rate.

Clubs have to pay 25% corporate tax on transfer profits. Spain changed the rules to allow exemptions for certain football clubs (no surprises who) but the EU ruled it as 'state aid', so now all clubs pay the same corporate tax rate.

Welcome and Good luck Pep

Is it just me or does he look like the spitting image of Neto?

Could cause absolute havoc on the pitch with the concussion protocol

Pep Chavarria just might be the calming influence on our defence, a bit of composure and experience when he gets his feet under the table.

Nice little engine on him but overall quality in both ends of the pitch just seems lacking. Still better than Hato though.

And miles better than the feckless Gusto.

I don't even know what feck is but I do know that Gusto has got feck all of it

Ultimately cost us the game. Meant to be an experienced player and his decision to shoot when we outnumbered Brentford then lead to their next attack forming a corner and goal. Shocking decision making.

Come on that's a bit of a reach. We had 25 crosses, completed 2. Rogers, who I rate, disappeared in the second half. Neto fking tried to blast the ball through three defenders rather than a sideways pass for us to shoot.

Even the chance you mention for Chavarria, I don't think either Rogers or Palmer were truly clear of their markers.

What ultimately cost us the game, imo, is having 3 rubbish CBs on the pitch at the same time.

I agree that it was a horrible decision, but wouldn't say it was the reason why we got demolished by Brentford today.

He was, in my opinion, one of the very few positives I can get out of this game.

When we are as sh*t as we are, any sniff of a chance we have needs to be taken or at least the right choice made. I was fuming when he shot that and didn't even have time to calm down because Brentford scored directly from that.

You've every right to be mad, but ultimately if we're conceding from a corner coming from the other side of the pitch because our LWB decided to take a chance then our whole team is a mess (and it is).

Yeah I’m sure Palmer would have won the header if he’d chipped it back post…

Thought him and Barco were ok overall, feel its a little harsh to blame Pep specifically for their goal for shooting when he did, in which case case could equally blame either Henderson or Neto for not tracking Schade from the throw (who made the cross blocked for a corner)or Fofana for conceding the corner.

I think at the end of the day goal is down to not dealing with the ball at the far post and the goalscorer having a free header in the 6 yard box.

He was good and one of his crosses found Rogers only for his shot to be blocked by a Brentford defender. The play some are commenting, he could only have passed back as his other lines are covered by their defenders.

If we switched to a back 4, could Hato and Pep cover the LB position adequately over the season? In games we need a LB to get forward, he'd be a good option.

I'm not going to blame him for the goal, but there was certainly more he could have done here. Saying he couldn't do much but pass it backwards makes it sound like a negative, but from this position, it's a positive. Rogers is running towards goal, so Chavarria could have passed the ball between Rogers and the Brentford player. This would give Rogers a free shot at goal or even open up the space more to pick out Palmer or Neto. Chavarria could also try a cross through the Brentford players legs to pick out Palmer who is free.

He had better options than taking a shot.

i didn’t mean it as a negative but as a response to those saying that he should have chipped it to Palmer. He had many of the forward lines closed down by their defenders. Certainly back to Rogers was a good option but he was running already and getting ready to shoot when Rogers appears there. And to say that he’s at fault for the goal is a stretch. Also, he had many good crosses to that point. In my opinion he had a good game, he’s certainly a good option there.
