This isn't a thread on how good of a season our players have had its on how good of a signing they are in hindsight.

We aren't rating the player we are rating the decision to sign them

 
In terms of their value for money:

Eto'o: 10/10

Schurrle: 6/10

Willian: 4/10

Schwarzer: 10/10

Matic: 7/10

Salah: 7/10

In terms of their actual performances:

Eto'o: 6/10

Willian 6.5/10

Matic: 8/10

Schurrle: 6/10

Salah: 5.5/10

Schwarzer: he's played a handful of games.

Well the original post says "Only worth doing for players that have appeared for the first-team in a reasonable number of games", which makes rating any player who hasn't appeared much, such as Marco Van Ginkel, redundant.

 
Schurrle for 18.7m - 7/10

Schwarzer for free - 7/10

Willian for 30m- 5/10

Eto'o for 2m - 7/10

Matic for 21m - 8/10

Salah for 11m - 6/10

Overall, very poor purchases apart from Matic, would have loved to kept Mata and not have bought Willian.

 
Schurrle for 18.7m - 7.5/10 - Great potential

Schwarzer for free - 7/10 - Cost us at Sunderland, but good otherwise

Willian for 30m- 5/10 - Works hard, runs a lot, but hasn't shown me too much that says he is what we need. For £30M we expect A LOT more. Cant seem to pass or shoot too well...

Eto'o for 2m - 6/10 - Scored some big goals at home, did little elsewhere

Matic for 21m - 8.25/10 - very solid, usually excellent - a step in the right direction

Salah for 11m - 3/10 - lots of pace and that's about all we have seen so far. Time will tell if he improves

Schurrle for 18.7m - 7/10 - scored some nice goals but sometimes disappears in games. Needs to learn to score outside London

Schwarzer for free - 6/10 - done well when asked. 

Willian for 30m- 8/10 - good defensive work and adds urgency on the right wing. Needs to contribute more goals though

Eto'o for 2m - 7/10 - scored some important goals but has faded towards the end of the season. Good whilst it lasted.
 
Matic for 21m - 9/10 - great addition to the squad and can only get better. City performance was worth the money alone

Salah for 11m - 6/10 - not bad but hasnt really been able to show what he's made of. More of a signing for next season than this season

 
I'm with Lane.

Willian has in large been awful. We didn't buy him to track back...well at least I hope not.

When you spend 30 odd million on an attacking midfielder you expect goals and assists...he's been woeful on that front thus the 5 rating.

 
schurrle 18m 6/10- average season

willian 30 4/10- i was disappointed when we went for him in the summer, he has never done anything in his career to justify a 30m price tag (barley an international cap and never achieved high returns in a very weak leagues). The signing stank of an abramovich buy (little coincidence that we bought two anzi players when romans friend and anzi owner needed the cash). In all fairness he is a hard worker and defensive asset, however for 30m you expect a hell of a lot more.

matic 21 7.5/10 did well in most games, but being ineligible in CL limited his usefulness this season, should be really good next year

eto'o 2m 6/10 good value for money, however if his arrival meant lukkaku forced a loan, his signing may be slightly regrettable.

salah 11 - 4/10 not seen a lot of him, it looks like a panic buy and maybe we could have used the 11m better in the summer.

Overall our transfer business was disappointing. Just to think if we used the 18m & 30m from the schurrle+willian transfers on a world class striker and also just kept Mata I think we could have been PL champions

 
Schürrle 6.5/10 - A mixed bag. Clearly a natural finisher, perhaps the most clininal that we have at the club aside from Eto'o. Can strike a ball very well. I like his workrate and the directness he gives to our game. However, he needs to work on his overall link-up play. Very inconsistent thus far, but I like his skillset and think that he's worth persevering with.

Schwarzer 7/10 - Has done what was asked since Cech's injury. Should have done better with the Wickham goal, but overall a decent effort.

Willian 6.5/10 - His workrate has been terrific, particularly out wide, and his link up play with the other AM's has been very neat at times. However, we spent £30 million on Willian and therefore he needs to score more goals and more importantly come up with more assists next season. Next year is a big year not only for the club but for Willian on a personal level too. I'd like to see more of as the no.10, he seems to do more damage there rather than out wide.

Eto'o 7.5/10 - Exceeded my expectations by a long way. Clearly can still finish but sadly his best days are well behind him. All in all, for a player nearing retirement, I think he did everything he could this season. Scored some very important goals, and overall I think he's been the most successful of our signings over the course of the season. I don't think he'll be here next year, which, despite his successful contribution so far, is for the best.

Matic 7/10 - I'm a really big fan of Matic. He adds a lot that was missing from our midfield - power, tactical discipline, strong tackling and size. I still think he can improve on his passing, particularly in terms of finding the incisive ball. Has been a colossus for us in the big games, watching him mug off Yaya Toure was a particular highlight for me this season. If he had been with us from the start of the season I'd give him an 8. Now we need to find a natural passer to set the tempo alongside him...

Salah 6/10 - Similar report to Schürrle - Inconsistent so far, but clearly has talent. Absolutely rapid and can finish too. I think he could be a deadly option for us away from home next year, particularly in the Champions League. Looks to have some trickery as well, something that we lack outside of Hazard. As with Schürrle, lots of potential to work with.

Still this? Etoo was on a free and why wouldn't we just let Willian go to spurs if it was just about giving the anzi owner money?

I get the Willian criticism because i feel myself he should contribute more in terms of goals and assists. However i still feel he has played well for us this year and also i believe he has the ability to start scoring more and making assists that's why i don't think he has been a poor signing. Salah is different, from the little we have seen of him I'm still not sure if he has the ability to do this, He seems quite erratic. Lets hope they can both improve next season.

 
Difference is Salah didn't cost £30 million.

For that price you expect a world class player, Willain is miles and miles behind that.

Salah so far is what I expected for a small fee, he's scored and set up a few and looked rusty, he's younger than Willian too so has time on his side.

I've been hugely dissapointed in our Brazilian, as an attacking force he is no better than Moses.

 
Willian: 8/10, Great technical ability, vision and attitude and consistently one of our better players. Gets around the pitch a lot and seems to be involved in everything when he's playing. Will be criticised for not scoring enough but he's never been a prolific goalscorer.

Schurrle: 7/10, Has blown hot and cold but has a great eye for goal and his work rate has surprised me. I prefer him on the right of the three AMs (with Willian in the centre and Hazard on the left).

Salah: 6/10, He's actually been involved more than I thought he would and appears to have a lot of potential. A very exciting player to watch but has a lot to learn at this level.

Eto'o: 7/10, He seemed to take a while to settle in but gradually improved and started to look a very useful player until he got injured. Wise, canny, and confident and our best finisher by miles, if only he wasn't 80 years old. Wouldn't mind if he stuck around for another season depending who who else we buy/sell in the summer.

Schwarzer: 7/10, He has proven to be a very astute signing. I'd be very happy to have him as a backup goalkeeper again next season.

Matic: 9/10, One of those rare occasions when everybody knew he is exactly the sort of player we need and we go out and buy him. Our new midfield enforcer.
