Arguably the biggest influence on rock n roll and pre-1990s pop music.

As Satriani said, his spirit of adventure and innovation will be sorely missed in more ways than one by the music world.

Sorry, i should just point out something else- it was Les Paul's work on the amplified electric guitar, not the development of the electric guitar, that was his biggest contribution to music.

Yeah, iirc he was the one who made it into a full-bodied beast rather than a hollow one. RIP
