Robben

IMO you are really underselling robben, just, but you're entitled to your opinion. I'm just happy with him changing cup finals and being a general threat.

Just as Marco van Basten said before Germany 2006 - if he (Robben) can just stop getting injured, he'd be one of the best players in the world.

That sums it up for me.

I agree with Just...Robben needs to start doing it consistently.

Without doubt, he's our biggest "creative", attacking threat (and by creative, I mean more in the "creating" sense than in the "wonderful myriad of solutions" sense for he's quite the one trick pony). Having him on the pitch and not having him on the pitch makes one heck of a difference, and in that respect I'd be pretty distraught to see him leave. But consistency is not part of his game right now, and injuries aside, he needs to begin putting performances together on a consistent basis. He is a really important part of our team.

I'm in two minds about his defensive responsibilities though. Considering how easily injured he is, I tend to get really worried when I see him attempt to put in a challenge. Joe Cole was able to beef up considerably, but then speed is not his most important asset. I don't know how such an approach would affect Robben's game.

If Robben can regain match sharpness AND keep fit for the rest of the season, he WILL be an important part of our drive for success though; of that I am certain.

I'm getting a little tired of the "choker" formation myself.

Cheers,

Butch

It doesn't even "choke" very well. The opporsition just go out wide to release the pressure when being pressed.

@JUST

this comment is a bloody joke imo

Robben won us the game yesterday!! I don?t call winning the game decent. If Joe would have done that you would not finish praising him here.

You are soo Joe Cole biased, everyone can see that and it sucks.

Robben scares defenses to death, he changed the game against Porto and the CC final. And when he is marked out the game its because teams double up on him which in turn creates space for others.

I would like more consistencey from him of course, because he has the ability like Van Basten said to be one of the best in the world.

If the club were to even cosider selling him it would be a sad day for CFC. Imagine having to play the 'choker' formation all the time.

No thanks.

Robben is a very frustrating player - just as many have been before him. We all know on his day he can be brilliant and he can be a match winner, but that day doesn't happen anything like as often as it should.

I've already posted elsewhere my view that he did help turn the game for us on Sunday and if he hadn't come on I really don't think we had enough

to win the match.

He CAN be a match winner but if he wants to be one of the best, he has to produce a lot more regularly. At present he cannot possibly be compared to Ronaldo who has been brilliant for Utd ALL SEASON.

GB, you accuse Just of Joe Cole bias, something I have been accused of in the past. Perhaps that's because we have seen Joe really make the effort to improve his all round game whereas Robben's game seems to have stood still - perhaps even gone backwards? I'm not turning this into another Robben v Cole thread as my ideal starting line up would have them BOTH starting every week. I really cannot face the prospect of the "death of football midfield" we've had to endure for much of this season.

Shocking. Robben is way better then Ronaldo. few months ago everyone critisied Ronaldo for playing crap. Only because he in on fire at the moment it doesn?t mean he will play like that for ever. Robben played very good on several world cups and european cups for the dutch now. Won?t say that about Ronaldo. If Robben wouldn?t be that injury prone/unlucky he would reach his form of the first season at chelsea. Robben setted up both important goals vs Arsenal and Porto and he played very good at all. I don?t call that a frustrating player.

sorry, but that's just wrong.

GB, I do admire you sticking up for Robben but

Serious case of blue tinted glasses there!!

If ever Robben starts terrorising defences week in week out, can show that he can use his right foot as well as his left and score a fair number of goals with his head then I might come back and take you seriously. Until then.................................

Just been listening to talksport - And Robben has been saying how Jose should have started with him , whine etc.

whine? he's totally correct.
not nesacerily,

It was always going to be a case of arsenals kids coming at us with everything for the opening part of the game. And they where always gong to wear out quicker than us. I personly think a fresh robben in the second half was perfect to give there tired kids the run around

Maybe if he stayed healthy longer than one match out of five, Mourinho would think of using him more often.

For someone who missed more games with injuries than any other Chelsea player in the current squad he sure likes to moan a lot.

like it Just! He's probably heard your opinions by now anyway as you go on so much

Robben can act like a spoilt kid at times and to moan about not playing when he tweaked a hamstring last week is a bit petulant....my sympathy with him is that he must look at ballack being picked no matter what and be annoyed cos he contributes more to the side

Have to agree there.

Frankly, if Robben could stay fit and show any measure of consistency in terms of both his commitment and level of performance, he'd pick himself

I think the only opportunity for Robben to start is when Maka get rested and we are switching to 4-3-3 with Lam-Bal-Ess in midfield and Rob-Drog-Shev in attack with Mikel and Kalou on a bench, providing place for a good "plan B". And when all "untouchables" are on fire I can`t see Robben starting.

I agree he a great attacking option, but uncostistent and poor defending. And with him on a board we could evade some poor draws, lacking firepower, but also could achieve losing some points, when they weren`t lost.

Controversial nature....

I agree a fit Robben gets in the team ahead of Ballack at the moment, but considering his midweek injury and the way he can change a game when he comes on i think Jm was justified in using Robben as he did from the bench.

If Robben stays fit though its only a matter of time before he breaks back into the starting 11.
