Sarri

The British media are going strong, on the possibility that Maurizio Sarri will become the new coach of Chelsea for the next years. This is no longer an indiscretion, therefore, but a negotiation that is taking shape and that could be defined as soon as possible. Having said that the era Conte is in the finishing line, Roman Abramovich would have identified in the Naples coach the man to whom to entrust the new cycle that will start from next season. A project that in addition to providing for the achievement of some important goal, should also include greater quality in the game. With Antonio Conte won a Premier League last year, but has never been enchanted by the attitude of the team: he also wants the show and was entranced by the work done by Sarri in the three years of Naples.

CONTACTS - With the English club is holding the Neapolitan technician Alessandro Pellegrini, who has already met some emissaries of Chelsea to check if there are the conditions necessary for his client to move to England. In fact, the discourse linked to the rescission clause remains open: Aurelio De Laurentiis will not make any discount. And we're talking about 8 million, an important figure but not so much to scare the Chelsea magnate. Before any other decision Sarri will have to meet the president of Naples and, perhaps, inform him of this English contact. In addition, it seems that the coach has alerted some of his staff on the need to learn English quickly, a language he knows well for his previous banking activity. If everything was confirmed, then you will not even need to face the topic related to the revision of the contract, especially the economic side: the coach has asked 4 million per season, De Laurentiis is still at 3.5 including bonuses. But this is not the real obstacle.

COMPETITIVENESS - It is on this aspect that the two have divergent ideas. Sarri wants targeted purchases, which guarantee him and the team greater competitiveness both in Italy and in Europe. De Laurentiis, on the other hand, wants to insist on young people, invest in them and then regain future sales. Sarri should strive to make the most of the workforce, to give more opportunities to those who usually sit on the bench on Sunday. What the coach did little or nothing in these years of Naples. All speeches that will be addressed, in any case, only when the championship has issued its verdict. Having said that the ranking leaves little hope for the Scudetto to Napoli, the president has decided not to disturb the work of the technician. Until the arithmetic will not close the account-ranking, there is

HEREDITY' - The toto succession has been open for some weeks now. The sensation that Sarri leaves at the end of the season is strong in the city. In practice, the coach will have until May 31 to exercise the right of withdrawal provided for by the clause. The other hypothesis, very remote, is that both De Laurentiis to dismiss him and, then, in this case he will have to pay his trainer a penalty of 500 thousand euros. The most common name is that of Marco Giampaolo, a Sampdoria technician, who has been linked to the Dorian club for another year. But in the same agreement it is expected that if the coach were to get offers from more prestigious clubs, the company would free him. The character Giampaolo likes a lot to De Laurentiis and he also likes his football, very similar to that of Sarri. There was also talk of Unai Emery,

if sarri does come what would the tem look like? particularly defense? he tends to play a 4 3 3 with a high defensive line which of our current cb fits the bill?

Rudiger as a big mobile defender with good aerial strength would get in, Dave at RB, but that's it.

It would surely be:

Azpi  Christensen  Rudiger  Emerson

Then midfield consisting of:

             Kante

New Midfielder   RLC?

The a strike force of

Bailey?    Morata/Bats   Hazard

What do we reckon to this?

If quite excited to see if he can get us playing like his napoli side. We have been an up and down team for 6 years now, so I think a change in direction will be refreshing.

If he does come, then surely the key signing will be a central midfield playmaker. I'd love jorginho to come with him, but I can't see us being able to attract him.

I think sarri could work with players we already have on the books to implement his tactics.

A ball playing centre back, and another winger, preferably a left footer, would be ideal, but not necessarily vital, as long as we give him a couple of seasons to overhaul the playing style.

Under Sarri, our starting eleven could look a bit like this. (433)

Courtois, Willy & Eduardo should be relatively unchanged.

Azpilicueta could fill in the role of Hysaj who is predominately the most defensive fullback in the Napoli side.

Christensen could take on the more defensive minded calm role that Albiol does and Rudiger whilst not on the same level as Koulibaly, has the physical assets to match. Koulibaly was relatively poor before Sarri came to Naples.

Emerson would be our Ghoulam. (Alonso would become our second choice left back or even perhaps sold if Sarri came in due to his physical deficiencies and lack of awareness on the ball.

Kante would be an much improved version of Allan, the ball winner with a decent passing range.

Fabregas (whilst I think is past it) could become a new player under Sarri in the same role as Jorginho. Whilst he's not as athletic as Jorginho, he's superior on the ball in my opinion.

This is where we may need to dip into the transfer kitty as neither Bakayoko or Drinkwater are anywhere near the level of Marek Hamsik and even if they were, it's not in their nature to play the role that he does. Can Ruben fill that role? We can only see.

Insigne, Mertens & Callejon are all GOOD but not GREAT players. The common denominator that has turned them into goalscoring machines is Sarri. Mertens alone has scored 45 goals in 70 appearances in the last two seasons compared to 17 in 97 before that.

Imagine what he can do with the likes of Hazard, Willian, Morata(?), Martial/Bailey (if they come) who are all vastly superior players.

hey guys,

I think we can agree that the Jorginho position is the most vital part of Sarri's team. I would love it if Sarri brought him along with him, but in case he didn't who do you guys think would be an ideal player for that position.

Since its only speculative lets do a dream signing/ realistic signing

Mine would be Pjanic or Vidal/ Kovacic or Weigl

Pjanic---> this guy is literally a polished Jorginho but a long shot considering how vital he is for Juventus

Vidal---> his work rate, leadership, and merely his presence in midfield next to Kante makes me salivate, but I'm unsure if he is cut out for the Jorginho role (with Goretzka coming in the summer, Vidal may be available and picking him up for 40M or so would guarantee at least 3 years of midfield domination)

Kovacic---> I think this guy is someone that Sarri can mould into that role, and if Courtois goes to Madrid it would give us a good chance of picking up a 2nd string midfielder that will not likely see regular first team football for at least 2-3 years.

Weigl---> This guy is a younger version of Jorginho with all the attributes, and from what I can remember I think he played a similar role under Tuchel and he excelled immensely. With so many midfield choices for other teams to go after I think we maybe able to get Weigl without much of a bidding war if we go in for him early and include a loan deal for Michy.

Well those are my thoughts, what do u guys think???

Sources in Italy claim Maurizio Sarri’s representative, Alessandro Pellegrini, has met intermediaries acting on behalf of Chelsea to discuss the possibility of a move, and the Napoli manager has instructed his backroom staff to start learning English (Standard)

Roman Abramovich believes Maurizio Sarri would improve #Chelsea’s playing style significantly and has made him his top managerial target. [Gazzetta dello Sport]

Feel you've basically nailed this

I'd like to see RLC in the role Hamsik currently plays for Napoli, I feel he'd eventually thrive in that position, Barkley would be decent backup

We really wouldn't need a complete overhaul to our side. I'd be mainly looking for a deep lying playmaker and another attacker, also if Koulibaly becomes available then I feel we'd need to take a serious look at him

One of the thing that excites me most about Sarri is the effect he could have on Hazard. While Hazard has been exceptional for us since he joined every Chelsea fan feels he could do more, Sarri could be that manager that helps elevate him to being one of the best attackers in the world

I think a lot of people may not have watched enough of Napoli to know how his teams play and perform so I decided to post some videos up for anybody to view.

On the idea of our players being incapable of adapting to his methods and that they need too much time to be implemented, we can look at how he transformed Napoli to see that is not true. Before he became their manager, Napoli had Benitez as their boss. They were not that good the season before and came 5th in the league. The season Sarri took over they came 2nd and much improved in all aspects. Since then their points have increased every season and they have changed from the pragmatic defensive style of Benitez to the attacking positional play of Sarri without any dip in league position. Their players are not better then our players individually by the way, they just have a very good collective.

Season before he took over:

6. Napoli P:38 W:18 D:9 L:11 GF:70 GA:54 GD:+16 Pts:68

His three seasons so far:

2015/16

2. Napoli P:38 W:25 D:7 L:6 GF:80 GA:32 GD:+48 Pts:82

2016/17

3. Napoli P:38 W:26 D:8 L:4 GF:94 GA:39 GD:+55 Pts:86

2017/18

2. Napoli P:35 W:26 D:6 L:3 GF:71 GA:26 GD:+45 Pts:84

Here is a highlights video of their team play last season:

i'm pretty sure that napoli had, this season anyway, one of the best defences. there seems to be this misconception with areas of our fanbase that just because he's a more attacking manager, means he neglects defence. you can concede goals being too defensive, but then you don't create enough. as they say, if you don't score, you don't win. there are more than one way to win a football match, but i personally feel the way we've played these last few years under mourinho and conte can only work for so long.

how many times have we watched games and we've looked shaky and on the verge of conceding or have conceded goals after taking the lead? i have been stressed out watching us many times the last few years because we play on the edge so much. if i knew we were going out to kill off games and go for the jugular from the off, i would be so much more confident, especially with some of the talent we've had and got at our disposal. would absolutely love to see what hazard can do under a coach like sarri considering he's only ever been coached by conte and mourinho. if he stays that is.

Lots of rumours about Sarri today, saying that he’s now the number one choice instead of Enrique.

Must admit, I don’t know anything the guy. Part of me thinks he will be a better choice than Enqriue who I have my doubts about. I’m dubious of ex Barca managers.

I’m quite happyto trust the club, they normally don’t get managerial appointments wrong.

Questions for people that know more of him:

1. He hasn’t won any trophies, is he the same as Klopp and Poch? Beautiful football but lacking that killer instinct?

2. He’s 60, where’s he been?

3. What’s he like working on a tight budget? Can he make the most use of players?

Have you seen Napoli play? In particular against City...
No I have not seen his team play. Don't really get the chance to catch many of our games nevermind other teams.

Normally juve, inter or ac tend to snap up the best of seria a unless sides with more money beat them too it. Has he managed any of them before?

Managers can't seem to win.

They overachieve at clubs with small budgets it's "show us your medals" yet if they win with a giant it doesn't count because "anyone could do it".
True previous success can mean zip all. Avram grant nearly won a cl. Robbie did.

60 seems a big step for a new league, new culture, new career move for him. Maybe he has the energy and mentality to pull it off though.

Not really a new culture for him, he lived and worked in London previously.

De Laurentiis on Sarri -

What I do believe is that at the start of the season we had to begin training early because we were in the Champions League preliminary round and we just ran out of fuel.

“It’s inevitable, unless of course you use all the players that you have in the squad…

“See, we could’ve had a breather at certain moments of the season, to better prepare the sprint finish. But if we always use the same players…

“Basically, if we hadn’t had injuries like the one to Faouzi Ghoulam, we’d never have discovered Mario Rui who, apart from the catastrophic errors against Roma, has been very good. But if you always use the same players…”

1. He hasn’t won any trophies, is he the same as Klopp and Poch? Beautiful football but lacking that killer instinct?

He's never really managed a top club that was expected to win trophies. Napoli is by far his biggest job and he took a team that had finished 5th under Benitez and turned them into challengers playing high energy, slick attacking football

2. He’s 60, where’s he been?

He's managed in Italy's lower divisions for a while, he took over Empoli in the Italian 2nd division after they had finished 18th, within 2 seasons he had them promoted to Serie A while again playing great attacking football.

3. What’s he like working on a tight budget? Can he make the most use of players?

This season Napoli only spent around 20 million on new players while Juventus spent around 150 million Euros and AC Milan spent around 188 million Euros. He converted Dries Mertens into a false 9 and in the last two seasons he scored 55 goals in 92 games, Insigne went from being a good player with potential to one of the most feared attackers in Italy under Sarri and has scored 47 goals in the last 3 years. The likes of Ghoulam, Koulibaly and Jorginho have all grown into top players under him

At Empoli Sarri played a 4-3-1-2 formation and changed to a 4-3-3 false 9 formation at Napoli so he's shown he can be flexible when needed
