Sergio Aguero & Diego Godin bids

I just don't see how this is true. Surely Athletico would not have turned that down?!

Stunning headline though! Takes me back a few years...

 
Release clauses can only be triggered by a fellow league club. That valuation is meaningless to us or I am sure we wouldve just gotten the one player.

As it is, I really dont believe it either. 52 million for one player who is rated at 38, and another 24 year old CB, when we have a deal for another CB almost tied up.

These European clubs are so absolutely full of sh*t sometimes. They are clearly trying to create a bidding war like Iceman said. Again, why the hell would we want Diego Godin.

Guys, i dont mean to be a jerkoff, but please dont get too excited, because I think this is just the Athletic brass peacocking for everyone to try and jump start their season.

 
If Luiz is coming then I really can't see why we would go for Godin. He's a good defender whom I really liked during the World Cup, but we have JT and Ivan with Alex returning and Luiz possibly coming. That really should be enough. Even if we want to strengthen the squad I really can't see us spending loads on a player who will be backup for the backup.

As for Aguero, now there's a player we really should try to get. But there's still be problem with the wages. If I recall correctly we were close to getting him awhile ago, but in the end we couldn't accept his demands. His wages would be way over the likes of JT and Lampard and we couldn't accept that.

And we already have very high wages for such a small squad and have just got rid for a bunch of players to lower our wages. Would we really agree on paying Aguero like £200.000 a week? Or more?

And wouldn't his wages mean that Terrys and Lampards wages would rise as well to make them the top earners at Chelsea?

I'd love to get Aguero, but I really can't see us getting him :(

I dont agree with 200k, but I think at a certain point you need to have high wages to get big stars. Or else you end up like Arsenal, selling everyone who turns into a star because you have a system in place and thats that.

The problem is when you cant lure anyone in unless you pay them over the odds. We dealt with that in the past, and city are dealing with it now. As a club we really shouldnt have that problem anymore. But if we were to get Aguero, I fully expect us to pay him at least what JT, Frank, and DD make.

Hopefully this is the last.

The club should come out and deny it if it isnt true. It hurts our bargaining position with Benfica to know that we were are haggling over hundreds of thousands of pouds, and we just offered over 50 million in what looks like some kind of sneak attack bid. What are they gonna think? That we dont think their crown jewel player is worth half of what Atl Madrid has got?

it is understood there is no truth to Miguel Angel Gil's assertion that the Barclays Premier League champions attempted an audacious double-swoop for the duo in the past week.

Chelsea refused to comment on the claims, a spokesman saying tonight: "We never comment on transfer speculation, no matter how wild it is."

However, it is understood the Blues made no attempt to sign striker Aguero or defender Godin.

Gil also claimed he turned down a £39 million bid for Argentina international Aguero from city rivals Real Madrid.

He said: "In the last week, we have received two offers.

"One from Real for Aguero for 45 million euros and the other from Chelsea for Aguero and Diego Godin for 60 million.

"Atletico have said no to the two offers because they believe in these two players."

Chelsea have previously been linked with Aguero, 22, who joined debt-laden Atletico from Independiente in 2006.

Sounds like one big porky pie, silly money, Aguero is a good player but not worth half as much as his release clause.

 
So the director says the offer was made last week, and then starts talking about the future of the coach and how he believes in the players. Yes, sounds nothing like a propaganda move at all.

Glad the telegraph sussed that out, and im glad the club took the line they did.

General: half as much as the release clause? Gah, I bet teams would be lining up to pay that man

Is that true? Im sure when we were linked with Barcelona they were always talking about Chelsea triggering his release clause as well.

I'm a bit confused. I thought only foreign clubs could use the release clause. (Anyone played with a Spanish club on FM?)

Also, he says they turned down £39 million from Madrid when the release clause is supposed to be £38-40 million?

Seems like extreme desperation on our part if its true , otherwise its just athletico's desperation
