Sevilla v Chelsea (CL) Wed 2nd Dec 2020 20:00 GMT

I'd be tempted to rest Chilwell here after he took that knock against Tottenham. With our lack of centre mids (at least until Gilmour is ready to start) and depth at centre back, I wonder whether it's worth reverting to a back three for this game. Reckon Lampard is willing to allow Alonso back into the fold?
I’ll be very surprised if Alonso is ‘back in the fold’.

Not the best possible scenario for the game. Players have the luxury to think about the result. It is always good to have the pressure on.

Anyway I am thinking CHO and Pulisic start. Mendy, Azpilicueta, Rudiger probably all start. Kai will probably start as well. Maybe even Oli.

Mendy

Azpilicueta - Silva - Rudiger - Emerson

Havertz - Jorginho - Mount

CHO - Giroud - Pulisic

That midfield seems a bit light. Anyway I feel Frank will stick to 4-3-3 from now on and whatever lineup suits that we will have it.

Would love to see Gilmour have a go as well.

I feel like we might lose away to Seville even with our first choice 11, it's not the easiest of fixtures, so may as well rest most of the team, as we're through anyway.

Kepa

Azpilicueta   Zouma   Christensen   Alonso

Kovacic   Jorginho   Havertz

Hudson-Odoi   Giroud   Pulisic

While it's important to rest and rotate players, I would heed caution against wholesale changes... Sevilla are a good team and at home...we need to win the group (assuming other top teams win theirs) and this game is effectively the decider...so I would go with...

Mendy

Dave Zouma Rudi  Christensen Alonso

Kante Mount

CHO Giroud Pulisic

It's a match under great conditions!

We win - perfect, we're first.

We draw - still really good, we only need to recreate Seville's result on the last matchday in the arguably easier fixture.

We loses - we're second, but at least there's nothing to play for in the last game, so players can get some rest.

However I don't agree with the notion of 1st or 2nd making no difference this year. We can enter any fixture with a broad chest but right now it doesn't look like there will be a single non-English group-winner that we'd be considered favourites against, with the possible exception of Group B. I'd much rather go against Porto, Lazio, A**x/Atalanta... because I believe that's the best way for our young team to become gradually more Champions League experienced and competitive.

Finish top of the group and we get one of these...

Atlético Madrid,

Salzburg,

Borussia Mönchengladbach,

Shakhtar Donetsk,

Real Madrid,

Inter Milan,

Porto,

Atalanta,

A**x,

Borussia Dortmund,

Lazio,

Juventus,

PSG,

RB Leipzig.

Finish 2nd and we get one of these...

Bayern Munich

Borussia Mönchengladbach,

Shakhtar Donetsk,

Real Madrid,

Borussia Dortmund,

Lazio,

Barcelona,

PSG,

RB Leipzig.

Tough call, gamble or stick.

So you want to guarantee a loss?

About the same for me. We can beat anyone on our day, apart from Bayern probably. I really don't care if we finish 1st or 2nd, although a win tonight would be nice.

I honestly do think no matter who we put out, it will be a tough ask to beat seville and especially away. However, I wouldnt want to risk facing barcelona as bad as people seem to think they are, and esp bayern munich. we need to win the group and guarantee a much larger chance of facing a team we can beat in the next round.

i know players need a rest but win or draw here and then we can think about resting players for krasnodar. we wont have any champions league until February and and we are out of the league cup, so is it really worth risking this game, and then getting bayern next round and then all of us wondering why we took the risk.

I wouldn't rest anyone for Sevilla, though would look to against Krasnodar.

I think we need to need to keep that winning or at least not losing feeling.
I would rest Werner. Start CHO and then Pulisic again in the second half.

I hope Lampard doesn’t start Gilmour. He’s been out for 4 months. Starting him away at Sevilla is a risk

TBH I don’t expect an away win today, I’ll take a draw but hopefully not a loss. More answers when we see line ups in 1/2 an hour,

SEVILLA INJURIES -  think a couple of these are top players for them.

I have a thundering Zouma header in the second half in the club's Prediction game. Zouma had better be on the bench  :shok:
