Funny game that one, watched the game from near the front of the shed for some reason, and blame the view for my lack of knowledge of the game, if I remember we had two injuries in first half, think it was Kerry Dixon and Colin Lee, so had to play whole second half with 10 men, I didn’t have a clue we had 10 men until I got home to await the piss  take from all the armchair Liverpool fans, it was then I was told we had 10 men, I couldn’t blame it on the beer either as was only 16!!

Watched that game on you tube the other week, John Motson mentions that Chelsea have over half the support in the Stadium

Yeah correct Kerry Dixon was replaced as early as the 8th min by Paul,Cannovile.

Then Colin Lee went off, so we were down to 10 men for the second half.

David Speedie had a goal disallowed too.

Remember coming home from this game, and having been to the Liverpool game 3 days before as well, seeing us knocked out both cups and thinking f**k this sh*t! 36 years later and sill haven’t learnt

Thought we were going to win the FA Cup in 1978 after beating Liverpool at The Bridge in the 3rd Round.

Another 19 years would pass, before we would win it again.

Still say the two pre seasons I was most excited about were 83/84 and 84/85, THAT  team

Sat 8th Feb 1986.

We went down 1-4 to Oxford Utd at The Bridge.

Our scorer was John Bumstead in the 63rd min.  The game was watched by a crowd of 16,181.

Duncan Shearers second and last game for us, while it was John Millers debut !

If this was on the go back then. The Match Thread would have been in Meltdown Mode !!

We are still 3rd in the table.

We don’t play competitively again in the League, until Sat 8th March v Man City at The Bridge.

A snowy winter stopped play.

Yet our next match is a friendly just along the road from me v Glasgow Rangers on Friday 14th Feb 1986.

Friday 14th Feb 1986 and we play a friendly just along the road from me v Glasgow Rangers.

We go down 3-2 on a freezing cold night.

The floodlights went off in part of the Stadium I’m sure from memory.

Our scorers were Keith Jones and Nigel Spackman.

A crowd of 17,512 watched it.

Really angry this and the Leicester home game were played. The club advertised fans to help clear the terraces and pitch of snow and ice in return for a seat ticket! I got up there too late help and ended up sitting in a cafe down the Fulham rd having a fry up!!

The Leicester game had Kerry out injured, Speedie was suspended and Joe Mc Laughlin injured. I think it was all about having money coming in during a bad winter. Unfortunately 1 point out of 6 was a bad return for these fixtures. The two games to watch were awful as well.

Great night even though we lost. One of the coldest nights I’ve been to a game! The journey home was long as well!!!
