The German website which ran the story is not a mickey-mouse one, it's the site of one of the big two German TV stations.

I heard on 5live what he was alleged to have said, but the page with the story on isn't working now, which suggests that the website suspects the story is complete bollox and has removed it.

Is the link working for anyone else?

The link's still broken, but the rest of the ARD site works perfectly. Have done a search on their site for their 'story', but the Sheva one doesn't come up - nothing on Chelsea since Ballack's winner v Porto.

So I think my suspicions are correct - they've pulled it because it's a fabrication.

According to the Guardian, they have temporarily pulled it for 'checking'.

In other words, it's not true.

I hope the writer gets his balls nailed to the wall by Chelsea's lawyers, maybe they would be a little more careful about the **** they print if we go after them once in awhile, especially as this story can be proved to be untrue.

Sky Sports still keep the story on their site.

flying high, up in the sky, he'll keep the pitchfork flying high, tabloids leaving him trembling, waving his pitchfork in the sky...

BERLIN (Reuters) - German state TV broadcaster ARD said on Friday it was withdrawing an interview with Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko in which the Ukrainian was quoted as sharply criticising the English club's coach, Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea said earlier on Friday that the interview, posted on ARD's sports news web site (sport.ard.de) on March 5, was "a total fabrication".

A spokeswoman for ARD said it was withdrawing the interview for the time being for checks.

The interview had been done over the telephone in Russian and there had apparently been problems with language, she said, adding that an internal investigation was continuing.

Shevchenko said in a statement on Chelsea's web site at http://www.chelseafc.comhttp://www.chelseafc.com the interview was "complete rubbish".

"I have never spoken to this German web site or to the journalist who claims to have interviewed me," he added.

Chelsea said they and the player were considering what action to take.

The once-lethal striker has struggled since moving to London from Milan in May 2006, scoring only three goals in 25 league appearances, six of those as a substitute.

Laughable and disgraceful that this made it into print. You expect it from the Mirror or Mail etc but not from a top German broadcaster.
