Shirt sponsorship

Makes our 10 year £300m agreement look a bit sad by comparison but further proof that the concept of FFP is completed flawed.

A club with no European football has just secured the World's biggest kit deal and just began their £53m per year shirt sponsorship deal.

That means for the 6 years where they'll have both the Chevrolet and Adidas deals they'll be earning £128m a year on those two deals alone.

That's 8.2 Wayne Rooney salaries per year.

Chelsea and Real Madrid will not be happy. Expect some corporate fireworks.

In an ideal world now either us or real should now get nicked by Nike.

But wont happen as Nike already has Barca so wont get real. We are tied up with Adidas till 2023 so nothing much will happen for a while.

bloody mancs...

Not a lot we can do about as we have a long deal with Adidas now, I would expect Real to demand a similar fee.

Not sure we can convince Adidas to do the same. But yeah we are now way too far behind United in terms of these 2 shirt deals. We get what, 48mill in comparison? So just over a third compared to them.

If we are tied to this Adidas deal til the end of its contract, then gourlay or whoever secured it, need to be held accountable.

Yes United are a bigger club, but for us to be earning less than half from the same company is extremely worrying.

Hopefully there is some sort of clause that can see us re negotiate, or break the contract, after a certain amount of seasons, because £450m is a massive amount of revenue.

I would expect Utd to make a hell of a lot more money than us though in merchandise so it stands to reason that their deal will be a hell of a lot more than ours.

The Mancs sell a shed load more kits than us, hence the deal, however that said, the majority of their fan boys are plastics who don't speak English and will never see clean running water or electricity in their homes, let alone Old Trafford.

Nah, those are all fake kits. Walk the streets of Kuala Lumpur and one could pick one up for about 50 Ringit which at the time was about $15. However both Manchester clubs shirts were being worn by everybody while I think I saw maybe one or two Chelsea shirts. Just not on the same level as United, Real, and Barca, not yet anyway.

Agreed they sell more kits, but they have been putting out feelers for about 9mths asking for £100m a season. Gourlay screwed up massively by using the Arsenal-Puma deal as a yardstick for our own deal. Samsung will never use Nokia numbers, you wait and see what numbers the market leader (Apple) puts up. He could have stalled and seen what deal Utd is offered by any sponsor before signing a new one. The next big club signing a sponsorship deal will be looking for numbers closer to the Utd one, and as it stands the Arsenal-Puma 7year deal is a better one than ours.

At the time we were signing a PL record high deal.

How can he have screwed up for not forseeing united being offered nearly twice as much as Real Madrid???

It's his job to know the market, im sure we could have pushed for 50m, or 30m and a 5 year deal.

Although no one is privy to the exact terms of our contract, so I guess they is still some hope we can earn a bit closer to our rivals.

What the f**k am I reading? Shove your xenophobic bullsh*t back where it came from.

Where is this Apple sponsorship coming from? They simply do not need to spend hundreds of millions to have their logo on a t shirt. Frankly it flies in the face of their company culture. Apart from their own ingenious marketing, when has Apple sponsored anything apart from Apple.

It be a complete turnaround amd one more than likely shrugged by Apple users and certainly Apple shareholders to foolishly throw a nice sum of money at football team shirt sponsor deal. It be money wasted because everyone knows their logo and product and they know this.

His point wasn't about apple sponsoring anyone.

He meant Samsung looks at Apples figures, not nokias (or any weaker brand). Compared to us looking at Arsenals shirt deal to see what we could get and not Uniteds potential deals.

Either way its only half right anyway because we also probably compared to Real Madrid who are a huge brand.

Adidas are buying on speculation knowing full well success on the pitch is likely and therefore Utd's stock will rise. They would have seen Aon's success is doing the same thing post-Vodafone.

Its an absolutely huge deal. How on earth are they going to make money from shelling out £53m per season just on United alone? I'm sure somebody somewhere has done the maths - if not someone is getting the sack.
