The club will look like mugs if they sack him. All this talk of long term and sack him 4 months in. Why would any other manager believe us?
The club look like mugs hiring him. Better managers than Potter will always come for the big money. Better managers than Potter would have come for a third of what we gave him. Why we felt the need to offer him £12m a season for 5 years I'll never know.

Manchester United are showing the difference a proper manager can make, do we really believe we should be finishing 20 to 30 points behind them after we comfortably finished above them last season and outspent them in the summer? If Potter had taken over United in the summer they'd be 10th now and we'd all be laughing at them and saying they need to clear out deadwood like Rashford and Shaw

This is the most horrible season one can think of: We will finish somewhere around tenth place, Arsenal will win the title, ManU are back in business. So I really don't care, this season will be total sh*t whoever is in charge and I'm afraid we are starting to fall behind in the longer run as well.

He's pushed forward two clubs. That's his history.

Whether he can do it a third time is what's unknown.

Not many managers have done that. Most keep clubs around the level they are used to.
He didn't take over a lower end team that should be happy once he finishes top 10, he's now a manager of one of the top teams in whole Europe! Why should our ambitions change suddenly after we have been the team that has won so much silverware? Because of Potter himself? That's basically proving that he's not the right man for the job.

Took Ostersund to European football even beating Arsenal, built a shocking Brighton squad into a team that now challenges to European spots. If anything he's shown in his career he's exactly the man to help us rebuild, even if that's just for a couple of years until another manager comes in and takes over.
Solskjaer came back to Molde, won the clubs first two league titles in history and built a club that has since been the best in Norway. Also took the club to the knockout stages in the Europa League.

Moyes took Everton from the dumps to Top 4 contenders year after year.
Hodgson took Fulham to Europe and a Europa League final.

Are they going to be our options when Potter leaves?

Just because you have done well at much, much smaller clubs doesn't mean much at all if you can't cut it at the top clubs.

Why would they pay when they can get him for free in less than half a season...? You're epic mate!
Why has no one ever tried to pay since he's been here? If he was good enough people would offer a premium to beat the competition and get him 6 months early. Similar to what we apparently want to do with Thuram. Really not a difficult concept to understand. Thanks for agreeing no one wants to pay for him though.

Cause that's how football works? Big teams get to keep their players if they want, we sold anyone that we didn't want to keep or at least sent on loan. It goes against common sense to pay for someone that you can get for free in 3.5 months, get a grip mate you're losing it...

Utd bought ETH Casemiro, Martinez, Antony, Malacia, Erkison and now Weghorst. Outside of Weghorst they're all nailed on starters that the manager wanted.

Who have we signed that Potter wanted so far? Terrible example.

Doesn't change the fact no club has ever once put a bid or even shown interest in him.

Back to the previous point and 4th time asking now, who do you want to replace Potter?

Suddenly we're to believe that doing well in Swedish football is what we're looking for?

Juventus did if we are to believe the rumors, so once again you proved that you know very little about football.

Why do you and so many others keep acting like Potter in backers think we've changed our ambitions downwards?

The whole point of everyone who is backing Potter is because they've raised their ambitions upwards. Up from being a club that might be able to win a cup and can sneak top 4, to a side that can win the league.

If Potter isn't showing he can do that by the end of this calendar year I'll be right with you.

The fact you'll include Weghorst that hasn't even played a minute this season and are ignoring we spent £60m on the best performer Potter has coached in his entire career in the summer is crazy.  Neither Antony or Malacia are even starters and he lost his only striker.

I thought the whole Point of Potter was that he improves players and doesn't need to spend big money, Isn't that supposed to be the takeaway from his achievements coaching 1 legged Swedish eskimos in the Swedish 4th tier? That the quality is so low but Potter can improve players and get his methods across.  If that's the case why is the whole squad regressing to 1 legged eskimo tier at a rate of knots?

If we were looking for a manager to back with big money to consistently win games and trophies we should have hired a manager who has a record of doing just that.

You tell me, wasn't me that went for Potter's history as the first thing what makes him good for us for the future, if you tell me that's the whole point then he still has no real sign of being a good enough manager for a top club.

I don't see any guarantee that he can build a team right now, let alone win the league. Those things are all piping dreams...

I didnt interview the bloke or get recommendations, but by all accounts he knows what he's doing and he has a history of working in a club that needs total rebuild from the ground up. Which is what is happening at Chelsea. It requires a manager with patience and calmness in the face of fire.

I'm not certain on Potter, I would have expected to see more in the short term, and I'm worried about his teams ability to get a team firing in the final third, but he's a manager whose stock was deseverdly on the rise and everyone in football knew his next job was going to be a top 6 side.

I'd add, broadly in the history of football elite managers have a life span of about 10 years with few exceptions. They run out of steam or ideas by that point and the game moves on. Klopp is hitting that wall, I think Pep will too. Jose hit it a few years ago.

So if we are looking at who the next crop of elite managers are, so we can bring in someone with fresh ideas and who would be working with the wider club to transform, and making that decision in September, Potter was the most likely candidate. He was this forums preferred choice for a reason.

We made that decision, I think he's got 3 or 4 games now to turn it around personally, lose 3 the next 4 and he's out, fair. Those are winnable games with this team. Muddle through the season and finish 10th, then he's got til Christmas to have us competing for top 4 and then finishing top 4 by end of season.

Season after that, we have to be title contenders or he's sacked. We've not sacked anyone for that reason for a long time. My ambitions for Chelsea are higher than being a top 4 side who does well in cups and rotates managers every 18 months

Why does it sound like there is this whole ideology suddenly about this apparent need of a total rebuild anyway, I don't believe such dramatic things are really necessary at all.

We have had a good academy and we have had a decent top 4 squad for years, to forget about all that and to not use it as a foundation would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater wouldn't it?

I remember when Sarri was appointed that there was this whole idea to stop being this counter-attacking team and to play how the big teams play without parking the bus, apparently Roman always wanted that and even some guy came here and said how Sarri is a great coach and how he uses even drones during training sessions to explain and see better how when and where things are happening... I wish you could tell me at the very least that Potter is a good coach, or a great tactician, not just this whole blind hope that he'll one day become elite.

So far Potter's build for the future includes only Joao Felix which is a 4 month loan without the option to buy, so that's around 10-20m wasted, if we see it from that whole perspective of totally rebuilding. That is unless he has big plans for Casadei and Santos.

Anyway if he fails to bring in the right people in the summer, someone else will continue that project instead, he already had a weak start and it won't be long till it's very obvious that he's walking the tightrope, it's one thing to have a plan but you can't ignore that at the end of the day you either win matches or lose.
