So, just got off the phone with Bobby Tambling...

Brilliant, Gem! A wonderful start to the day. I look forward to seeing the picture.

I'm sure Val will be delighted to be cast in the same age bracket as you moi!!!
Yes, being aged 20+ years was the best (worst?) punishment I could think of for her disparaging comment on Dorset's posts - in the Mony A Meikle Maks A Muckle thread.

Well, I've always gone for younger men, whatever my own age

Gem, you've acted as if you speak to Chelsea legends on a daily basis, haven't you?

Christ, someone must be chopping onions near me coz the whole of SB singing "one Bobby Tambling, there's only one Bobby Tambling" has gotten me slightly teary haha. The main man looked thoroughly overwhelmed, what a legend.

I know how you felt. I remember the Zola farewell match.... looooooots of onions, there should be a law against it.

Mascara running time, was it? Looking forward to seeing your pictures, Gem!

A very emotional half time. Bobby was very moved by the reception he got. I was proud to tell the guys around me about your effort with the Shed End card Gem. I hope your day was a memorable one.

Outstanding!

Well done Gem!! Love hearing about the warm reception Mr. Tambling got at the half-time, too. It's gratifying to hear that he appreciated it.

This has to be the best thread going in this forum right now.

Two other pictures from halftime - the first one you can see his wife getting extremely emotional with the applause/chats he was getting. At one point he too had to stop mid-sentence to gather himself because he was becoming to overwhelmed with the support. Before the game he reiterated that the 'Chelsea Family' meant so much to him and he had no idea he was still well thought of around these parts. He said my card made him realise that he is still part of this club and the reception he got at HT I think has confirmed that to him.

His wife by the way - extremely lovely and the way she spoke about him - absolutely besotted and very much in love, was wonderful to hear.

PS - sorry for the sizeness.

That half time speech was so full of emotion and the love from the stands was a joy to behold. I was emotional at Zola's last appearance but this was on another level. The bit where Bobby had to stop and gather himself brought an amazing reaction from the entire crowd as everyone to a man, woman and child stood to applaud him. I feel proud to have been there to share that moment and even prouder to have been part of this group who played a part in brightening the dark moments Bobby went through whilst in hospital.

Of anyone finds video of this, I'd love to see it.

"Sizeness" no problem.

Gem, that's a fantastic piccie of his wife getting emotional. Nice job!

I'll post a more detailed (but hopefully not too long/boring) account of our 20 minute chat etc tomorrow.

A quickie - the first thing he said to me is 'that card is never, ever, ever going away, it will stay up so everyone can see it.'

... surely that makes me an artist? I mean how many other people can say their artwork is up in people's homes???

It's just remarkable to me that a man who played for Chelsea for 11 years and is the club's all-time leading scorer hadn't realized how highly fans think of him. I suppose he left the Blues a long time ago, some 40+ years. But still. He's Chelsea's all-time leading goal scorer. Maybe it's because his teams "only" won the League Cup?

I must say, Chelsea's official website does a very poor job with his biography. Not even a mention of his goal record.
