Nor do we lack the goals of a Johann Neeskens [if Frank stays] but what is missing is a Dennis Bergkamp type to both score goals and create for others and that’s glaringly obvious. Even if he stays, Didier does not fit the bill in terms of the way he plays, neither does Anelka and, in my opinion, neither would Huntelaar, despite his impressive work ethic.

I take it you are still annoyed we didn't snap up Tevez when he was on offer this time last year. I know I am. He would have fitted the bill perfectly for this.

Yep, took my fair(?) share of stick for posting regularly on that one, Tom, and every time he has netted important goals this season I’ve had to bite my tongue and just think of what might have been. Singing the praises of Berbatov since has often got me a similarly cynical response, but will I learn? Oh no not me... on and on I’ll go until he is inevitably driven into the arms of a knight in shining red armour and then we’ll see that team of his lining up with the most creative attacking force seen in the Premiership since….well, err, last season.

I don't think we are falling into that trap.

The fact is if we lose Drogba we will need a new striker - possibly even two new strikers. Berbatov would fit the bill nicely if you ask me, and if both us and United were in for him, I would hope we would use our financial muscle and outbid them.

It would be a different story if, lets say someone like Gattuso came up for sale and Man U were in. We don't need any more central midfielders, so I doubt we would even look at him - I'm sure we would let United get their man.

Whoever it is we need someone prolific next year. It was sad last match when Drogba, Malouda, Cole, Lampard, Shevchenko, and Ballack were all pushing forward constantly; along with runs belletti and cole, and still we could only manage that one shin-shot goal from shevchenko which came off a corner even still (i think).

I know that after the goal we played defensively but it took a while to get a goal, and against bolton.
