So Rosberg has retired from f1...rightly or wrongly, two things will increase because of this in the eyes of many...firstly it makes suspicions over how Mercedes helped him win it even stronger and secondly) it makes him even more of a fraud of a world champion...either way, by not defending the crown, even if it is to supposedly spend more time with the family, he will be remembered more for that than winning it at all

 
"I won, I'll never win again, so I'll quit while I'm ahead" .

The sport will be poorer for it but hey, if he wants to go out on a high...

 
He even said 'I don't want to come Fourth in the title race now I have won it'.,just shows his thinking...no true champion, who should think they're the best after winning it, would think that way...only someone who knows they got lucky would think so negatively...I'm not convinced Mercedes didn't know of his plans either...the way they were barking instructions to lewis in the final laps on Sunday was Ott...

had to laugh as when asked about it, lewis said he wasn't susprised he quit cos its first time he's won anything in 18 years...(clearly suggesting he too thought it was a one off as well)

 
All this talk of luck around Hamilton is extremely ironic, if Massa's engine hadn't of died three laps from a win in Hungary in 08 Hamilton would only be a two-time champion.

Delighted by the news that Bernie has been forced out of his post. He has recently been selling the sport to the highest bidder and to me has completely sucked the soul out of it. He should of gone years ago and is a good move by Libery in my view.

In fact, the article below looks very positive and the 'key findings' from Liberty seem to echo my frustrations with F1:

  • The revenue system is skewed in favour of the already rich and powerful, to the extent that the smallest teams are struggling to survive and money is tight for about half the grid.
  • There is a lack of competition on track.
  • Television audience figures are dropping in many markets - although this is largely because of a switch to pay television, to make more money from TV rights deals.
  • The longest-standing races are struggling to fund themselves and risk dropping off the calendar
  • The decision-making process is not working properly.
  • Some significant business and sporting decisions have been made for solely financial reasons, disregarding other important factors, such as their effects on the sporting side.
  • An acceptance that F1 has lost some of its appeal, particularly a sense of edge and drama and as an extreme driver challenge.
I admit that I've totally lost interest in F1 in recent years. The change of engines haven't been a good move in my view (even if I understand the reason why, we have to move with the times) and the top teams have too much power. To me it's almost gone in the way of the Bundesliga or Serie A, where one team is guaranteed to win almost every race (and subsequently the title) with the rest lagging miles behind. If Liberty can distribute the funding more evenly so the races become more competitive then that would be a great thing for the sport and turn it into the 'Premier League' that we all know and love.

The future looks bright to me and I do hope that Liberty can turn F1 back into something I'd want to tune into again and not switch off after three laps when I know that Mercedes, or Red Bull before them, are going to storm into a huge lead and win yet again.

A possibility that the British GP may not be held at Silverstone after 2019. If there is to be a British GP after then I hope that it will be Brands Hatch - where it's been held in the past - as that is not far from where I live. Purely selfish reasons on my part. Brands is a great circuit.

Monster pole lap by Vettel in Singapore. All about damage limitation for Hamilton/Merc starting in 5th.

Big win for Verstappen in the final Malaysian GP, nice to see Red Bull beating Mercedes on merit/pace. Shambles of a weekend from Ferrari, DNS for Kimi and Vettel having to mount a recovery drive starting from 20th.
