Ironically, one of the first things the first Black President will do after winning the elction, is attend his white grandmothers funeral.

 
Mike O, shouldn't he start of with sorting out the economy? The other things are very important too but let's face it, the economy is worse than bad right now.

My list would look like this:

1. Fix economy

2. Fix the wars

3. Fix environment

 
problem with us politics more than any other is that it's based on image rather than substance...obama had one saying 'change' and had the money to broadcast this message more than mccain...the latter came across as a miserable grandpa and was unable to shake off his connection with the worst president ever in george bush...obama talked a good game, but now he has to prove he can actually play one...if nothing else he must restore the US' image abroad both for economic and political reasons

Must say that yesterday's loss in Rome was somewhat made better by Obama's win.

Really happy that something good has happened on this other side of the Atlantic.

 
How can you be so morbid Gemma?

Surely today is a day to enjoy the fact that a nation that attained its wealth and power on the whip-lashed backs of enslaved africans has overwhemingly voted the son of a Kenyan into their highest office. After today Obama is absolutely fair-game for criticism (but not murder!!), but today I appreciate the extraordinary efforts of the many now and before who made his election possible.

 
Really glad to see Obama win, it wasn't a great surprise. McCain and that twat Palin were not fit to run a local pub, let alone a superpower. I just wonder how long it will be until there is an assassination attempt on Obama.

 
Like most I couldn't care less, all I know is when I went on xBox live this morning, there were British people making fun of Americans because there country is run by a......

You can figure out the rest.

Why would you take the piss out of America for voting in a black president? They voted him in.....

No no, don't think i'm a racist mate i'm saying thats how I found out he became president because of what was being said this morning. If you ever played on xBox live you'd be in for a shock at the things that are said.

And no I don't care. It's certainly not something i'd stay up till 4am to see, unlike the boxing next week. Politics is all crap to me and it's the president of a foreign country.

 
I'm on XBox Live regularly ;)

Politics may be crap to you, but it's the policies of America which will affect the rest of your life. The global recession is down to America. Our country will continue to play little brother to the US. I wonder if the families of the British troops killed in Iraq care about US foreign policies - they're the ones dying in Iraq rather than the ones in Rainbow Six or Halo

I don't play either of those games, i'm more of a Fifa and PES man myself. ;)

And I still don't care about US polictics, i'm 18 and in university, i've bigger fish to fry ;)

So you're reading for a degree in fish-frying, are you? Will you learn to make chips as well, or will that be your postgraduate degree? You'd then be able to put the initials B.F.C after your name.

Obama is against same sex marriages and apparently there was quite a few states that banned same sex marriages in the last election.

Obama might, or might not, become a good president, but the gay rights just took a huge step back. :rolleyes:

Why? As far as I know Obama has been quite a vocal supporter of gay rights throughout his political career - in fact it was this that caused a number of hardcore Christians to abuse him at every turn (live and let live eh, bless that Christian hypocrisy)

Just checked what you said and it appears that the swedish media I read didn't tell the whole truth.

Obama does support gay rights it seems. He thinks gays should have the right to adopt children.

He is against gay marriages but he's for civil unions. Since he's christian he think marriage is between a man and a woman.

So it seems he's not as bad as I thought. Should teach me not to trust media and check information twice :(

No what I mean is that the whole reverse-discrimination "empowerment" human bloody rights thing has gone too far. Taking employment as one example, employing or promoting on the basis of fulfilling a quota - so many from this minority, so many from that minority - is as bad as refusing employment on the basis of creed, colour or sexual orientation/gender. I'm not in favour of same-sex marriages either, but that's a different issue.
