Welcome Lesley Ugochukwu

Hmm not sure what I make of our transfer strategy currently. Time will tell I guess but all feels very scattergun… again. We have spent about 80m-100m on prospects again this summer? None of which are lined up to help the first team. Could this not have just gone to the main player we want first and foremost? (Caicedo)

Even if some of these 25m players play well in France, who buys them for much more than that when we can’t make room for them? No one has money apart from prem. Seems a flawed plan to me.
As already been said, different budgets. What I spend in the bar makes the same amount of difference to whether we'll sign Caicedo or not as the youth budget does.

Don't believe it for a second. Anyone credible who's reported that?

Certainly counts in terms of FFP so to say it doesn't have an effect on first team additions is wrong either way.

It does make me laugh that we view our guys as emerging talent specialists finding all of these pearls in the back of beyond. We're paying 20m- 30m a time on unproven kids that haven't even played real senior football. Of course we are signingbtgem, we're paying 10m more than anyone else is interested in paying

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu. The deal is for a permanent signing. Chelsea have reached an agreement worth around €27.5m for the 19-year-old. A medical is scheduled for the next 24 hours.

And to make it worse, we are selling CHO a proven champions league player for £8m???? Something really wrong with our strategy

We've literally just turned down that offer.

A proven champions league player ?!?! Have you not seen Callum play the past 3 years ? Does 3 goals in the champions league group phase makes you a proven champions league player?

Yeah because Santos and Gabriel were going for £5m to other clubs 🙄. What some of you lot need to realise is this isn't 2003 anymore where top young talents are going for £2m and a packet of quavers

This continues to be a fascinating approach by the current hierarchy. Is it official policy not to sign anyone past puberty now?

Brighton have literally signed Caicedo, Mitoma, Gilmour. Ensico, Bouanotte for less in total than 1 Lesley in the past year or two.

Who knows what we are doing but it's certainly not the Brighton MO.

Okay, so the counter argument to that is who are we outbidding then. This latest signing played in 26 matches last season in Ligue 1. 1,328 minutes. His Trasfermrkt value is stating €9m. These figures are always low, but we paid what €25m. Apparently there were other clubs interested, Apparently. Did anyone else bid for him?

You have to take the Transfermarkt valuations with a pinch of salt as they are based only on opinions of users of the web site, and not defined by any sort of algorithm, or other logic.

Having said that, we are definitely overpaying in this instance, as in many others, and we're also selling cheap. Not great negotiating tactics in my book.

This Lesley chap (why am I thinking 'Benidorm' LOL) is going to cost only £1.5m less than we got for Kovacic if all these numbers are to be believed. Crazy !

CHO is on massive wages with 12 months left. We either sell him cheap, or try get more money and the have to subsidise his wages for a season.
