I agree.  And I like the way topics meander off topic - you never know what's going to be within!

My thinking is the government pay benefits to people who are underpaid because the company's they work for cant afford to pay massive wages.

Anyway.......this is a thread in general cfc so lets not turn it in to a political debate!!!!
Off CFC topic (sorry): you do realise that when you say "the government pay benefits..." it means "everybody who pays taxes pays benefits..."? The government's money has to come from somewhere. Just thought I'd mention it.

If someone works full time then they should be paid an amount that they can live on regardless of whether their work is considered skilled or unskilled.

I can understand Cfcstevens pov regarding small businesses but at the very least for me big companies such as Amazon, Starbucks, Mcdonalds, Sainsburys, Tesco (all the supermarkets actually) to name just a few, should be paying people a living wage. These companies make billions and choose to pay low level workers the minimum whilst hiking the wages up exponentially for upper management and corporate positions. Add to that a few of them don't pay their taxes in this country which they get away with which only adds to the wider issue.

As others have alluded to paying people an amount that makes them dependent on benefits just puts the strain on to everyone else who is fortunate enough to be payed an amount that affords them the ability to live independently.

Sorry for the slightly off topic post.

I just got sent (and have signed) this petition to encourage Richard Scudamore to make the Premier League an accredited Living Wage employer. It would be great to see more clubs follow our lead, especially when you consider the massive increase in income that PL clubs will see as a result of the new TV deal.
