What happens after JT?

I am also in the 'not keen on keepers as captain' camp. They are too detached from the play and the captain has a certain role to play with regard to the manager and also the ref.

I don't see Ivan as a future captain. He has a quiet determination but seems to focus largely on ensuring he plays well (that isn't meant as a criticism) without needing the distraction of thinking about how the team is playing around him. Luiz is probably always going to be a defender who makes a handful of rash mistakes a season and that counts him out for me as a captain needs to be able to demand authority through his own performances as well as a degree of authority.

For me Cahill is the most likely of the current squad.

There are no characters here at mo who can play like JT or command the sort of adulation he does. The status he aquired was by being Blue from boy to man.Every step of his rise up the chelsea ladder to the top was LOYAL BLUE..Big money moves waived...Lampard is close for the Status but also only has a couple of years left...We have to hope a young Mccreachran(?) can grow into a true iconic leader of BLUES

Cahill or.....................Mata?
Ding, ding, ding... Mata, for me will become our Captain wearing the armband. Pure class, loves London, and after one year seems to be Chelsea through and through! By the time he is 30, we will be putting up with the greats!

too late for lampard, too early for chalobah (who seems trusted with an armband in nearly every team he plays in)

considering i expect terry to play for another 3 years or so (not starting, but still being "captain") i wouldn't be surprised, and would be ecstatic, if david luiz had become such a part of the club as to be able to take the role on

Do you think that chalobah will still be at Chelsea by the time JT retires? I think like most youth players he would have moved on to get first team games.

Cahill or Ivanovic for those already on people's minds. But in my perfect world, and for our future...

Sam Hutchinson.

He has it in him I feel, and if he can stay fit and get into the team regularly, we have our "next JT." Love watching him play.

I really hope it works out for him but we will have to wait and see if he can cope with playing the amount of games that we do. I guess King at Spurs is the captin so it could happen.

Don't think Sam Hutchison is good enough for chelsea. He was a decent prospect before he had to retire through injury. Really nice lad though and terribly unlucky, I believe last season's inclusion in the squad was more down to him making up the numbers. Whether or not he goes back to working with the youngsters and getting his badges, or playing for the reserves remains to sbe seen. My guess is he'l probably do a bit of both but I'd be very surprised to see him play for the 1st team again.
