When did you notice it getting so expensive?

This is the main reason behind poor crowd atmosphere.
I couldn't agree with this more. I went to a game with my Dad over Xmas (he's overseas so hasn't been a regular since the early 80's), and he was astonished just how few twenty-something year olds you see having a drink in the pub/at the match. I personally weigh up the cost of each game and decide which I can and can't attend almost purely based on price. How can a student/recent grad/young professional expect to pay upwards of £50 to watch a home game every other week?! There's just no way. It's great to see 2 or 3 generations represented, but the distribution of age should be much, much more even, and that will only happen with cheaper tickets.

. Arguably the best atmosphere I've seen in recent years is the away match at Arsenal - £10/£20 tickets and a 9000 seat allocation meant that hundreds of loud, proud under 30's turned up and completely outsang the library. More of this please!

back in the late 70's £5 from Hampshire to Fulham Broadway. 20 John Player Blue, something to eat and entrance to the Shed up the stairs to the whitewall, take me laces back out from me gonads and put em back on, only for the old bill to nick em. Then delight at the end of the game for about 300 Skinheads fighting each other outside those awful portacabin bogs to get some form of laces to get home in (Happy days)

Realised My Chelsea had gone when sitting in the East Stand the evening of the Boro Cup final before a heavy night of it on the Kings Road, the ground, all change the players, the fans had started coming from China, Japan, Korea (local Chelsea Haunts) ? that's progress for you.

Chelsea fans now do not realise how Special it was to follow Chelsea. We  were, the only fans in the country where our own chairmen was trying to kill us, yet he wanted to take our money. We started beating Tottenham,

Thank You Chelsea I have and will, love you all my life and the great times. Getting hammered at awful northern towns like Rotherham, would not  change it for anything. Hoolifan describes exactly how it was for us and also describes the laughs we all had as Chelsea Fans.

Now we are the best in the world, what we always wanted, times change as long as we stay at the top that is all that matters to me. Sorry getting all sentimental. 96 was the stop year for me. Thought her indoors would not take to kindly to the old bill flying through the front door in the early hours.

Still have the last hurrah every now and then when the odd phone call comes in, though we are all dinosaurs who still think we are sixteen (long may it continue)

Blue will always be the colour.

I went in the Lilly before the west ham game. The general age profile was 35-55.I think we must have the oldest match going fans in the country.A bit off topic but i was impressed with crystal palaces support at Arsenal last weekend. Looks like they may have picked up a few of our priced out yoof.Proper passionate fans of an unfashionable club.

Nice post londons finest. We all loved our youthful times following the chels, and however sh*t the team were. The initial times will always remain amongst the best.I actually think we that started going after the 70s cup winning side broke up, have been the luckiest, because we have seen it all. From relegations through to premiership and unthinkable champs league success.I remember in 82/83 as a 17 year old on middlesbrough station, a freezing 1-3 defeat, huddled round listening on the radio to the FA cup draw. Huddersfiels away came out. whooppee f**king whoo you may think, another sh*t northern town in a season of visiting sh*t northern towns, but you know what? Dozens of us bouncing around chanting "Hudders here we come!" and we ment it. I knew i was hooked for life. For the record 4000 chelsea made there way to huddersfield, we drew 1-1 but won the replay and it was f**king lively!

Was a regular member at the bridge up to the end of 2003 season, saw the prices for next season in the programme when i decided enough s enough...it`s getting too much now to a watch footie match.

Only been back a couple or so  times since....i was there when we was s**t!

Met Bates a good few times was even in he's office before he was a nice enough man. Without him chelsea wouldn't be anymore so for that reason I'll forever grateful. My dad travelled over to Dorset with two of he's mates for a funeral Bates was there and gave my dad £100 to get a bite to eat. So he did have a nice side lol. I understand why people dislike but personally I like home he done a lot for our club. Remember the time maradona wasn't aloud into the east stand directors box because he had no tie. Lol. That was Bates he didn't give a f**k.

Started going to Chelsea in 83 - 84 season first game 6-0 win over Newcastle ( div 2 ) 2 pound entrance think next season went up to 2-50 the extra 50 was for save the bridge fund

Used to drive through our small cotswold market town on a saturday morning and pick up various mates some who came spur of the moment ( no tickets , f**k all ) drive to fulham road park up in side street 3 -4 pubs 8 + pints pay on door drive home !

Couple of the lads who used to jump in ( spur of moment one gooner & one whufc ) are still going to Chelsea 29 years later with 2 Champions Leauge finals under their belts and various wembley/ cardiff  cup finals not to mention Premership winning seasons !

Happy Days !

Remember as a 13/14 yr old going caddying on a Saturday morning to get £3 or £4 . Tube from Burnt Oak to Fulham Broadway (said we got on at West Brompton) 10p

In the Shed for £1.25. Enough money for a burger and 10 fags(since given up the fags) they to are too expensive now.

Only go to a few now due to money and commitments ,like everyone prefer the aways!

What chance a 14 yr old of going under their own steam these days?

It's mad isn't it, there used to be about 6 of us go, we were about 14, all with those tea cosy style Chelsea hats (remember them!!!). Get off at fulham broadway to go to match and then leggit to Parsons Green afterwards to try and get a seat before everyone else. Must try and root out some old tickets I've kept, see how much they were.

When I started going (late 60's) I recall that it no more than 2/6 might have been cheaper 2/-.

Prices went silly in the mid to late 90's and got even more stupid since.  Stopped going regularly a couple of years ago. Just take in a few away games now.

Not really interested since they treated a Double winning manager and Champions League winning manager with what appeared to be a complete lack of respect/decency.

My dad first took me to football in 1963 when i was seven. Thanks dad i owe you.It was much more affordable of course but i still go as much as i can and i still love it.Went yesterday with my 15 year old grandson(Chelsea nut) and we had a great day out.It was expensive but worth it to us.Its not life or death its much more important than that(some scouse manager said that about football, he wasnt wrong lol.

Bates was certainly a top bloke in my book. He paid for my mates defence when he was pulled out of the crowd for making a gesture at the semi final up in Sunderland (the hearing was just after Heysel but the barrister was top notch and the case was dismissed) and then several years later he overheard the ticket office manager refusing to take my cheque for 6 Blackburn away tickets(Zolas debut) and made him look are right mug by telling me he would take my cheque but not to let him down.

It got too expensive for me this season. I let me season ticket go having held it for a long time. Over the years I had gone from the MHL to the MHU to the Shed Upper and had a great seat with a good mate in row 5. Fair play to the box office when it came to deadline day a fella rang me up and asked if I wanted to change my mind and renew, but nothing lasts for ever and I have some different priorities right now. I realise I am lucky in that a good number of my friends and people I have go to know over the years, still have STs and I can normally get a seat off someone when I want to go. I was born close to the ground and like Hemel Blue my old dad took me as a very young kid in the mid 60's. I started going regularly on my own in the mid 70's, home and away, and a couple of my mates who I went with in those days still have STs and go regularly today.

It's stating the obvious to say that CFC and footbal in general are worlds apart to the team and game I grew up with. Some of it better, some of it worse. Having endured the sh*te years when being an avid Chelsea fan living in the gooner and Tottenham heartlands was literally torture on a daily basis, I feel blessed to have been there and seen us win practically everything and to have become one of the biggest clubs in the world. Last season really wounded me though. I felt the club was losing its soul and I had never felt more disconnected from the Chelsea I loved. Not through the Mear's sellout, not through the battle with Marler Estates, not through the crap years. Roman's actions did me in; the sacking of Di Matteo, the blatant favouritism shown to Torres and, the appointment of the FSW a personality I truly detest. For me it was all too much and I gave away my Europa League Final ticket. I was that demotivated with the direction Roman had taken us I just didn't want to go and truthfully, would have been happy to have seen Abramovich walk away then. Thankfully, he appears to have finally learnt and the reappointment of Jose, (he should never gone first time around), and Torres taking a back seat makes me think/hope Roman is prepared to admit he made some huge, huge mistakes and is now showing a bit of patience and leaving it to someone who knows the game much better than he ever will.

So, with the FSW gone, the return of Jose, and Roman being more hands off, I have feel we are turning a corner and I have regained some of my faith and passion but money and other priorities mean I can't go to SW6 as often as did. As I said, nothing lasts forever.

Remember 90p u16s 1977/78 season. £1.20 for adults ( I think) went up in stages, by 83/84 I think it was £2.50- £ 3.00 plus 25 p to transfer to the benches. Paid £6 gate 13 84/85. 85/86 first six games paid £10 middle tier. sh*t atmosphere back then!!! A shed season ticket was £120 so thought better of it and went back to benches and gave sitting on a lump of concrete ago!!! Think my first west stand s/t was around £250 in 88/89 that went up to £460 by 97/98 then over yo MH U to the grand total of £880 2010/11 by the way now that a certain Peter Kenyon has gone, be nice to have a certain amount of cup games included in S/t like we use to get! No chance I know.

when I started going it was either a trip to football or, for the same price, cinema for the afternoon ( and you got two films in those days ) , if you look at the cost difference between the two today that shows how expensive watching football has become

my biggest gripe with the club and the thing that pisses me off more than anything is that there is no recognition of how long you have held a season ticket .

You should get 10 loyalty points for every year you have renewed rather than starting at zero balance like everyone else
