Your First Ever Chelsea Game...

I was already well hooked when I saw my first Chelsea game in the flesh, That was at the local to me Palace way back in 69...Ossie scored 4 that day if I remember and I had a couple of mates with me who actually supported Palace :D Never got to the Bridge for about a year after and saw us draw with southampton.

67 Cup final to some lot who are holding the table up at the moment was a tv memory as was the 70 final and replay.

Its great to read this thread and peoples memories (nice one Steve)
Remember that Palarse game well, Chris, I was in the Whitehorse Lane End with all the Chelsea fans when the ref threatened to call off the game at half-time because the Palarse keeper John Jackson kept getting bombarded with snowballs :D I could have sworn it was a Boxing Day game, but I just had a look in my Ron Hockings bible and saw it was actually played on 27 December 1969 - we'd played Southampton the day before at the Bridge and beat them 3-1.

Classic line-up for the Palarse game: -

Bonetti, Webb, McCreadie, Hollins, Dempsey, Harris, Cooke, Hudson, Osgood, Hutchinson, Houseman.

Got good memories of that game - as you say, Ossie got 4, with Houseman getting the other Chelsea goal. That was a hell of a season!

Agree that there are some great memories in this thread - keep them coming, people! :128:

Boxing Day 1967 for me, a 2-1 win against Arsenal. Standing at the front of the North Stand in a puddle and barely able to see over the wall and through the poxy dog track fence. I can't remember anything about the match but the ground was packed.

Matches were few and far between in those days and the only others I can remember going to up until I started going on my own in the Mid 70's were Wolves, Morton in the Fairs Cup, Rangers in a friendly, Ipswich with Webby in goal and the 13-0 Junesse win but there must have been others.

back end of the 81/82 season, lost 1-2 to luton. then we had the worst season for years, perfect timing from my dad to start taking me fairly often. yet he kept at me and eventually i started enjoying it. not so much the football as the crowd watching.

Every summer holiday i came over to spend time with my family who lived in london( i've lived in holland all my life) but every time school began before the season started. "

But finaly in augustus 87 school started later and i was taken to my first chelsea game. Having looking forward to this from 83 onwards I couldn't wait. Going in to the fanshop, which was basicly a counter with stock behind it, felt like christmas to me.

Remember seeing a see of blue and everybody really upbeat for the season. We won 2-1 against wednesday but the season ended in us being relegated.

It was hard being a chelsea fan, living of few highs and many lows, but the people who said i was daft back then. congrats me now on having the staying power to stay blue.

It doesn't matter when your first game was, i am for certain once you've seeing chelsea live it will never leave your system!!! Watching them on telly and being a fan is great but to go to the bridge is magical!!!

The first time i was deemed old enough to go the the Bridge was on the 6th April 1996 and we lost 2-1 to Villa, i remember John Spencer scored for us, but the first time i ever went to watch Chelsea was away at Stoke City in the league cup in 95 and we drew 0-0

F.A Cup 3rd Round.

Villa Park.

Saturday January 10th 1987.

My first Chelsea game was away at Villa, freezing cold Saturday, game was'nt that good as far as i remember i only tagged along with my brother in law (lifelong Blue) for a laugh and a beer.

Ended up a 2-2 draw.

Chelsea won the replay 2-1.

First trip to the Bridge was the opening day of 1987/88 season on August 15th versus Sheffield Wednesday, Chelsea won 2-1.

Against Revie's Leeds, 27th March 1971. I started supporting Chelsea at the start of the 1967 FA Cup Final, like a lot of guys around my age. I took the black team and my brother took the white. Poor him. Anyway I was on a Jersey Schoolboys tour of England and we played a game in London, Brent I think it was. They arranged for us to see a game and I hit the jackpot. Leeds were flying high, favorites for the Divison One and we doing well. We all sat in the West Stand which I thought had only just opened but I think it was a few years old by then. Turned out to be an outstanding result. To be honest I don't remember much about the game but took in the players of the day. To see my heros, the FA Cup winners, play against basically the same Leeds side was something. I have mentioned before that I met Charlie Cooke after the game and had the pleasure to meet Peter Houseman down in Basingstoke. We played them and I believe the League was named after him after his untimely death. I picked up the match program for the Leeds game in great nick on ebay last year, just had to have it.

Chelsea vs. Bolton back on the 23rd of December, 2001.

Nolan scored early on and I thought "Oh god, just my luck." then we kicked into gear and took a 2-1 lead from Eidur and Jimmy.

Then in the 2nd half Zenden scored with a 25 yard lob, a Hendry own goal and then Lampard's first Premiership goal for us was a 20 yard belter!

Final score: 5-1 to the boys in blue!

What a game that was :D

Summer of 1999, Dennis Wise testimonial vs Bologna - I was 7 and went with my mum, grandad and dad.

I remember them telling me about Franco Zola as I walked down Fulham Road for the first time. ;)

Chelsea vs Southampton. 0-0. I was 6 years old. There was this nutter of a gramps behind me (legend) sayin random things like.. "C'mon u Blues!" in a class voice an there was "Pick up the pace, Desailly!) in the same class voice! Anyway, Zola should of scored about six!

My first game was in 1978 at home to Ipswich. I remember the noise of the crowd being very impressive even though we probably only had about 20,000 or so that day. We were trailing 1-0 and 2-1 to a good Ipswich team who went on to win the FA Cup. Eventually Chelsea managed to make my day by winning 5-3 thanks to a couple from Tommy Langley among others. I went to several other games that season including a 2-2 against United where they equalized in what seemed like the 10th minute of stoppage time (nothing much changes there). I remember seeing a massive free-for-all down Fulham road after that too. The following season I had a season ticket and we went down with something like 3 wins all season. But by then the damage was done and I was a Chelsea fan for life ;)

One other early memory I have was of my first game against Liverpool at the bridge in 78-79. We drew 0-0 at home and hit the post twice. This despite the fact that they won the title at a stroll that season and we were comfortably relegated. I remember thinking that the noise from the Liverpool end was a much higher pitch then the Chelsea end. Since most of the kids in my neighbourhood were glory hunting Liverpool fans I assumed that there were just a lot of kids in their end. Now I know they were just wailing scousers ;)

Chelsea vs Southampton. 0-0. I was 6 years old. There was this nutter of a gramps behind me (legend) sayin random things like.. "C'mon u Blues!" in a class voice an there was "Pick up the pace, Desailly!) in the same class voice!
I'm flattered that you remember me. Always instantly recognisable by my class voice me.

23rd October 1965 - Chelsea v Leicester - lost 0-2 - big gangly looking kid at no. 9, playing his first home league game. The current England no. 9 on the bench. Any guesses ? Yes it was the King and Barry Bridges. The crowd were chanting Bridges' name for the last fifteen minutes, wanting him to come on. That was a season where we couldn't win at home and had the division's best away record, winning about 11. Nothing changes, eh ?

I am embrassed to say that the first game that I attended as a supporter of the famous CFC was the Sheffield United home game a few seasons back :P The reason why that is is that I have not had anyone I could go with. However after my studies at Essex I plan to get to a few more games :(

my 1st game was the same as lofty.s,a 2_2 draw with man city around 1971/72.i think a bloke called wynn davies scored for city.

I haven't been to a game yet

Hopefully my first one will be this spring
