Are We Really As Big As We Think We Are

[Ballack & Blu]

Now we are getting to the crux of pre-season who and why are we going to sign such and such,is it just me or are we going to let the other contenders catch us up,go back six odd weeks we were linked to every "Stellar" player going,at this moment we have signed (Boswinga) & Deco who will improve our style of play no doubt about that, but what about "Scolaris" war chest and all the "superstars" busting to get to Stamford Bridge,may-be not,may-be we have scolaris requesite of top players,i for one am stunned by our in-activity whilst the likes of spurs and scouse re-group and plunder.

I think our inactivity is to do with the amount of players at our club.

I suspect Scolari feels he has to shift players first before lining up replacements. e.g. a new striker can't be approached if we have Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, Di Santo Sheva and Pizzaro at the club - a couple of those have to go first.

We've already spend 24million don't forget.

I am puzzled as to why people think we need to bring in a load of big money players. With the squad we currently have we got to the CL final last season and only lost the title by two points (and a lot of goals!). That isn't a squad in need of a massive overhaul. We definitely needed a more creative midfielder and we have got that and I am more than happy to get a new right back ( as long as it means Belletti's time is up). We will almost definitely be signing one more player, be that Robinho or AN OTHER and that other player will either be a winger or a striker. We don't need more defenders and we don't need more central midfielders.

So three new additions to a squad that was already very strong - sounds like enough to me especially when we see the likes of Di Santo joining up with the first team squad.

[Mr Chelsea]

maybe scolari's plan is to use what he's already got, dont fix whats not broken, just bring in a couple of players to tweak it a bit

Very true, but Kenyon has said it officially twice now that we are going to bring in one more player. I think after Maka, Sidwell, BenHaim and Boulahrouz (did I forget someone?) have left we are going to part with 2-3 players at least. Belletti and Pizarro are on the trigger I think.

Wheter we bring in Diego from Bremen, who was rumoured to be our safetynet if Robinho deal falls, or some other star I think Chelsea is going to keep hold on their plans to bring in one more.

The less changes needed the better we are. Scolari has probably realized that after getting to know his players there is not many changes to do. We have to realize that we still got most quality in our team in England.

Exactly. the squad was too big and deadwood needed to be expunged. A few quality signings would then be added. Sounds to me B&B like you have read to many tabloids that stated Scolari had a £100m war-chest and was going to sign all the major stars. That was NEVER going to be the case.

I think one (maybe two) more is all we need. Two if Drogba goes, which would neccesitate bringing in a new striker.

Also the European rules are getting tougher as regards to players you brought through from age 14. So a huge new squad would be great in the league but it would be kids for the Champions League!

[Elliott]

I agree fully in terms of us not needing an overhaul.

We have the quality right back we have lacked for a few seasons (hopefully), and we have the creativity in Deco that we have so sorely missed.

Another creative influence, possibly in the form of another forward (Which now look's like Diego), will bring a good balance to the squad, although i, personally, would bring in another Striker too: (Berbatov).

In terms of prestige, of course we are not quite there yet? Roman has only been at the club for 5 years, and it still was'nt too long ago that we were losing to the likes of Leicester at home, but given a few more years, i.e 5-10? we will be there.

As we are, we are still going to struggle to compete against the likes of Milan or Barca for signatures such as Kaka or Messi, for example. That's natural.

[Jimboola69]

Yeah. A Right-back was need and seeing Bosingwa in the Euro's and (briefly) in pre-season he looks a humdinger, good tackle, reads the game well and easily as fast as SWP. He may not be Alves or Ramos, but he looks perfect for our needs. Which is all that counts.

Funny, there was me thinking the question of the topic was posted by an invading Scouser. In which case the answer would have been "no". And even funnier, the other day, some Chelsea fan phoned Talktrash saying that Liverscum weren't as big a team as they used to be because they'd never won the Premiership. The presenters reactions were predictable enough;

"how dare you dismiss Liverp**ls" glorious hitory"

"typical Chelsea arrogance"

"just because you've having your moment of glory"

"if it wasn't for Abramovich where would you be now?"

And so on. Fact is, the f**kers never have won the Premiership; under the fat dodgy-bearded one they've flucked a Champions League, and in typical self-delusional Scouse-git fashion, they as a species, remain convinced that they are the biggest team, not only in the UK, but in the world, and in all probability, the entire universe. Oh and don't forget that it was the John Moores family (of Littlewoods catalogue infamy) who bought their initial success back in the '60s.

Me? I'm looking forward to yet another season when the bar stewards will be out of the title race by Christmas.

So what's your view on Chelsea FC?

[Lofty]

So what's your view on Chelsea FC?

Do you mean in respect to the current topic or in general? Literally "are we as big as we think we are" isn't one I want to get into. I've heard so much garbage spouted about the question of "what makes a big club" it's untrue. For instance "you can't really be a big club unless you've won the Champions League". Which would mean that Celtic are a big club but Rangers aren't. Which is bollox. Big and small are subjective, relative terms. To an Aldershot fan (went there once in a friendly and someone got stabbed, very strange), Aldershot might be the biggest club in the world, and Real Madrid an irrelance.

Or going back to the first post in this topic. I don't think we need to brink in a lot of players. Neither do I know what's been going on behind the scenes. Think back to before Scolari was announced as our new manager, all the bollox that was spouted, very often by people who should known better. It's the same with transfers. As for Tott*nham. I don't give a flying f**k what they're up to.

Generally? I'm a Chelsea fan, have been for over 40 years. What the f**k do you think I think of Chelsea FC?

Okay, this is the sort of answer i was expecting to see.

Again, quite aggressive....

Oh dear. Have I upset you? How the hell is it aggressive to say by those criteria Celtic are big club and Rangers aren't?

And what do you mean "again"? If you've got something to say just come out and say it.

[Lofty]

Okay, this is the sort of answer i was expecting to see.

Now to me that smacks (stinks) of hidden agenda. You were expecting to see an aggressive answer, and you got a perfectly reasonable answer to an inane question, and that which that you deemed to be as aggressive as you expected?

I'm thinking back to that El Nino idiot. Remember him? That Scouse git who took offence and started on me over a post that wasn't even directed at him - a post directed at glory hunting Liverscum fans who live anywhere but Merseyside. Point here is that according to El Nino, he'd received several messages of support, with some very nasty sh*t written about me. At the time I dismissed this is the ranting of an irate Scouse git. But now I'm beginning to wonder. And if you were one of these hypothetical w**kers who wrote to support the twat, then why not come right out and say so.

[Killbill]

I agree with those who think that we don't need much more. If Drogba and Lampard had left then something needed to be done. However, at the moment once you take away those three or four “untouchablesâ€, for want of a better word, like Kaka at Milan, Messi at Barca, Ronaldo at Man U, there isn’t much out there that would be an improvement on our first eleven.

[byatt]

Personally i don't think we need strengthening an awful lot if at all, we went so close last season with pretty much the same squad and a clueless "manager" in charge... we've managed to bring in a top-notch right-back in Bosingwa and i think that will only cease to bring the best out of Paulo Ferreira... we now have Deco which i think adds to a tasty competition for places in the middle of the park between Lampsy, Ballack, Essien, Deco and John Obi Mikel... I expect better from Nico this season aswell if he gets played through the middle, and again there's tasty competition for places up-front now we've promoted di Santo to the first-team... and don't forget we have some really promising youngsters waiting to take a chance if they're given it.

The future at Chelsea Football Club is already bright enough without splashing the cash like we've done in previous seasons

Lofty, i have no idea what you are talking about...

I've been on this forum a looooong time, and have no agenda to hide. You're making alot of ridiculous suggestions.

All i'm saying, is that you tend to come across as a bit, erm, volatile at times... Maybe that is'nt your intention, but you do, and it's unecessary, that's all.

For example;

Generally? I'm a Chelsea fan, have been for over 40 years. What the f**k do you think I think of Chelsea FC?

By me saying ''Okay, this is the sort of answer i was expecting to see'', i meant it in terms of sticking to the thread topic, as opposed to another rant about Liverpool. (Before you ask again, no, not anothe hidden agenda).

I'm not interested in squabbling.

[Lofty]

Neither am I. But look at these two statements together:

Okay, this is the sort of answer i was expecting to see. Again, quite aggressive...

Reads like you're expecting an "aggressive" reaction. I disagree with your opinion of this "aggressiveness" and begin to wonder where you're coming from. Ok. I'll tell you something. I registered here the same week my father died. His funeral (April 4th) was actually the day we played Valencia. I'm not putting this up as an excuse, but I am telling you why around that time, I was more sensitive than usual. And then that scumbag lowlife RedRob zooms in on me, bombarding me with mickey mouse posts about "hounding him" and God knows what other garbage, and the next thing you know, people see me as this rabid nutcase. I get idiots like Moos picking on me, then there was El Nino - well people like that, f**k the lot of them.

It's also true that I come from a different era of football supporters - one of the most sickening things I've ever seen was some kid buyin a red and Blue Chelsea | Liverscum scarf in Fulham Road. Poor kid must be mentally scarred - his father needs locking up.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, mate. That's hard enough for anyone to take.

I'm not picking on anyone, just telling it how i see it.

I just think you could afford to be a little more...passive at times, and maybe try not to turn everything into some sort of anti Liverpool arguement. Having said that, you can post what you like i guess? I just prefer to talk about all things Chels', and i'm sure you must have an abundance of experiences and knowledge of Chelsea to share, rather than talk about them? Loft, i'm always interested to read anyone else's past anicdotes stretching back over the decades, as i've only supported the Blues for about the last 15 years! (I'm 25 now). I've not been through the 'dark' days, so it's all fascinating to me.

I understand that you come from a different era, which is fine, and to level with you, i find the bit about the scarf equally as horrible to think about...
