I am aware of this, but it'd be lovely to keep it, or even just a part of it in the club's future and not just its history. I'm not sure how and I'm not sure what... Maybe some grafiti?

Is needed for us to move forward since, as it now seems, the Brdige cannot be developed further. 60k is the bare minimum that will allow us to compete, given the FFP rules and the continued increased revenue of United, City and Arsenal; not to mention the Barcas, Reals etc.

I posted on another thread that Gourlay used the euphoria of the CL semi win to sneak in a comment about moving from The Bridge.

To be fair to the club I think they are giving the fans the best heads up they can on this. They seemed to have looked at every angle of trying to stay at The Bridge, if they get the site then it is just a matter of time.

I have mixed emotions, I am gutted as the next fan to be leaving Stamford Bridge and dread to think what will happen to it.. But there could be worse sites and something has to give as much as I hate it.... To me it is like moving from your home to get a bigger and better house, you going to miss your memories and friendly neighbors but time moves on

My Late Brother has a plaque in the Shed end I would hope they would bring those plaques to any future new ground (getting ahead of myself I know)

:laugh2: Maybe name the development after Ossie, or the streets after Chelsea legends. I would love to buy a flat on Grodas lane.

 
I'm curious as to whether the level reluctance to leave the Bridge is in any way linked to the era you have attended most games. As someone who has been an occasional visitor post Shed and greyhound track I find it less traumatic because so much of what was dear to me has already gone or changed beyond all recognition.

Have to admit that as someone who isn't a Londoner, the significance of the distance between SW6 and Battersea is possibly lost. By the time I've got from Stockport to southwest London, the distance doesn't make much odds to me.

Plus, I always thought Wandsworth was a Chelsea supporters stronghold. Is that correct?

The 15000 one big end sounds tasty..yes there is a fear and sadness of losing this site STAMFORD BRIDGE..I remember how sad it was when the old northstand came down..When the Great Shed came down.Even when the old wooden east stand came down..They were all soul ripping times..We did adapt eventually, even tho we may not have liked what replaced our younghood second home...IF we do move we ll all pull together, whether we like the NEW stadium or not , and make it a place of awe for any oppos that turn up..To us it will be our HOME..A home we will give 100% support to for the sake of our team..We will find and defend our new pubs...We will walk thru OSSIE DRIVE to get to COOKES CORNER before walking up HUTCHINSON WAY to get to the new 15000 shed end that will outnoise anyone.....(and) we can always chuck spuds in the THAMES

Yes. Wandsworth and South-West London in general are huge Chelsea strongholds

I think that is fair comment. As a 21 year old fan from Surrey, have been going to the Bridge since late 90's but as not a Londoner, I cant deny that the distance between SW6 and Battersea doesn't mean as much to me, eventhough I do love the Bridge like I am sure all fans do wherever they travel from.

 
I've only been to Stamford Bridge twice :(

'95 and '96...only just really become old enough to pick a team and stick with it....got dad to take me to a couple of games, then moved back to Australia...can't say I have as strong feelings as some of you guys due to my lack of visits over time...and I don't remember as much of the stadium as I'd like too...but I feel like I know it watching it on tv every other week. I just hope you can get some of the atmosphere packed into the new stadium (assuming we actually do it)

Agree, completely. If this move has to be made this is the best possible way to do it. It might be South of the river, but it could be a stellar location.

This bid also has another plus. If the CPO flatly refuses a move for the club, Roman has just bid for a site surrounding a London architectural icon, the redevelopment of which will be worth a fortune.

Not getting ahead of yourself at all. These are the things that the club is going to have to ensure are taken care of. The rememberance plaques in the Shed lower, Ossies ashes and statue will obviously have to be taken care of. Also I would like to see the 'Matthew Harding Stand' sign incorporated some way at our new digs.

To be honest, thinking about what we'd want to salvage excites me quite a bit - I'm sure we've all got out quirky favourite things about the ground - what would you want saved?

 
As much as I love the Bridge and would hate to move to a shiny characterless bowl, this a very exciting proposal. The big stand, the towers staying in tact and the four separate stands. I can only hope it comes off.

Looking at this pic it wouldn't be too daunting a task to build a dedicated train station, it's on the main line out of Victoria and would be less than a 5 minute journey. Coupled with the Northern Line extension from Kennington I can't imagine there'd be too many transport problems.

 
Obviously they know what they're doing, but I've always thought that site wouldn't be big enough for a football stadium if they were to keep the towers in tact. Not sure where the ground would be situated on that photo. Up to the left a bit?

Our Late family friend is also there, I really don't think the club would chuck them away, they'd be moved to the new place.

I don't know what to think, I'm a bit... numb.

Naming rights is a concern. I swear if it's Sports Direct Arena or Burgar King Arena I would cry. It would be interesting if that's something the CPO bring up.
