We lacked that bit of zip and composure you need. The first half was an even contest and Willian's work for the goal was excellent. Maybe Liverpool took a bit out of the team but it's not an excuse as I know Atletico also played on Sunday.

They were a bit like us in that famous QF second leg in 2004, hungrier, tighter.

I'm still very very sad about this loss. And I cried yesterday seeing Terry cry. :'(

JT may well have been upset.  It was probably his last chance to play in a CL final.  Having said that, he could have helped himself a bit by clearing the f**king ball for the first goal.

Ivanovic was even more distraught than JT.  He stood in a catatonic state on the halfway line after the game and was the last person off the pitch.  He was consoled by a number of Chelsea and Atleti players but it made no difference.

As far as the match goes, I thought I would be ok about it.  Atleti are a very good team and we weren't shafted by the referee.  But actually, I feel terrible about it.  The game was there for us when we scored and we practically gifted them a way back in to the match.  I wouldn't have minded if they'd piled on the pressure and scored a couple of good goals.  But the first goal was some of the worst defending I've seen for a long time and Eto'o's challenge for the penalty was verging on the criminal.  He had no need to make it at all.  Pure stupidity.

I thought Eden was the main perpetrator for the first goal, you just cannot switch off like he did in such a massive game, it really was poor.

True he didn't pick up his man but the cross was a mish*t and JT, Ashley and Ivan(?) should all have cleared it before it reached their man.  Ash was almost certainly not expecting JT to miss it completely.

Yeah the more it does sink in the more it begins to hurt.

As it has been pointed out today though the little bit of luck that aided us in 2012 was just not there last night. Think of Barca hitting the post late on at the Brdige, Messi hitting the bar with his pen, Bayern missing many good chances, finally scoring, switching off perfectly at a corner for the Drog, Robben having his pen saved after another poor challenge from a striker in our own box.

This time the wood work did not bounce in our favor after the 5th minute, this time our keeper was not the hero. This time was Atletico that got the little bits of needed luck. Was just their time, and maybe it also will be in Lisbon.

For a change we were beaten by the better team. From 1 to 11 they outplayed, out thought and gave everything as a team to conquer. In fact it was a performance likened to the great Jose Mourinho teams of the past at Inter, his first spell at Chelsea and Porto. We have seen glimses of this with our current team - against Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and PSG but not at the level we saw from Athletico last night. The best two teams in Europe are rightly in the Final and we must look forward to the changes required to put us in that category.
