That's a good point. This could easily be spun as "Chelsea/Rangers fans petition to silence prominent anti-racism campaigner Collymore". The fact that gobsh*tes like him tend to do more harm than good is immaterial. As much as I think that Collymore is an inexcusably stupid, arrogant fool who has no business in punditry, and as much as I would like to see him gone from football, I don't think this is a good idea.
It will be perceived as us trying to shut out people who have negative things to say about us, and in light of recent events, shunning someone who has been so vocal about racism in football (however misguidedly) will only serve to stoke the fire.
That's the beauty of free speech - everyone has the right to talk complete and utter nonsense, and we in turn have the right to call them idiots for doing so.
Exactly what it is, Collymore is not going to do any good at all, whatever he is suggesting sounds like a conspiracy theory of Chelsea and Rangers supporting racism and working together blah blah blah. That's a good point. This could easily be spun as "Chelsea/Rangers fans petition to silence prominent anti-racism campaigner Collymore". The fact that gobsh*tes like him tend to do more harm than good is immaterial.
That is true, but at the same time you have the freedom and the logistics to point that out to him and also to point out how much of an imbecilic hypocrite he is for tarring all Chelsea/Rangers fans with the same brush when any anti-racism philosophy is founded on not making untrue and vindictive generalisations. You're right PK13 unless the free speech is untrue (slander libel), or incites hatred. In essence Stan the man has said I am in sympathy with the NF and so forth which I object to.
Exactly, the last thing we want to do is paint him as a silenced hero or a martyr for the cause. Collymore is one of the biggest arseholes in football, he'll defeat his own cause as soon as he speaks out loud as everyone will recognise him as a complete idiot (as most people already do) and in this case quite possibly a liar. That's a good point. I think that is giving him too much credit. the vast majority of sane people will (hopefully) appreciate the fact that he is nothing more than an attention seeking gobsh*te.That is true, but at the same time you have the freedom and the logistics to point that out to him and also to point out how much of an imbecilic hypocrite he is for tarring all Chelsea/Rangers fans with the same brush when any anti-racism philosophy is founded on not making untrue and vindictive generalisations.

It reminds me of that Bertrand Russell quote:
"The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt."
That's very true. I wasn't familiar with that quote but Bukowski said something very similar. I think it's safe to say that Russell got there first though:It reminds me of that Bertrand Russell quote:

Pigeon-holing and making sweeping judgements about a whole group of people... isn't that really the same principle as racism?I'm really confused about him saying all Chelsea fans are racist, does that include our black fans?
It's certainly a form of racism, or at least xenophobia. The fact us this idiot does more harm than good in the fight against racism. He trolls Twitter writing outrageous things to draw in the loons who abuse him, he retweets the abuse, creates a storm and rides the waves.Pigeon-holing and making sweeping judgements about a whole group of people... isn't that really the same principle as racism?
