Did we make a mistake in not signing Neymar?

I wouldnt say it was a mistake because we tried and he turned up down. We didnt pull the plug so not a mistake.

From what i read it, Neymar was our number 1 target and when he turned us down we moved on to Torres. So looking back was that a mistake? Oh hell YES!
Exactly. It's like asking a girl to marry you, she turns you down, and then a year later you think "was it a mistake not to marry her"?

We wanted Neymar and were close to signing him, but in the end he said no. Can't blame the club for trying, but the likes of Real and Barca will always be more prestigious destinations for players from South America and quite a few European countries.

I fully expect Hazard to eventually move on to one of the La Liga giants in a few years (hopefully, not for a while).

If we would have bought him we would never have signed Hazard, and I wouldn't swap Hazard for anyone

Great player though and will only get better

Im not so sure. He will have to improve a bit more before they pay what we could be charging for him.

I don't know if you can class being Brazil's all time 6th highest goalscorer at 22 as being overrated.
Klose is the the joint top World Cup scorer of all time but he's not exactly been a great player. Neymar has struggled at club level and for me to be truly great you have to prove yourself at both.

People said the same thing about Oscar and he's been fine.
Neymar is a different style of player for one and he's much more slight than Oscar. Nit to mention he spends a lot of time on his arse.

Ronaldo is the best player in the world would gave him a heartbeat and he's definitely been a better player than Messi for me

The only doubt i would have about swapping Ronaldo for Hazard is the age. Ronaldo is by far a better play but is on the down side now of his playing days where as Hazard still have some time left to go.

Agree there on age

I wouldn't swap Hazard for anyone right now he's still young and for he is looking likely to be the next big star in England

Yeah Ronaldo is 29/30 but then again I don't think theres another footballer who's looked after their body and health like Ronaldo has done.

He will be a sensational player for another 2/3 years at least IMO.

Hazard is at the age now he needs to start playing to a level that's pretty high most weeks..Ronaldo and Messi done it at that age and if Hazard wan't to be spoken about in the same breath as these guys that's his next step.

The talent is there, the manager is there...eveything is in place.

I dont think Hazard will ever get near Messi or Ronaldo in terms of ability, consistency etc.

Kind of pulling to that side of it too Zola.

He will be a fantastic player but I don't think he will ever reach those heights...no shame in it though...I mean only a handful ever have.

Struggled at club level? He scored 151 goals in 266 games. He had a decent start to la Liga, but hasn't been as impressive since the turn of the year. He still scored 15 in 41 all from open play in his first season in Europe. Hazard scored 17 in 49 last including pens.

I'm not sure what else you would expect from him.

Agree with that.

Need to remember this was a 21 year old Kid who had never played outside of Brazil. He was never going to be amazing from the get go…look at guys like Rivaldo, Ronaldinho ect who took time to settle in.

You don’t score as many goals at 22 for Brazil if you are not a special player.

Klose is a fantastic goal scorer, I've always liked him personally.

And for Neymar we're not talking about just World Cup finals here, he's consistently delivered for Brazil and to be their 6th highest goalscorer at 22, when you think of the quality of players they regularly produce, is phenomenal.

You can't say he's struggled at club level just yet. For Santos he had more than 50 goals in a little over 100 appearances.

In his first year at Barca, in a league, new country, speaking a different language etc he still managed 19 goals in all competitions in about 40 appearances.

I'm not saying he was brilliant but it wasn't a bad showing all things considered.
