Dominic Solanke

Solanke has agreed a deal with Liverpool. Better than him going to Celtic, at least we get about £8mil for him now.

Good. The rest of our yoof should do the same and sign for other clubs. We don't play kids here.

Just seen he'll be playing for their U-23 team and featuring in cup matches for the murderers. Is that really much better than what he'd get if he'd signed a contract at Chelsea last year? I think he must know Tammy is ahead of him and he had no chance here.

I would say so, yes. Klopp is also more likely to play him in the league.

Good move for Solanke and wish him all the best, though I may not agree with his decision if he feels he's doing what's best for his career then good luck to him. Sadly by opting to sign for a rival it's unlikely we'll welcome him back with open arms if/when he plays at the Bridge.

As a way to show our appreciation for Solanke my hope is we'll sign Jann-Fiete Arp and fast track him into the first team.

Another example of our talent going elsewhere and blossom....shame it can't happen here more often....kids have very little chance of making the first team on a regular basis..

When has an academy player come back to haunt us? The closest has been Jack Cork.

Solanke certainly won't buck that trend, he's crap.

Borini?

While I agree it's a shame we don't play the kids the club has an impeccable record of making the right decisions without compromising the first team's performance. Personally my only criticism of the academy isn't that we don't play the kids, but that we're producing too many lower table PL/Championship quality kids capable of helping us compete for a top 4 place. Hopefully Tammy, Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour, Dujon Sterling and Callum Hudson-Odoi will break the mould.

Borini is sh*t.

Bit to soon to say he'll blossom when he hasn't even kicked a ball or officially signed for them yet...

He has scored 3 goals from open play in 30 games in a league that is known for crap defending and even worse goalkeeping. He's not going to amount to anything at Liverpool and will be in League one within two years.

I'd be shocked if this came back to haunt us. I can understand him wanting to leave, not sure why he didn't decide to go to a club where he would be in with a chance of starting regularly. He is in the same boat at Liverpool imo. They also have youth players with high potential, so I don't see him pushing into the 1st team barring a spate of injuries.

good luck to him, I think it will turn out more frank nouble than lukaku.

eerrr did I say he would come back an haunt us?  Totally agree with the Special One's comments though.

I hear/read 3mil
It terms of value I suspect there is not a lot different between what we will get for Solanke and what we had to pay City for Sturbridge.

Liverpool won't want to pay much at all but I suspect that the initial fee will be around £3-£3.5 million but there almost certainly will be add ons based on first team appearances probably £500 k after 10,20,30 &. 40 games. add another chunk should he make a full international appearance and indeed a % of any subsequent transfer fee. In the case of Sturbridge we finally paid £8.5 million.

I suspect Liverpool are spinning the sum that the compensation panel will set but as we know from when they signed Danny Ings they ended up paying far more than they had hoped and whilst the numbers were different the terms of the award was very similar to the Sturbridge ruling

One thing intrigues me is if the club gave Solanke permission to speak to Liverpool.

When a club wants to retain a player they have to within 7 days of the clubs last competitive match confirm in writing that they want to keep  the player and on what terms. I have never know a club issue these letters earlier than the last match. Until DS had that letter he can not speak to any other club unless his club agree to him holding discussions.

The next danny ings at best...has as much chance of making it at Liverpool as he did with us..in other words, nada...some headlines say he's spurned us, would argue it's the other way around...we wouldn't accede to his demands and are now putting our faith in Abraham, cos he's a far better player and has more of a realistic chance of making it

not sure why some of you sound so bitter about this to be honest.

you can question his attitude but at the end of the day he's had to make a decision for his own career.

the club gets a decent(ish) fee for him which will only increase depending if he ends up being a good player later on, whilst not really losing out too much when you consider how good tammy is going now, with ugbo coming in after him as well.

as for churning out too many championship and lower prem level players....my nephew was in the academy a few years ago and i remember asking him what his first day was like as a scholar and he told me neil bath sat all the new first years down and gave them a bit of a speech about how the academy isn't really just an academy and that it's an institution.

the main point was that for these players, chelsea as an institution intends to give them the best possible chance of becoming a pro footballer whether this be at chelsea or somewhere else, that is the aim of the academy. it's about forging a pathway to professionalism for young prospects. as fans obviously our only agenda is for those players to graduate into chelsea first teamers but you have to remember our expectations as fans and the expectations of the clubs and the individual are different. even when graduates don't go on to have careers here but do elsewhere the academy takes great pride in it
