Estêvão

I do see both sides of the argument.

There is no doubt that Estevao is a talent and 100% should have got minutes last night. But he is getting over a bad injury and I think Alonso does question his work ethic as well. Estevao has had moments in his time with us, but lets not pretend he is prime Hazard.

I could understand him not being in the side when we were playing well and getting results and the front 3 and even Neto looked undroppable. But our form and results have dipped, last night we had no Palmer and Pedro so we were crying out for a bit of what Estevao could provide, so it's difficult to understand why he wasn't given ANY minutes - even more so with penalties looming.

Frustrating that we let Ngumoha join Liverpool, when at times last night, he looked one of the best players on the pitch, whilst we have given minutes to the likes of Sancho. Garnacho, Mudryk, Gittens...............he looks better than all of them. Let's just hope we don't do the same with Estevao.
Good post, although to be clear we didn't let Ngumoha join Liverpool. We couldn't stop it and it's the price you pay for a sh*t recruitment and team management policy. We are not 5otally out of the woods from doing pretty much the same with Acheampong. We continue with the French twat Gusto whilst farming Antwi out to Strasbourg. Antwi, Acheampong, Derry, Mhueka, all better than senior players clogging up their positions.

Meaningless given they play at opposite ends of the pitch.
Not meaningless at all actually. Nobody is saying like for like replacements. When he is selecting weak, sh*t players constantly, like Gusto and Fofana, and is failing to select a formation and style that utilises the better and more sought after talents like Estevao then it will piss fans off and will raise questions from the press.

Better?

Yeah, what I meant with Ngumoha, is that we made the situation happen. By not giving any of our youngsters confidence that we have faith in them and there is a route into the team, they look elsewhere. If we don't stop signing sh*t players who then block the way for youngsters and yet are no better, this is going to keep happening.

That said, with the money Liverpool have spent recently, Ngumoha might have difficulty getting a lot of minutes and again need to look elsewhere.

He's playing a lot for a player his age, to be honest. They trust his talent and are nurturing him well.

Us? Instead of nurturing Tyrique George, we spend £100m on Garnacho and Gittens. One is rotting away at Villa, and the other is MIA.

Also, isn't Estevao playing regularly for Brazil?

That'll be the worm in his head - he's good enough for Brazil but not good enough for Chelsea ffs!

Sad to say but it's better he leaves and goes somewhere they can develop him.

What really pisses me off is the clowns we play instead of him - ridiculous.

Our match day fans have the responsibility to get on Alonso game after game calling for Estevao. It started at Anfield, it needs to continue.

I really believe Estevao improves all of the other 19 PL sides and starts for them, yet Alonso comes out with BS about his physicality. Does he not know the Brazilian league is brutally physical? Have people forgotten how the 3 sides we faced just over a year ago from Brazil match us, and one out did us in the group, physically?

This is not about estevao but PL is the most physical league in the world because the tempo of game is super fast and the player are fast and strong.

“But here, I would say it’s more physical in terms of the running you have to do. The games are end-to-end. I find it is less tactical than it is in Ligue 1.

“It’s a lot of running. That’s why in my first few matches, I’ve been getting cramps. It’s all because the intensity is so high."

This is what Barcola said.

But in truth he has been outmuscled here and has been a peripheral figure. I agree that Alonso is managing the boy poorly and if we don't play him Estevao will leave and blow up somewhere else. I also agree that not turning to him when we are totally impotent in matches like Liverpool and Tottenham is inexcusable.

But, there is still no getting away from the fact that the massive amount of hype that this lad gets is over virtually nothing since he has been here. A couple of good cameos and crucial goals but very little to force his way in. He needs a run in a team that is functioning well around him. Ours isn't at the moment and the only players thus far that have made us function well have been in his position.

I think that he has beefed up since he has been here but, as is often the case, that has taken an edge off his pace and guile. He dies need a run to now acclimatise to the pace and strength of the league and to regain confidence. He also needs to improve his teamwork when he does get on.

A point well made by one poster this week, regarding the physicality is that if he is not strong enough to play against Tsimikas and some academy kid, rhenium when is Alonso going to give him a go?

Noni Madueke plays regularly for England.

Estevao is one of those rare beasts. A "get you out of your seat" player. Think Pat Nevin, think Charlie Cooke. He can see things and do things most players can't. He brings excitement and expectation everytime he gets on the ball. Palmer is the only other player we have like that, but even Palmer isn't as direct as Estevao. In that respect Stevie reminds me most of Sterling. Not the sh*te, way past his sell-by-date Sterling we had, but the young, exciting Sterling at QPR and Liverpool who just burnt past opponents for fun with pace and skill.

Estevao needs to be playing more minutes. Simple as. Personally I disagree about the physicality argument. To me he looks stronger than both Gusto and Neto on the ball. The point about his off the ball defending has some merit I think. But isn't that Alonso's job to work with him on that? I know one thing for sure he can't improve that side of his game if he is left sitting on the bench every week.

Nice and lively today.

He'll be wondering how he didn't score today.

Better defensively as well - he'll grow from this season.

Really good performance, all over from him. Just makes things happen - unlucky not to have a goal today.
Nice embrace from Alonso after his second half disallowed goal and also when substituted. Hopefully more minutes ahead
