Such a shame, I was very hopeful of him making it into our 1st team squad. Would be interesting why to see why the negotiations broke down, I hope it isnt another agent f**king up a young promising career with ridiculous promises.
Given the crap his agent was coming out with - all that bo**ocks about how shamefully the club treated Borini - that wouldn't surprise me at all.

Nor would I, they really are shameless leaches who are helping take the game down the sh*tter.

Real shame. He would have given us a totally different option next season.

It's a loss and I fully expect him to make it in the game.

IF we retain either or both of Drogba & Anelka for yet another season then I agree, he has made the right decision to move away from SB to get to play regular football. He deserves it.

A shame..Josh aside we don't seem to have any trust at all in our young players

To be fair, we did freeze him out and give him no chances to break into the team (havent read article yet so no idea what agent claimed). Should of loaned him out sooner just to keep him happy for nothing more than to collect the whole fee and not just some compensation.

He will score bags of goals for some other club, seems like a natural predator on the attack.

Kalou and Sturridge will be relieved they dont need to look over their shoulders now.

I doubt he will stay in England, I bet he will end up back in Serie A.
In almost every interview he has given he has stated his interest to stay in England and having seen him perform for Swansea you can safely asssume that he will find a club in England.

Thats two bright talents, of whom we had pretty high hopes, in two seasons. First Stoch and then Borini. This will set a bad example to others in our system. The 'either you are a rock star or you are out' mentality the club is taking will not help. A quick look at United and see how they have given players like Gibson (infinitely less talented than Borini and Stoch) etc time on the pitch and time to establish themselves. Some players bloom late, like Fletcher, and you really have to play your cards in such a way that you get the best bargain out of the deal. Now Gibson, wherever he goes, will definitely command a fee of around 5-6 million while we lose Borini who is younger and more talented for peanuts.

The policy needs some revamp and soon.

It won't though, because we are still stuck in the mentality of win or you're sacked with managers. So they are not going to risk any young players when they know a few defeats here and there and they are out of a job.

Exactly right.

This is what it always comes back to. The apparant club mentality of MUST have success MUST win Champions League etc and the pressure that puts on anyone who takes on the managers role.

We ended up with nothing this season and the club really hasn't moved on at all so it was a real waste in terms of blooding younger players (bar Josh to some extent). So having a really decent youth eam and winning the Youth Cup last season could end up counting for very little.

I hope this changes and maybe with the new financial rulings (which I haven't got time to look into what's involved) it may have to but somehow I doubt anything will change.

Borini is a good player but not good enough to make our first team.

He deserves a midtable club where he will get the opportunity to play every week.

Not yet maybe, but I think he could be.

The situation reminds me a little of Rossi at man Utd. Wasn't ready for their first team so left for Parma I think it was and did really well. I think Borini will come good in a year or so and we'll regret it. Not saying he's going to be a world beater or anything, but I think he'll certainly be a good player.

Would really like to know the details of the deal Chelsea offered Borini, makes you wonder what his agent has been saying. To be fair however,I guess once you've played first team football in front of a crowd, going back to the stiffs must be a letdown.

However, getting back to the first point, whats wrong with another year's lone deal?.It sounds if Swansea/Borini/his agent come out the winners here, they get a top young talent on the cheap, with a massive potential sell on profit, while we do all the development.

Talk about what go's around, comes around, I guess we now know how Man City fans feel when they lost studge to us.

I don't want our youth academy to become a feeder system for lesser clubs who could end up selling on potential superstars to our rivals for massive profits. However I do have some trust in our scouts to identify what we need. If his demands (via his agent or otherwise) were unreasonable then he's got to go. It is a shame though as he could end up becoming a prospect.

Talking of selling players on, isnt that the wau an acadamy will be run? Best case is it funds itself with the sale of good players not really good enough for our first squad (ie stoch, borini etc ) while trying to create anexvellent player good enough to step up. If we get one of those players a season then job done, more than one is a bonus. I expecy we will see more and more of oyr ex youth players in prem squads in years to come, as there are of ex man utd and arsenal players etc.

Completely forgot about Stoch. I had very high hopes for that lad, after he played an incredibly vital role in our last 7 minute come back against Stoke under Scolari at the Bridge. I remember him coming on and being a fantastic outlet on the wing. Such a shame.

Also forgot Diarra who would probably walk into our team right now. Pompey made a hefty profit on him. Too bad it wasnt us.

Double edged sword having these highly talented youngsters in a system already stuffed with superstars. The best way is to find the right balance like United have done.

And it all starts with giving job security to the manager (provided the guy is the right person to take these kind of decisions).
