AVB has said Gareth Bale will not be involved in their first three games of the season, 2 league matches and Europa League fixture.

Apparently isn't fit enough but surely the Madrid move is still on?
I don't think bale will be involved in the first 38 games of the season. It's only a matter of time.......

Well goals is the most important thing in the game, and I know which of the 3 (Dinho, Messi, CR7) i'd pick last based upon the number of goals the team would score with one of them on the field.
Sorry, but i think thats a very simplistic way of of looking at things

You cant tell me Ibrahimovic is/was a better player than Zidane, even though he totally eclipses him when looking at numbers

You can't compare a striker to a midfielder in terms of numbers though.

So why are we comparing Ronaldinho, who had eto'o as the target man, to Messi, who was in fact the target man?

Regarding Bale I think if he were to sign Ronaldo would be used as a centre forward Bale on the right Isco on the left and Ozil centrally in a 4-2-3-1 in theory an amazing prospect of pure attacking indulgence. With Casemiro Illaramendi Alonso and Khedira behind they have such a good lineup its scary. Even if they don't get Bale they have Di Maria or could play a Christmas tree formation with Isco and Ozil behind Ronaldo with Khedira Alonso/Illaramendi and Casemiro as a midfield 3. Be very good to watch either way.

I've always thought that Ronaldo looks poorer when playing that high up the field, he's at his best when he can pick the ball up from deep and just run at defenses.

Look at the second goal he scored against us, that run from deep into the box arriving late, he probably couldn't do that if playing as a centre forward.

The problem they have if they buy Bale though is

strikers: Benzema. AMs/Wingers: Ronaldo Ozil Isco Bale De Maria Modric

Be very interesting to see what they end up doing and how they resolve the problem

Doesn't sound like a bad problem to have...

Modric is a CM though

Regardless of how it sounds, it still is

You cant keep all of them content. Unless Carlo moves Ronaldo to CF, one of those world AMs will be pushing for a transfer

Ronaldinho can make your jaw drop, but Messi wins games and that is undeniable, i'm unsure how anyone can make the argument that Ronaldinho in his prime contributes more to the success of a team than Messi would when it's so obvious that his own team got rid of him to make room for Messi when he was only 18 years old.

One will take the spectacular route which may or may not result in a goal for his team, the other is the epitome of efficiency and ruthlessness.

And if you want a like for like comparison, CR7 and Ronaldinho play in the same position. One is the most complete footballer that has ever existed, the other is one of the best showmen of all time.

I couldn't believe Moyes's comments.  Surely accusing the league of fixing the fixture list warrants some disciplinary action?
I'm sure FA Vice-Chairman David Gill will be quick to react and propose an appropriate punitive measure...

Wait.

IMO, hes the best player ever. His time at the top may be on the shorter side, but while he was there he was the best football player ive ever seen
Easy there, mate. Best you've ever seen or best in his generation is one thing, but best ever is surely one too far.

It's always the same when comparing statistics for Messi/Ronaldo and the rest. There has been a tailing off in the overall quality and competitiveness of La Liga from around 2005 onwards. As Valencia and Deportivo's finances went tits up, the likes of Sevilla and Villarreal gradually become less able to compete, and above all the concentration of TV money in the hands of the big two means the playing field changed markedly within the space of a few seasons. Ronaldinho never really profited from that in the same way that Messi and Ronaldo did.

I'd consider him a more entertaining and skillful footballer, but as a goalscorer he's not on the same level as Messi or Ronaldo.
You've either never watched Ronaldinho before or you've fallen into the modern trap of thinking that the best goalscorers are the best players. Surely you don't really think Cristiano Ronaldo was a better passer, a more creative presence than Ronaldinho? A more ruthless and productive free-roaming goalscorer yes, but as a creator? That aspect of a player's game is just as important and even moreso than goalscoring.

I can't help but laugh if you're referring to Ronaldo here...

Ronaldo is more like Puskas than, say, Pele or Messi - they all score a bucketload of goals but the latter two are a class above in terms of passing, vision and all-round contribution. Comparing him to someone like Maradona, Beckenbauer, Di Stefano or Cruyff who had complete control of the game or Pelé and Messi who could score at the same level while influencing the build-up play far more, he very clearly lags behind. Ronaldo for all his technical and physical "perfection" lacks the capacity to influence games in the way the very best can. His influence is limited to affecting the scoreline directly. All these players could do that when required but controlling the game is every bit as important and they all did it. Well, Messi hasn't, but he's shown the capacity to in flashes. Ronaldo clearly never had that in him which is why in my mind it's just mental to grace him the most complete footballer to ever exist.

You can talk about scoring goals as much as you want but until he shows he can create them at the highest level he's simply nowhere near the very best of all time.

Personally I think Messi and Ronaldo have surpassed Ronaldinho, their level of consistency can only be matched by the very best.

C'mon Stoke! I'd love it if they get one over the Scousers.
Completely agreed.

EDIT: And Stoke puts one off the crossbar! So close...

Impressed by Liverpool's play in the final third and their pressing.
