Joško Gvardiol

He can't even get a game at Brighton at the moment.
He has been recently and in the last game it was widely agreed by BHA fans he was their best player by a distance (absolutely carried Lewis Dunk).

It's somewhat understandable at the start to not want to break up an established partnership so I won't hold that against him. If 18 year old James went to Palace they'd have probably still stuck with Wan Bissaka in the short term, infact even at Wigan he got moved to midfield because they preffered their other RB in that position.

Safe to say he's another player that isn't worth 100m.

Is it just me that thinks he’s nothing special.  Wandering out of position to much for my liking.  Glad we never bothered with Kounde too, similar praise for running about purporting of technical ability.

He's a good talent but anything over 60m would be a scam IMO

Save that big bucks and invest in the midfield, already spent over 100M on 2 CBs this season. If the long term plan is to play back 4, why invest in an overloaded position and ignore the obvious gap?

If it is between us and Real it is probably also between Modric and Kovacic and the opportunity inside the respected squads.

We have Koulubaly, Silva, Fofana, Chalobah and with 3 at back Azpilicueta and Cucurella available for CB roles. So we really do have big names.

Real: Militao, Rudiger, Alaba, Nacho, Vallejo, Odriozola, Lucas Vasquez and Mendy.. couple of them not CB's naturally and not sure if Real ever play 3 at back.

Gvardiol is probably at best in a CB pairing. That would give Real the edge.

I don't buy this narrative of international teammates/friends having a big say in a players next destination.

We'd have both Sancho and Bellingham if it was that easy.

The weird thing is that Kova has been at both clubs and may say some tihngs are better at SB, you never know........

Rather we use the majority of our funds to rebuild the midfield.

Is Gvardiol 100m better than Colwill? I don't think so.

I agree other areas are more important for investment yet often we don't do the obvious.

The other point is how often do you get the chance to sign a world class player and if so should you  delay to fix other positions or go for it?

I'm not saying he is world class as only have seen a few matches at the WC yet the football media world seems to think he is.

Hard to tell. Seen very little of Colwill to be able to base an opinion on. He has never yet played in any major game. Scored an own goal for Huddersfield in a Championship play off final against Nottingham Forest. Gvardiol was getting rinsed by the press becuase he got mugged off (questionable) by Messi for one goal, durign a World Cup QF having arguably been one of the best defenders of the entire tournament.

I don't think it is always fair to compare our kids who may have some potential but are yet to demonstrate that on a regular basis against players who are delivering already at an elite level or have done during their careers. I prreciate the figures being quoted are eye watwering and there has to be a reckoning at some point but it appears that TB has money to spend. I would rather it go here tahn toi Ronaldo, for instance.

I absolutely agree that Colwill needs to be looked at closely and tested to see if he can step up and deliver but i don't see the comparison is mutually exclusive. We have Silva departing soon, Koulibaly who is questionable and a group of younger defenders who will undoubtedly continue to have some injury issues. The value of adding a player of the quality of Gvardiol should not be underestimated in my book

He's a monster no doubt about it. Obviously he's better than Badiashile but I'd rather have Badiashile for 38m than Gvardiol for 90m. There's not a 50m difference between them.

Badiashile for 38m Euros, Gvardiol for 90m ... or Levi Colwill for 0m ?

I wonder if there is 38m difference between Badiashile and Colwill LOL
