Man City Charges

Everyone banging on about how PSR/FFP is only to prevent anyone other than United, Arsenal or Liverpool from wining anything; well how about instead of just waiting for a multi billionaire to buy Bournemouth or Hartlepool or Accrington Stanley, why don’t they just introduce a salary cap of half a million pounds a year for the squad? Then surely everyone can actually chase the dream of winning the league rather than hoping Elon Musk decides to buy their provincial town team? Or would that be too even for the liking of supporters of the top sides other than Utd Arsenal and Liverpool?

It’d bring down ticket prices and Sky subscriptions and give everyone the hope of success. Maybe a huge tombola with all the players names in everyone takes a turn to pick a squad? That’d be much fairer to everyone surely? It’s not like there’s been much sign of the oil states or Russian billionaires choosing to buy Gillingham or Carlisle United instead of large established City clubs like Chelsea or Man City. Let everyone dream!

Fear... the precious "Product" would fly away on Etihad planes and play somewhere else ?

A salary cap of £500,000 for the whole squad would not only cause a mad exodus, but there'd be a flotilla of small boats heading back across the channel for the safety of the European leagues.

Of course, but I thought the priority was that the red cartel can’t dominate and that supporters of all clubs could dream of winning the league? Or have I misunderstood and it’s only a dream for Chelsea, City, Newcastle and Villa supporters because they’re the few clubs billionaires and oil states would be interested in?

I simply don’t buy into this Red Cartel narrative.

Here we have what is a competition with 20 equal members. By equal I mean each has one vote. Some matters have to have a simple majority but others , like the introduction of PSR , had to have a 75% vote in favour.

Underpinning all of this you have UEFA driving the FFP agenda meaning that if the likes of say Bournemouth spent way over the 85% PL allowable squad ratio they effectively would be in a mess when it came to meeting UEFAs lower % .
When it comes to no one can say that owners haven’t spent but spending vast sums guarantees anything.

What our case any apparently cities have likewise shown no matter what is put in place to control spending owners be they rich or poor by comparison will bend , sidestep, ignore regulations.

Some clubs, some supporters are just happy to be in the PL. Even after the breakaway from the EFL some clubs are just very happy to be in the league
Clubs like Palace, like Wigan, like Wimbledon a Coventry in the day the pinnacle for them was when they won the FACup. None of those clubs realistically had a chance of winning the top league.

Well the idea behind allowing funding for stadiums, training facilities, etc is that these are things that will benefit the club long after the owner is gone and also generates it's own revenue. Worse case scenario it can also be sold on.

99% of owners are not Roman or City so this is a moot point.

Clubs with increasing debts are spending more than they generate and those that do make profit blowing it on transfers instead of investing in long term growth. FFP ultimately can't tell people what to do with their money, all it does is sanction them and put a stop to it before it gets much worse.

It only stops other teams becoming another Chelsea in the short term, long term it is entirely possible but most owners are not willing or simply able to play the long game.
On the other hand a wealthy owner can fund a new mega stadium, and not want the cost to be repaid. A gift from his own wealth, giving the club a massive financial advantage..
Financial Fair Play??

so Citeh lawyers took several years to lose 115 to 0
and now they are putting some even better lawyers on the appeal
....that would be quite a comeback in footballing terms.
It's only halftime, big turnaround coming up in the second half, extra time and penalties.

Chelsea never had a realistic chance of winning the PL, .. until Roman's wealth changed everything for us.
In fact, even when Roman started his spending spree, I still didn't believe we would win the title.
Teams like Palace, etc etc might be happy to be in the PL as you say, but they would be absolutely delighted if a wealthy owner were able to propel them to the title.
Jack Walker did it with Blackburn yeas ago...
There's nothing fair about preventing that possibility for anyone else. Those fans are as passionate, loyal and want success as much as the Arsenal's, Liverpool etc etc..

Snobbery and dismissing clubs who you consider undeserving of the sort of success that the wealthy clubs enjoy misses the point about football fans, their hopes, desires, the dreams that all supporters have.
Balancing the books doesn't get anyone fired up, neither does your attitude that they should " know their place and except it .
Football isn't like that.

Wow. Football club owners doing dodgy deals. Who'da thunk it!! It's only been going on for about 150 years! Premier League was all about money anyway but Man Ure and Arsenhole didn't mind. They virtually monopolised cos they could attract, buy and sell top players til Chelsea came along.
Spot on mate 👍 👍 👍

Some clubs are happy to play in the PL and be a, as we say in Spanish, comparsa (translating to a yes-man, maybe?), but others think they should be up there winning titles and are angry when others of the so called comparsa teams do. Arsenal have been complaining about us since before the PSR was in place, cry-babies. City and us have won what we’ve won because our owners have spent the money they deemed necessary to get us up there, spending similarly to Arsenal, Utd or Liverpool. We’ve become a richer team because we won titles because our owners spent money. We were able to do that without PSR constraints and the club was sold without a debt. City had PSR constraints, which meant that they’d never be able to spend the required money to get to the top table unless they circumvented the rules, and City is in a more healthy financial situation than Utd, that’s a given. Speculate to accumulate, in this case is not allowed. So, we end up in the situation in which you can’t spend the required money to get the titles to get the fan base support (it’s sad but it is how it is, or do any in here think that Arsenal got the support because of their shirt colours and not because they won from the 30s onwards a few titles? Basically, City have cheated some financial restrictions that shouldn’t be there in the first place, or at least in that form.

Seeing them stripped off of all titles they won and getting relegated would be a good take for me but it's not the same as calciopolly so that would not be aligned between the crime and punishment.
There're guilty of 114 charges and 35 of them are about refusal to cooperate in investigation. Heart wants them to get severe punishment but at the same time thinking owner's financial clout is also a major part of the club's strength.
Usually, people are sorry when they get caught but for city, it's the opposite. Had they admitted after the leaking then maybe I'll be more sympathetic but they double down and thinking they're so above the rule just because they're crazy rich. At this point, it wouldn't be right if they get away with just 'light punishment'.

By the way, since they're such a force financially, could they just 'bribe' the rest of the clubs with more money? Would you take it?

According to you, Chelsea only have losses of £50 million a season??
That figure is wildly wrong mate. We posted a record loss of around £250 million in one season alone. Asset sales to ourselves mitigated losses in other seasons.
Yeah and then we posted a 128m profit the year after. We are able to generate a lot of revenue if necessary. Something Bournemouth cant do.

Either way, the point of my post wasn't the exact figures, I was giving a rough guide to the problem with wanting Bournemouth to be allowed to spend beyond their means to "compete" with the big clubs.
